Thank you for these videos im 19 and going to start my first build on my integra ! Everything that i want to do your able to walk through every step of the way !!! Keep it up !!!!!
I love these older videos! thanks to Mark I've learned alot.. I've built a Ls vtec motor and a B20 vtec motor and I've also rebuilt a Gsr transmission, b16 transmission and Ls transmission because of mark and his videos on transmissions.. I installed new differential bearings, new shift selectors, synchros and countershaft bearings... thanks so much honda street garage ! you guys gave me the confidence to build and rebuild honda motors and transmissions. much love from down south Mississippi 👌🤘🤙👍
I have to get a low milage transmission for my Del Sol. D15B7. How much would it cost to have someone rebuild it instead. Guy at oil change shop told me it would be cheaper... I just don't think so, but don't actually know. And yes I would prefer rebuilt vs. used low mileage.
Thank you for giving out information like that for free. Giving alot of young fellas, including me, hope to start a low budget build which can turn out good too.
Great video as always. Yesterday I picked up a FRESH B20B with 50k miles from jdm engine world. Cannot wait to start the build and yank the 300k mile y8 out that’s in there. Thanks to your videos I have plenty of information to go off of. This is my first swap I’m gonna be doing and it’s really cool that you do this for the community!! Thanks HSG and keep on keeping on!!
We are Thai people, Thailand. We follow you on youtube. You make many great cars in Thailand. Honda is also strong. Thai people watch your youtube channel a lot. Can make the best car. Vtec turbo line. Recommend MacTec in Thailand.
Good vid as usual. Have a little to add about the ARP head bolts though. The benefit of using them in a build is not just for increased cylinder pressure caused by boost or nitrous, they are also reusable and will still hold accurate torque readings. With stock head bolts being torque to yield once you tighten them down once they're no longer good. If your someone who works on their own car and may be taking the head off more than once or even if you make a mistake and the head gasket doesn't seal. Any reason to remove the head is no longer a need to buy new bolts each time when you switch to studs. I guess it's just a preference but I use the ARPs in every build whether it's a daily or track toy. You can get them for like $100 bucks so they're inexpensive future headache relief.
Oh and another little tip, when reusing a stock Type clutch and flywheel, take a minute to soak the flywheel with some brake kleen and then use some fine 180-220 grit and buff the entire contact surface down by hand. You don't need much power, just keep it wet with brake Kleen and rough the surface up a tiny bit evenly around the entire surface. This will ensure that the clutch continues to wear evenly and grips firmly. (You don't want to have to do a clutch job a month after you put the engine/trans back in the car.)
Nice man. I had an LS/B16a EG in the mid '90s (not many were doing it back then). Took a long +20 year break from cars since then... but recently got back into it.
Less Talk, More Delicious that's rare man. Few people did swaps and hybrids before the Fast and Furious era. To my knowledge some of the first swaps we're ZC swaps in the late 80s early 90s
HSG, thanks for this video, really appreciate it. My Integra's timing belt took a shit on me last week, and unfortunately I was dealt with some bent valves. Picked up a complete LS head for $100, and was looking up if anyone ever reused the head bolts when re-assembling- so many mixed answers. While yes, ARP is a good upgrade, my shit is absolutely stock lol. If you're reusing head bolts and beating the shit out of a B20V setup, I'm sure I can probably reuse my LS bolts to..well, just daily drive. Thanks for the information and videos, really appreciate it. Hell, you make me want to throw a VTEC head on my block and call it a day too.
I am so glad you did this type of build. If I could give this more likes I would. This is exactly the type of build I want to undertake on my DB8 when the factory GSR calls it quits. My teg isn''t my daily, but I would build it as if it were so that I wouldn't need to worry about any reliability issues. I'm curious how it feels with the B20 and the stock GSR intake manifold. I would more than likely keep it as well for the same reasons you stated. Great job, looking forward to more vids of this car!
