    I’ve seen another comparison video for this battery against the oem battery on their lawn mower. The gentleman said it didn’t perform well, his mower kept shutting down while using this battery, where the oem battery had no issues. I would love to see a high amperage draw test performed on this battery.

      I have seen some bad reviews and comparisons for sure. I mention that in one of the videos I believe. Maybe the Ruzixt 5Ah 1 year update video. I only have 2 of these aftermarket type packs. The 5ah that I bought first just to look inside and compare. The 6Ah they sent me to review. I can only share what I have tested and I have used these in the mower and blower for over 2 years now. Mine have happened to hold up well. They obviously have Chinese cells and a copied BMS board. I also see so many different sellers now that I don't know how the quality varies. I only have one video showing me using it in a mower. I just happen to use it while testing the mower in the video below. I also use it in this repaired mower ever since the repair of it in the following video. I don't have an easy way to load tests other than the mower and blower itself.
      Thanks for your comment!

      I had a link at the time of the video for eBay where I ordered mine. They seem harder to find now? I see a few on eBay still and they are asking too much for them, unless you cant wait I would see if Digi-key or Newark gets them back in stock.
      This is a link to Newark and they show out of stock and possible available in March 2022?

    I have a question, maybe I've asked before. The 14" and 16" ego chainsaws have half the rpm capability as the 18". I have seen a lot of comments in an EGO facebook group that the 18" is a different motor and therefore capable of double the rpms. I am wondering if they are all the same size motor or actually different. But maybe the 18 just has the ability for more voltage to go to it and therefore more rpm's?

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 года назад +1

      I don't have the 18" chainsaw to say for sure, but I believe the 18" is a higher output motor. The 14" and 16" are the same other than the bar and chain. The 18" is a marketed as having more cutting speed and power at least.

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  Год назад +1

      I would like to see inside of those also. If you do a video looking inside the 12Ah send me the link. I don't know enough to say since they may be a lot different. One thing to mention is most of these on the board end where the fuel gauge and BMS board is, be careful and don't pull hard lifting it off. I have had viewers show me that they snatched the end off and pulled the wires out of the board. Usually these only have a 1-2" of wire length from pack to board and 3 connectors. The back cover and the separation of the halves is usually very easy on the other packs.

      I will add 3 links below. The first is the eBay link to one similar to the one that I used in the video. I will also add some Amazon links to similar adapters if they work for you, the cheaper one has smaller gauge wire so depends on the load you plan to use of course.

    So I have a 36v battery pack out of a hover board. The voltage was 1 volt so I woke the cells up with the charger and now it reads 40volts at the B- B+ on the pack but when I use the xt60 connector on the BMS the voltage reads 26v so I used another bms from another similar battery and the same thing the voltage reads 26 volts. Could it just be both bms boards are bad?

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 года назад

      Well, what are the individual cells reading. If the pack went to 1V more than likely all the cells did not balance back out correctly. You could have some bad cells in series and they are low and some unfortunately will be over voltage. The BMS maybe doing its job and picking up an issue with individual cell monitoring.

    • @E85_STI
      @E85_STI 2 года назад

      Thanks for the info so I went back and disassembled the pack and got a reading of each cell and there was 4 that was at 3 volts so I swapped them out and now the pack is reading at 41volt. I get why the voltage was dropping as those cells were charging off the others and it’s funny because I knew that already but for some reason didn’t think to check the voltage AFTER the pack was sitting for a few days. I would check it after a charge and of course the volts would drop a little but not much to cause alarm.

      @@ThriftyToolShed thx - seems many of the off brand "5.0Ah" packs actually have 5.0Ah of additional juice, but right now there's a jump from "5.0" to "7.5" (haven't found a good test of these to see how much they actually have) for double the price. appreciate the feedback and tests!

    We all know that using non-OEM batteries is not recommended, but can it be really dangerous? Is there a significant risk of injury or, to put it shortly: can it explode?

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 года назад +3

      I do not see anything in these packs myself to be scared of. I only own 2 of these, but I have many Chinese cells and the only issue I have ever had with them so far is some manufacturers over hype the capacity of the cell for selling strategy of course. That is why I wanted to capacity test this one and I was truly surprised. I don't see anything on these packs that would scare me anymore than any Li-ion cells made by anyone else. Even Samsung had issue before. I always say that I treat these almost like gasoline, it's alot of energy per pound, very energy dense for sure. Anytime I handle any high energy device I try to be cautious of what the energy can do, especially since I work on alot of these! I try to be cautious when lithium cells are being in use (discharging) and while being charged and especially if I am working on these on my bench!

      They will bounce back up some for sure. These monitor individual cells also, so if any cell drops below 2.9-3V or so the pack will shutdown. So it could be shutting down a little early if any cell has lost a little bit of capacity!
