    THE BANG TRICK WORKED .SO glad I saw the comments about banging the battery from about a foot off the ground and dropping it. IT WORKED I had THREE bad batteries. ALL THREE have been working GREAT since May and I recharge and use the OFTEN. HOLY GUACAMOLE. Those three bad ones were here for over a year. I bought two news ones for 200 bucks a piece but something told me NOT to throw those bad ones out. THREE bad batteries now working PERFECTLY for five months with CONSTANT charging. I have the lawn mower, leaf blower and snow blower and I use the blower daily and the lawn mower once per week. HUGE area. SO glad I was the comments about BANGING the batteries. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

    Thank you very much for investigating the flashing red light situation and explaining it! I called the Ego help number and waited for over an hour and finally hung up. I guess I should have read the manual (when all else fails). I was worried about what if meant and also was afraid of a house fire. I will subscribe to your channel.

    Thanks for the information. Although I have never seen all red lights in a resting battery, it is good to know what it means. Good job on seeing the red light and following through with Ego about it. Many people would not notice and not bother to find the cause.

    Great video. I rotate my batteries on the charger week to week. I also have my charger on a timer so it only comes on for a few hours each day. I haven't noticed a decrease in battery life from this practice. I recently upgraded to the new mower with 10ah battery and new charger which seems to have more smarts built in than the basic black charger I have been using. I may need to just cycle that charger on for a hour each day to keep the battery topped off if necessary. I probably need to practice the cool down for the 10ah battery since it will be under constant use longer than my string trimmer or blower on my small quarter acre yard.

    I found my way to this video just now after finding my battery stored inside for the winter doing this, freaking out, and Googling it. Lol. I've owned Ego products for 6 years and knew about the self maintenance function - but never noticed the red lights and warmth. It would be nice if the manual mentioned to expect this behavior when it's doing self maintenance. I thought it was about to blow up!

    Wow, thank you....I noticed this last Winter, I had my batteries fully charged, and had placed them in my closet. I opened the door to get something, and I saw one of the batteries doing this, and when I pushed the button, all of the bars lit up...I never thought anything about it. Then the other day, I noticed one of the batteries doing the same thing, sitting where I keep them. It felt warm when I touched it. I almost called EGO but didn't. I have two 5ah batteries, a 7.5ah, and a 2.5 ah.....I usually use the 7.5 the most, in all my EGO tools, so I guess the 5.9 that was red, hadn't been used for a while.....Great Tips on charging and maintenance. I guess sometimes it really pays to read the manuals that come with products, LOL

    Thank you sooo much for this. I have 6 of these batteries in the garage on a shelf and 1 of them just started to do the same thing after a month of storage or so. Would be all of them or at least two, but only one, I was worried. Like you, I freaked out because of the warm to the touch!!! They should also add in the user manual something about this red light lighting up for 10 seconds or so periodically, that would have helped to attribute the symptom to the root cause. God bless you for sharing this on youtube!

    Nice informational vid, experience this myself (solid red and warm to the touch, not hot) with my 56V 7.5AH (BA4200T) included with my purchase with the Mower (Feb 2021). In general, lithium batteries perform better when constantly charge up verses the older nickel metal hydride battery (NiMH or Ni-MH). These were prone to "memory effect/voltage depression" when not discharged to 10-20% before being re-charged. But rechargeable lithium does benefit from exercising, meaning they tend to last longer/work better when discharged approx. 30% occasionally. In the case with EGO, it's safe to assume winter months it's just sitting so self-maintenance would kick in, won't be needing that in the warm months since it's being drained enough to not go through any self-maintenance checks, given all things are in working order. The problem is it really does not say that in the manual. 5-LED shining red = over temperature. Why is it over temperature sitting there, I'm not using it. Is this how it's discharging, makes sense and would explain why it's warm? The manual says it 5 LEDs shine solid for 10 seconds ang go out for 10 seconds (slow blink). Does not seem to do that or maybe I missed the slow blinking part and now it was solid red from being warm not hot, though. Anywho I pressed & held the center button, and it went back to normal and is indicating fully charged (all green), will check it in my mower (the only EGO equipment I own) just to give it a check.