Subbed! a little late but love how you do your videos as its more of sharing and teaching and viewers can gain more knowledge as i plan on mine! good job buddy :)
@1:37 you mention your drag car is a stock b20b bottom end with a stock gsr top end. But, in the build video you say it's a b16 head.....which one is it? I'd like to build a similar setup for the street, but want to know which one you actually have on it. Thanks for your time, your videos are great keep up the amazing tutorials, and content!!!
no assembly lube anywhere? i hope you crank the engine without spark plugs until you get some oil in the cam journals before you start it for the first time.
love love love the video man!!!! new you had something cooking for this, sorry I doubted you! loved the technical and in depth you went on the vid, this is the HSG I grew to love
you can reuse the head bolts with no issues. That clutch is worn thin, but you'll be in there again. Nothing wrong with getting all the life out of it. You didn't expect to have to do this so I think you made a smart move using a b20 bottom end to get your teg going again. Upon reassembly the motor looks good.
Hi I have a b20z with a Integra head the issue I have is the some time it surges or it stays at 3000 rpms and it won’t go down what harness you recommend all my set up it’s on a 96 civic obd2
Great video, two question for you though; You mention around 3:35 you essentially deleted the crank sensor. I understand you can just remove the sensor from the harness, but how does this effect drivability and how do you get around this? My understanding is that the PCM requires the crank sensor to determine engine RPM. And, are the stock Honda head bolts not torque to yield, or stretch bolts? Thanks man!
Hey man your vids help alot. Now my new problem this time, is belt walking. Brand new gates timing belt. The old belt snapped any insight? Timed correctly and everything but it walks im stumped
I would add skunk2 LMA set instead of arp head studs for this mild application. It’s a few extra steps to get to them. I’m about to the the exact same build Pretty soon and I’m gonna do LMA right away you got lucky with yours
Mark bruh, I pushed 15 psi to my stock internal on a stock rebuild B18B1 with a built head and made 408 whp without any issues. I drove it like that for 22,000 miles and it never missed a beat. That fucker hauled major ass.. Now it has Eagle rods and CP Pistons 81.5mm and a JDM B18C TYPE-R head and I'm hoping to pump it up to 20 psi and put down 500 whp on stock sleeves reliably, but I'd be happy with 450 whp.
So by tapping the block for vtec all you mean is take out the plug with the alan key? I was under the impression that you have to drill into the block?
Mark I doubt you will see this but if you do please help. I see you are using a b20 head gasket. I’m sure oh are aware of the debate on what head gasket to run but seeing as b16/gsr are smaller than 84 this makes sense. My question I have a b18a1 with 81.5mm bore and a gsr cylinder head. Do I need the b18a1 head gasket or the gsr head gasket? Or would you skip both and run a cosmetic swap head gasket? My concern is with the rivets on the b18a1 head interfering with the seal of the block and head. Please if you see this it would mean the world to me to get our opinion since you are so knowledgeable
Hello just had a question. I had an lsvtec but block didn't last so i went with the b20b. Now the arp head studs still have the dowel pins on two of them and won't slide out. Can i use those pins on the b20b block? And where do they go intake or exhaust side? I got a felpro gasket.
On the gasket surface of the b20 block, there's a little plunger/plug. I'm running a b16 head on my b20 and was told to remove that part for more oil flow. What is that part and would that be the right thing to do? Great videos btw.
thanks for this very informative video man... sure it will come in handy when i start my build. Been watch your vids for a while and i love the them. keep doing what you doing 👍.
Excelint video Honda street garage. I'm going to build a low budget turbo LS e.g. Hatch. When boosting what torq specs do I use for the head or in general. I will be using ARP head studs and not to shor if I should use a block gaurd or not I have heard mix reviews due to tighting on the top of the sleeves and snapping motors. I'm looking to achieve 350-400hp if possible any info would be greatly appreciated. I've done swops befor but you made that hole proses look easy. Cheers from ny & ct
