Afternoon mower junkie and Barbara. You're always the man, when it comes making and putting antennas together ❤️ out my way no one can read my smoke signals. Haha 😄 just kidding. I stick with my Antron 99 18' antenna, easy for me to tune. Farthest is Florida and the big island Hawaii 🏝 very satisfied with what I accomplished. Awesome video, brother. I heard you hear in N. Nevada, but you didn't hear me. I agree. Don't delete this video. I am trying to find an easy build 3 element beam. 73's
I have been trying to find a square aluminium tube for months here in Thailand. Nothing is easy as far as radio is concerned here. And importing stuff is a total pain.
@garthwilson231 thank you for that advice. My present antenna is a three element quad that I built using a 13 foot × 2 and a half inch pvc pipe, and bamboo spreaders. Last night I had 32 contacts from Northern Thailand into 7 different countries in and around Europe using the qaud. So I guess it must be working OK, I just want to make a four element qaud, and the pvc is too flimsy for that.
You ever point down towards Ga? Next time I'm up at my place in the Royston area I'll jump on 38 LSB and holla a few days in a row and see if I can catch ya on the band.
Isn't it nice when the tuning goes as planned? Nice work John!! UDX15Eleven7/ 2Charlie Tango351 N. Colorado . Guess I could always send some snow balls that way here real soon.... lol
Well I get that it's a dipole with two directors in one direction, but isn't it also kind of a dipole with a reflector behind it in the other direction? 😅 I wouldn't have a clue what the actual gain was in each direction, but I'm sure the backwards must be getting helped by having an almost-reflector not quite the right size or spacing, right behind it.
John I'm a huge fan of yours and I have been trying to build a beam myself but I'm not a fabricator like you man I wish you were here in the blue grass id like to get your help with my setup but maybe someday I'll get it built I had a homebrew 3 element wire quad but wind took it out
That’s awesome John , doesn’t take up a lot of space , not heavy and bulky , etc ,, but very effective !! Great build . 👍 Do you remember how much you paid for that driven element plate on eBay ? That’s the same one I bought a couple years ago , just wondering how much they have went up
@@MowerJunkieCopy that sir and thank you so much for comin' back on me. I sure am gonna try making one of this. Yup, not much F/B ratio but sure works on both ends and don't have to turn the antenna that much. All the best sir and enjoy the Holidays. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Philippines.
I just used MMANA antenna modelling software to simulate your design ,and if you can increase the spacing between the 1st director and 2nd director to 88 inches , your gain and FB will increase a bit ........ I can do screenshots of the model if you like .
Hi John. Well job on the Antenna. Please tell me again the Name of that device i‘ll have a look for it on Internet in Germany. 73 to you and good Connection Nick 13 LA 72 for DX
OK Let me get this straight, 1 element is your center coaxial lead, and the other 5 elements are hooked to the Grounded shield wire is that Right, Cause I want to Build this.
the coax is only connected to the back (driven) element. the shield goes to 1 half, and the center goes to the other half. the other 2 elements are only grounded to the boom.
Just 50 ohm coax. a direct feed Dipole, or Yagi does not need any matching device, it's 50 ohm naturally. the element spacing can adjust the resistance if necessary.
This may be a dumb question, but what is the "151?" I understand it's an identifier for you, but is it a club number or ??? My grandfather was into CB DX in the late 70s/early 80s, and went by "Unit 140." He died quite a while ago, and I never asked him about it.
How come none my constructs ever have that finished look ?my wife asks me why others work i do look so nice and my work is only thrown together ??? Good job keep coming up with the ideas start registering them so your retirement has some FALLBACK LOL
Certainly it should work, but not without sacrificing the Front to back ! If proper element spacing is utilized, and a reflector used, you should see gain out the front of the antenna, somewhere near 6 to 9 DB ( isotropic ), And somewhere less dbd ! Too you will see the much needed rejection off the back of the antenna, ( Reflector side ), when pointed away from a specific station. Don't forget, that once the RF leaves the antenna, it is subject to anything it might encounter, especially in the near field ! But once the RF strikes the ionosphere, all bets are off, and even the polarity of the signal ! But I'm sure you already know this ? I wish you would have rotated the antenna 180 degrees, to witness any changes ! Listening to the contact with Wisconsin, and you saying the antenna was pointing to England ? Maybe you just invented an omnidirectional beam ? 👍😂🤣😂
