I love these older videos! thanks to Mark I've learned alot.. I've built a Ls vtec motor and a B20 vtec motor and I've also rebuilt a Gsr transmission, b16 transmission and Ls transmission because of mark and his videos on transmissions.. I installed new differential bearings, new shift selectors, synchros and countershaft bearings... thanks so much honda street garage ! you guys gave me the confidence to build and rebuild honda motors and transmissions. much love from down south Mississippi 👌🤘🤙👍
I have to get a low milage transmission for my Del Sol. D15B7. How much would it cost to have someone rebuild it instead. Guy at oil change shop told me it would be cheaper... I just don't think so, but don't actually know. And yes I would prefer rebuilt vs. used low mileage.
Thank you for these videos im 19 and going to start my first build on my integra ! Everything that i want to do your able to walk through every step of the way !!! Keep it up !!!!!
Thank you for giving out information like that for free. Giving alot of young fellas, including me, hope to start a low budget build which can turn out good too.
Great video as always. Yesterday I picked up a FRESH B20B with 50k miles from jdm engine world. Cannot wait to start the build and yank the 300k mile y8 out that’s in there. Thanks to your videos I have plenty of information to go off of. This is my first swap I’m gonna be doing and it’s really cool that you do this for the community!! Thanks HSG and keep on keeping on!!
Good vid as usual. Have a little to add about the ARP head bolts though. The benefit of using them in a build is not just for increased cylinder pressure caused by boost or nitrous, they are also reusable and will still hold accurate torque readings. With stock head bolts being torque to yield once you tighten them down once they're no longer good. If your someone who works on their own car and may be taking the head off more than once or even if you make a mistake and the head gasket doesn't seal. Any reason to remove the head is no longer a need to buy new bolts each time when you switch to studs. I guess it's just a preference but I use the ARPs in every build whether it's a daily or track toy. You can get them for like $100 bucks so they're inexpensive future headache relief.
We are Thai people, Thailand. We follow you on youtube. You make many great cars in Thailand. Honda is also strong. Thai people watch your youtube channel a lot. Can make the best car. Vtec turbo line. Recommend MacTec in Thailand.
Oh and another little tip, when reusing a stock Type clutch and flywheel, take a minute to soak the flywheel with some brake kleen and then use some fine 180-220 grit and buff the entire contact surface down by hand. You don't need much power, just keep it wet with brake Kleen and rough the surface up a tiny bit evenly around the entire surface. This will ensure that the clutch continues to wear evenly and grips firmly. (You don't want to have to do a clutch job a month after you put the engine/trans back in the car.)
Nice man. I had an LS/B16a EG in the mid '90s (not many were doing it back then). Took a long +20 year break from cars since then... but recently got back into it.
Less Talk, More Delicious that's rare man. Few people did swaps and hybrids before the Fast and Furious era. To my knowledge some of the first swaps we're ZC swaps in the late 80s early 90s
you can reuse the head bolts with no issues. That clutch is worn thin, but you'll be in there again. Nothing wrong with getting all the life out of it. You didn't expect to have to do this so I think you made a smart move using a b20 bottom end to get your teg going again. Upon reassembly the motor looks good.
HSG, thanks for this video, really appreciate it. My Integra's timing belt took a shit on me last week, and unfortunately I was dealt with some bent valves. Picked up a complete LS head for $100, and was looking up if anyone ever reused the head bolts when re-assembling- so many mixed answers. While yes, ARP is a good upgrade, my shit is absolutely stock lol. If you're reusing head bolts and beating the shit out of a B20V setup, I'm sure I can probably reuse my LS bolts to..well, just daily drive. Thanks for the information and videos, really appreciate it. Hell, you make me want to throw a VTEC head on my block and call it a day too.
I am so glad you did this type of build. If I could give this more likes I would. This is exactly the type of build I want to undertake on my DB8 when the factory GSR calls it quits. My teg isn''t my daily, but I would build it as if it were so that I wouldn't need to worry about any reliability issues. I'm curious how it feels with the B20 and the stock GSR intake manifold. I would more than likely keep it as well for the same reasons you stated. Great job, looking forward to more vids of this car!
I would add skunk2 LMA set instead of arp head studs for this mild application. It’s a few extra steps to get to them. I’m about to the the exact same build Pretty soon and I’m gonna do LMA right away you got lucky with yours
Mark bruh, I pushed 15 psi to my stock internal on a stock rebuild B18B1 with a built head and made 408 whp without any issues. I drove it like that for 22,000 miles and it never missed a beat. That fucker hauled major ass.. Now it has Eagle rods and CP Pistons 81.5mm and a JDM B18C TYPE-R head and I'm hoping to pump it up to 20 psi and put down 500 whp on stock sleeves reliably, but I'd be happy with 450 whp.
love love love the video man!!!! new you had something cooking for this, sorry I doubted you! loved the technical and in depth you went on the vid, this is the HSG I grew to love
no assembly lube anywhere? i hope you crank the engine without spark plugs until you get some oil in the cam journals before you start it for the first time.
i purchased a 98 integra with a GSR motor in it, of course it was blown so i rebuilded the complete motor yes it was a little more money but me being a full auto tech it was not much doing the extra work
@1:37 you mention your drag car is a stock b20b bottom end with a stock gsr top end. But, in the build video you say it's a b16 head.....which one is it? I'd like to build a similar setup for the street, but want to know which one you actually have on it. Thanks for your time, your videos are great keep up the amazing tutorials, and content!!!
Subbed! a little late but love how you do your videos as its more of sharing and teaching and viewers can gain more knowledge as i plan on mine! good job buddy :)
Very nice and informative! Planning a swap for my '95 hatch. I've been curious about b20v, because I want daily, but still want reliability for when I decide to go around a track.
the b20s can take a beating the rod bolt issues come with high rpm they don't like to rev up anything past 9k and your stock rod bolts start to stretch
Hey man your vids help alot. Now my new problem this time, is belt walking. Brand new gates timing belt. The old belt snapped any insight? Timed correctly and everything but it walks im stumped
Mark I doubt you will see this but if you do please help. I see you are using a b20 head gasket. I’m sure oh are aware of the debate on what head gasket to run but seeing as b16/gsr are smaller than 84 this makes sense. My question I have a b18a1 with 81.5mm bore and a gsr cylinder head. Do I need the b18a1 head gasket or the gsr head gasket? Or would you skip both and run a cosmetic swap head gasket? My concern is with the rivets on the b18a1 head interfering with the seal of the block and head. Please if you see this it would mean the world to me to get our opinion since you are so knowledgeable
thanks for this very informative video man... sure it will come in handy when i start my build. Been watch your vids for a while and i love the them. keep doing what you doing 👍.