I bought a 00 integra sedan with a b20b with her head an it seems to start up am ideal an rev ok but it's getting alot of pressure in my valve cover will install a catch can in the two plugs in the back of the block fix my problem thanks
Very nice and informative! Planning a swap for my '95 hatch. I've been curious about b20v, because I want daily, but still want reliability for when I decide to go around a track.
Hey I know this video is old and you have quite a few very informative videos in regards to building a b20v. Is there any chance you could produce a written guide on how to build a b20v? It would be very useful to be able to reference a write up for my future build. Thanks
Hi there hsg I also currently in the process of the exactly same build (b20 block gsr head) I have a question regarding the gsr intake how you will manage to tune it with that intake because i ve heard that the gsr intake has this dual throttle thingy. You delete the secondary butterfly? And if its possible to make them work both, on what ecu p73 or p28? Thank you in advance
well yeah but that way there is no point keeping this intake because you loose all the benefits it gives you at low end he said that he wants the power at lower rpms where this intake is good...
Hey Mark ! So I have a GSR/B20 build but there's this little nipple at the lower back side of the intake manifold and i have no idea where to connect it, as well as the brass valve that looks like a ringer bell on the fuel rail (purge valve something like that). can you please tell me where they should be connected? Thanks
Awesome vid and right on time, bout to da same but LS-V tho which has type r pistons. Got a question, what about the oil pump? Heard it's recommended to use a vtec one, did massive research about it and only difference is a washer inside the oil pump that makes it flow better.
I've done research and asked everyone says different. But my question is, if I could use ITR head bolts for a b20v swap? I bought arp bolts but USPS literally lost my package. I've been working on this for the past 8yrs. Im desperate...
Will the engine fit in a honda civic 1991 hatchback? Was going to do a build like this. I bought the honda for $300. It has a blown engine, so i want to start with a clean slate, i do want some performance under the hood. Just looking for some advice.
can your guys do a episode on drilled and slotted rotor and caliper install? mine won't stop squeaking, i took off the dust covers, greased the slide bolts, everything i can think of amd it still squeeks.
Great vid and channel. I’ve been following for a while. I have a question. Why won’t my Ek b20 stay running ? It cranks and starts but once the rpms come down it turns off. I have a 98 civic ex coupe. It has a b20z swap with complete stock Ls intake manifold. P75 ecu. Dizzy has jumper harness. Aftermarket header no name. No exhaust yet. AEM 320 fuel pump. No o2 sensors plugged in yet but I didn’t think that would stop it from staying on. CEL is on only because 02 sensors aren’t connected.
I know im commeting to and old video. Still im also going ro go b20V but im going to use a b16 head but Im going to use integra type r cams. Should i adjust the valve lash?
and can still keep my a/c with this swap? the reason im doing this swp its because not many ppl have a b20b swap in this aerodeck 2000 us dont have it, at least i never seeing one over there and i was living in miami for 20 years never seen one so her eim spending money to do one !! thank you!!
Excellent video Honda Street Garage ! is there a video of you installing the AC components really wanted to see that since I have the same set up but in a 1993 hatchback
teggyboii official yooo I have an ek coupe for a daily but you guys pls check my track out I've been grindin soundcloud.com/youngalgotmoneybih/young-al-damn
I like the build so far you have good pointers but when you were doing the head bolts i thought using too much oil on the end might create a hydro-locking action on the bolt thus no proper torque just a question
Thank you for these videos im 19 and going to start my first build on my integra ! Everything that i want to do your able to walk through every step of the way !!! Keep it up !!!!!

