Thank you for always doing such thorough research keeping everything in context. I’ve been reading some of the comments on here and it is very clear and very sad that so many Christians have taken all of this out of context, and don’t understand the true purpose of these gifts. None of the gifts are to serve the self. They are all to serve The church as a whole. I think you did a wonderful job and I commend you. God bless you and your ministry!

Part of the confusion concerning tongues has to do with the occasions when persons received the Holy Spirit and the onlookers realised that persons had received the Holy Spirit (cf. The Apostles in Samaria Acts 8:14-17; Peter when visiting Cornelius Acts 10:44-46; Paul in Ephesus Acts 19:4-7). Many people assume that when persons received the Holy Spirit that these persons spoke in tongues as a evidence. We understand however from 1 Corinthians 12:7-10 there is the ninefold gifting of the Holy Spirit and unless the scripture specifically mentioned that the person receiving the Holy Spirit spoke in tongues, the manifestation could have been any one of the nine gifts.
Furthermore, since the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit include both speaking in tongues as well as the interpretation of tongues, this clearly shows that tongues are relevant for today's Christians.
Interestingly, in 1 Corinthians 14:18, Paul said he thanked God that he spoke with tongues more than everyone else and then in verse 19 stated that in the church (i.e. amongst Christians the Greek word is ekklesia) he would rather speak five words with his understanding to teach others than ten thousand words in a tongue. This clearly shows that tongues are relevant for today, however moreso for private use UNLESS there is an interpretation in which case they can be used publicly. This is confirmed by:
1 Corinthians 14:2 NKJV - For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
    and
1 Corinthians 14:4a NKJV - He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself.
Based on the scriptures it seems that there are four types of tongues.
    1. Tongues of another language for public use - Acts 2:4; 1 Corinthians 13:1.
    2. Tongues of another language for public use - which must be interpreted - 1 Corinthians 14:27 & 28.
    3. Tongues for private use for personal edification - 1 Corinthians 14:2, 4a, 5a, 14 & 15.
    4. Tongues of angels - 1 Corinthians 13:1.
Based on the scriptures, this MUST be our guide - Tongues SHOULD BE USED for the edifying of the body otherwise tongues should be used privately.

Speaking in tongues is a form of communication to God. It is a prayer, and doing so speaks directly to God alone, according to 1 Corinthians 14:2, “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”
Paul further emphasized this in his letter to the Corinthians, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful” (1 Corinthians 14:14).
Thus, the practice of speaking in tongues was important during Paul’s time to efficiently communicate with God through prayer.

There are different types of toungues and none have ceased. Paul said 1 corinthians 14: 13 For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 16 Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an inquirer,[d] say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying? 17 You are giving thanks well enough, but no one else is edified. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. We all should be praying in the spirit especially in our secret place for it edifies us.

    Acts 2:6
And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.
    Acts 2:8
And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?

So true this is what tongues was intended for to share the good news to a man of a different region/language.
      1 Corinthians 14:22 (ESV)
22 Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
Paul is saying that the purpose of speaking in tongues is to be a sign, a proof of sorts, to the unbeliever. Therefore, there is no reason for a group of believers to be speaking in tongues in this way to one another, for they already believe and do not need a miraculous sign.
And if the believer's spoke a actual tongue/lingua that the unbeliever had a grasp over it would draw him to faith.
But in our churches today this is not practised. In fact we doing that which is contrary to what was said by Apostle Paul.

First of all, your account of Acts 2:2-4 is so inaccurate. Nowhere in that text, did not say anything about the disciples speaking in tongues to the people. Rather, in verse 4, "they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues." In other words, because they were filled with the Holy Spirit, they began to speak, as a consequence of being filled with the Spirit. This was not done to the people. This was something the disciples were experiencing for themselves, then the people happened to hear them speak. Secondly, the scripture is very clear on what the gift of tongues is. Your explanation that tongues is a language that is communicated to someone who speaks a different language, is very wrong. In 1 Corinthians 14:2, it says, "For he who speaks in a tongue DOES NOT SPEAK TO MEN BUT TO GOD, FOR NO ONE UNDERTANDS HIM." In other words, tongues is not supposed to be understood by man. If I came to you and I never spoke french, and all of a sudden, I began speaking in french, that won't be much surprise to you. You would think Oh, I probably learnt that somewhere. It's no miracle when someone speaks a different language. The gift of tongues is supposed to only understood by God and not make sense to anyone, because according to the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:2, tongues are not spoken to men, but to God. It is such a miracle that it requires the gift of interpretation of tongues for it to be meaningful to men. If I spoke a different language to someone who understands it, they will not require the gift of interpretation to understand what I'm saying. Paul also said, in verse 5, "I wish you all spoke with tongues." In other words, it is God's desire for all believers to speak with tongues. The only reason he speaks of prophesy in this text as being greater, was when a prophetic word is to be given, that should be given in a language everyone can understand. That is not the same thing as praying in tongues. In 1 Corinthians 14:14, Paul says, "If I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful". Then in verse 15 of that same chapter, he says, "I will pray with the spirit (pray in tongues) and I will also pray with my understanding." This is referred to as praying in tongues. So, No sir, the gift of tongues has not ceased. It is actively working. I speak in tongues and so many believers who work in the power of the Holy Ghost speak with tongues, just like the Apostles did. So study your bible more accurately

Speak with love in your attempt to rebuke.
Acts 2:6-8 confirms that their tongues were in fact of an earthly language being understood by the people.
1 Corinthians does mention an “unknown tongue” that is only spoken to God. Meaning two truths can coexist, you can speak an unpracticed language as well as a holy language that is only understood by The Most High. It also is miraculous to speak in a tongue fluently that you’ve never studied; imagine receiving confirmation, prophecy or rebuke from a foreigner who is able to communicate and speak with you well though not knowing what they say… try not to put a limit on God’s capability of miracles, God can use anyone as His mouthpiece, this is evidence. From my understanding of tongues, if you speak the holy tongue, or a tongue that can not be interpreted, it should be kept to yourself, and not flaunted.
I do agree that they haven’t ceased, it’s definitely still an active gift, but I do agree with it being a rarity. Many people like to be performative in the church, to make it appear they have this higher relationship with God than others. And if one has the true ability to speak the “unknown tongue”, then those who flash it around are being kinda disobedient, for that language isn’t so much for man in the first place due to having no interpreter. The video was quite informational and some parts, accurate.

No all things were made for the glory of God you me all the stars.
The meaning of life is to give glory to the creator. Love and obey HIM

@@ifthatthenthis3797 Religion uses brainwashing to convince people that they do not matter and that facts of science are heresy. Religion in general is a primitive way of thinking that causes people to oppose any change for good. Humans developed religion as a method of trying to cover up the shocking fact that there is nothing controlling the world, which they could not comprehend… ”because there must be some purpose to life!”. In the real world, science (and not just science, but simple fact-checking of even the integrity of the words within the Bible itself, constantly in contradiction, such as the time when supposedly Elijah, or Josiah, went to Heaven even though Jesus later said no one ever had, clearly meaning he did not know everything, or lied, and therefore he was imperfect and not “God”) has provided unbelievable evidence against the possibility of anything happening under Jesus’ name in the Bible to be a “miracle,” but rather a normal scientific process, or rather, an illusion or mistelling of events. Religion is damaging, transphobic and homophobic for no reason whatsoever (and is the number one source of the nonsensical thing that is homophobia / transphobia), and teaches people that you can’t be wrong, leading to either unhealthy belief narcissism or crisis when they end up finding out otherwise. (THE TRUTH)
“No amount of Evidence will Ever Persuade an Ignorant Person.”