Hi I have a b20z with a Integra head the issue I have is the some time it surges or it stays at 3000 rpms and it won’t go down what harness you recommend all my set up it’s on a 96 civic obd2
Awesome vid and right on time, bout to da same but LS-V tho which has type r pistons. Got a question, what about the oil pump? Heard it's recommended to use a vtec one, did massive research about it and only difference is a washer inside the oil pump that makes it flow better.
Something I don't really understand, u stated ppl said b20 rod bolts are weak and not made to handle high revs. Why don't just go aftermarket conrods and use ARP rod studs and head studs since you're already taking the whole engine out and building it...
On the gasket surface of the b20 block, there's a little plunger/plug. I'm running a b16 head on my b20 and was told to remove that part for more oil flow. What is that part and would that be the right thing to do? Great videos btw.
I like the build so far you have good pointers but when you were doing the head bolts i thought using too much oil on the end might create a hydro-locking action on the bolt thus no proper torque just a question
Great vid and channel. I’ve been following for a while. I have a question. Why won’t my Ek b20 stay running ? It cranks and starts but once the rpms come down it turns off. I do believe back mid to late 90s I hear of people doing f2d swaps
When the B20 CRV came out in 1997 that helped. by 2000 or so there were some wrecked ones starting to be more common in yards
Facts ppl didn't start doing LSVs untill 2000+
LSVTEC was first built in 1997 by Omniman. Google it, you'll see some Honda-Tech threads pop up.

Lost compression in one cylinder on my type r motor! So going to take the head and throw on a b20 block!!

the dowel pins on the gsr hg are different sizes from the ls. Theoretically, u can use the gsr hg, but u have to enlarge the dowel pin holes.
Derrick Mitchell yes... But instead we used stepdown dowel pins... Check out the the Head prep video just before this one!
Honda Street Garage true, I forgot u used the step down dowel pins.
Nice Guide, i'll save this for my future build!! thank you so Much!
Amazing job....it helps since I'm dropping a B16a2 head on my b20b
doing the same have fun bro
Same here. Scored a type r head a couple weeks ago, just waiting for the machine shop to send my block back
Well done! . Next step , tune then some runs!

Hello just did a lsv. The water pipe on the back is leaking. Whats the difference between ls and b20 because i have a b20 one so will it work or no?
love your video bro is nice how you let people kno what to do thanks
That was fast. What basemap are you using for this, or are you tuning yourself?
me and my brother are gonna lsvtec his ef hatch. hes using a b16 head because he got it on the cheap.
Say I wanna get arp head studs if I got a b18b
with a b16a head would the regular arp head stud kit work
like ls head studs or?
On the gasket surface of the b20 block, there's a little plunger/plug. I'm running a b16 head on my b20 and was told to remove that part for more oil flow. What is that part and would that be the right thing to do?
Great videos btw.
Only thing I'd say , was sometimes the o ring falls out of the cam cap retainer should of made a comment about that in the video
What's up with the old crew and the new sketchy dudes bro? And the old shop...?? What happened
Question sir, what kind of timing belt to use, gsr belt or b20 belt?
Gsr belt water pump neck
Ur A Good Teacher Man...
I have question about the oil line for vtec. What are the details of the size and length of line and what fitting did you use. Rock on.
Get the golden eagle kit for ls vtec no guessing comes all things needed for the set up that's what's on mine