When the B20 CRV came out in 1997 that helped. by 2000 or so there were some wrecked ones starting to be more common in yards
Facts ppl didn't start doing LSVs untill 2000+

I think this is the best B20v you have done yet, im glad you built it out of the car it is never fun to watch an engine built in a car.
You rock man
Oil line in the way of the filter and janking up the fuel line? No thanks! Not a fan of B20's but rapidly becoming a fan of your channel. Good work.
You should do a video on where to route all your vacuum hoses for the b20v

you can reuse the head bolts with no issues. That clutch is worn thin, but you'll be in there again. Nothing wrong with getting all the life out of it. Do you not have to plug up the bottom of the head for the oil pass-through. ?
Say I wanna get arp head studs if I got a b18b
with a b16a head would the regular arp head stud kit work
like ls head studs or?
hell yeah first kick, good to hear no ticks what so ever! thank you for priming engine youd be surpised how many people forget lol
looks like you might be dropping that trans soon, by the looks of that clutch it almost looks like its down to the rivets
That engine sounds smooth as butter...
Great video HSG im doing my first head gasket just watching you. thanks
Your videos are awesome Motivating me to start my own build.
I have question about the oil line for vtec. What are the details of the size and length of line and what fitting did you use. Rock on.
Get the golden eagle kit for ls vtec no guessing comes all things needed for the set up that's what's on mine
Question sir, what kind of timing belt to use, gsr belt or b20 belt?
Gsr belt water pump neck
So by tapping the block for vtec all you mean is take out the plug with the alan key? I was under the impression that you have to drill into the block?
Thanks for the info I’m going to be building a b20 vtec aka a Frankenstein for my integra
Mark I doubt you will see this but if you do please help. I see you are using a b20 head gasket. I’m sure oh are aware of the debate on what head gasket to run but seeing as b16/gsr are smaller than 84 this makes sense.

What do you do about the pvc system
I see you have the dowel pins on the intake side but I’m being told by golden eagle they go on exhaust side??????
if your using an si head should you use the si timing kit or do the si angsr belts have the same amount of teeth
Sounds good. I want to see some pulls!!
Where did you get that tee for the oil pressure sensor
????
Hello just had a question. I had an lsvtec but block didn't last so i went with the b20b. Now the arp head studs still have the dowel pins on two of them and won't slide out. Can i use those pins on the b20b block? And where do they go intake or exhaust side? I got a felpro gasket.

Why do the dowel pins only have to be in the back ?
What happens if I put one at the top and the other at the bottom?
thanks for this very informative video man... sure it will come in handy when i start my build. Been watch your vids for a while and i love the them. keep doing what you doing 👍.

B17 head for b20v
I kno b17 head is essentially a pr3 b16 head so would I just use b16 belt and water pump or gsr belt ?
Did he forget the O ring under the middle cam cap? Or is it not needed
Jose Estrada is very much needed as is the dowel pin...
he also forgot to lube the cam journals and caps lol

I know im commeting to and old video. Still im also going ro go b20V but im going to use a b16 head but Im going to use integra type r cams. Should i adjust the valve lash?
Do I have to change the water pump out or anything to use a b16 head with a b20b block ? Will the timing belt from my b20 still fit on the b16 head?
If running a b20b would you still mill that 10,000th with the 81mm head gasket?
Your videos are so cool your a bad ass mechanic keep it up
and can still keep my a/c with this swap? the reason im doing this swp its because not many ppl have a b20b swap in this aerodeck 2000 us dont have it, at least i never seeing one over there and i was living in miami for 20 years never seen one so her eim spending money to do one !! thank you!!
I have a 1996 Honda civic EK with a B18B block and a GSR head using a P75 chipped ecu my question is what Engine harness can I use?
love watching your videos you guys are awesome
Good job man fired right up sounds great wish you would of went over that wiring harness a bit but oh well good video great build
Cool video, question about the A/c bracket. I have a built gsr in my civic and i was wondering, what a/c bracket can i use for a GSR in an ej8?
How did you get the engine so clean? what paint?
What model snap on impact gun is that? Did it really break the torque on the head bolts?
Excellent video Honda Street Garage ! is there a video of you installing the AC components really wanted to see that since I have the same set up but in a 1993 hatchback
teggyboii official we have a separate video for that..
***** Wich Video is it in ? Thank You For Commenting Back Means Alot ✊

teggyboii official episode 4-23.... Basically you need every AC part for your car... With the B16 del sol ac bracket..... Hasport sells them.
Honda Street Garage thank you alot
what are your thoughts about using the t fitting for vtec conversion compare to the oil sandwich one
what are the torque specs for the connect rod bearing caps on the pistons
the dowel pins on the gsr hg are different sizes from the ls. Theoretically, u can use the gsr hg, but u have to enlarge the dowel pin holes.
Derrick Mitchell yes... But instead we used stepdown dowel pins... Check out the the Head prep video just before this one!
Honda Street Garage true, I forgot u used the step down dowel pins.
Nice Guide, i'll save this for my future build!! thank you so Much!
I like the build so far you have good pointers but when you were doing the head bolts i thought using too much oil on the end might create a hydro-locking action on the bolt thus no proper torque just a question
Really good video and thanks for the info you provided step by step!!!