    I had a NEW EGO 5Ahr battery give me the "red eye" when I woke up to fix my dinner prior to going to work for a mid work shift.Earlier that evening a VIOLENT thunder-lightening storm passed thru my area.The battery affected was not connected to anything and was full charge.So I put it in the Ego chrager and the battery "reset" itself.The end of the battery with the status light was warm.Figure that has the "bleeder" resistors that do the self maintenance.Guess the storm somehow tripped the battery to maintenance mode.The battery is less than a month old from Lowes.Came with my leafblower.After I reset it in the charger-it worked my Ego area lamp just fine-and even ran it at 6400Lm for about 2hrs!The Ego lamp is one of my "star" lights in my flashlight and portable battery light collection.Next is my Polarion light-this is like a handheld card HID headlight you can hold in your hand! I do store my batteries inside along with my other recharrgeable batteries. Now I have several Ego battery packs-4 for the ride mower and 1 each for the Ego hand mowers and one for the Ego leaf blower.

    If you leave these batteries on the charger, they will also self-maintain themselves like this. If they have been on the charger and are showing fully charged and have been on the charger between uses, when you use them they will only last a short period of time before they need to be recharged. I started putting the chargers on a smart plug so that I could turn them on so they will charge and be ready to go when I was ready to use them.

    "Depending on the battery charge, it will automatically perform a self-discharge operation after one month of storage. I thought it was safe to keep the battery connected to the charger because the charger has built-in "artificial intelligence" to manage the battery when connected. It will not overcharge it - it will not continually charge it - and it knows if the battery has not been used and will permit it to deplete for long term storage and battery health - all while connected to the charger.

    • @TechMadeEzy
      @TechMadeEzy  2 года назад +1

      You are correct, I recommend this in general for all batteries just a good practice and something to get used to. With EGO you are correct, their batteries and chargers are well made.

    • @dudrija82
      @dudrija82 2 года назад +1

      @tech made easy can you confirm that this is a ok method. I’ve been doing it this way for a month now thinking that the battery and charger will work in conjunction to keep battery health 100 percent. If not then I will remove them from the charger.

    • @TechMadeEzy
      @TechMadeEzy  2 года назад +2

      Hi Daniel, From what I've learned this is correct but I simply keep my charger unplugged. Also keep in mind if your battery sits around with a full charge the battery technology will automatically start to discharge and you'll see a flashing red light that's normal don't worry about it.

    I came here..because I just saw this exact same thing..I stood there and was watching after I came in the door I saw the all red lights flash..stay on...flash..I walked over..pushed the button and all green came on fully charged.. I got to thinking...my next step was to quietly round up all the batteries...when I thought they may not be listening or monitoring vibration or inertia.. and put them at the furthest corner of my garage and watch them via camera..because now I thought..I am being monitored by hackers through ...this battery I thought now has other nefarious purpose...I was thinking will it at a specific moment explode...or emit poison gas?...is it a tracker...or a recorder that send back video an voice info on a private network it's equipped with? Is it a government monitoring tool? Are little legs about to pop out and it start chasing me shooting poisonous darts at me and my pets??! I was going nuts..though I tried not to panic..
    So I decided decided to come on you tube...I am glad you went further
    Because I was thinking you were an operative for this deadly plot to blow up or poison millions of homes!
    Well..now I can rest...
    I am still giving the batter the side eye though...I sm taking it and it's charger out NY living room to a undisclosed spot in my garage!😂😂

    I thought for a moment and then remember Oh yeah, they're supposed to do something like this after they're not used.

I've often wondered if I could leave them on the charger with the charger powered off to save storage space.

Ok but mine was flashing for 3 hrs and I finally pressed center button and it was all green bars full. After I pressed it it didnt start maintenance again. Here is where I am confused. I thought it was suppose to bring it down to 30 percent in maintenance mode. And why after 3 hrs was it still doing maintenance. And why did I have to stop it. After 3 hrs it should have been depleting charge as its suppose to do. Anyone else have this happen.

    I have been using mine weekly - my EGO is 2 years old and I have only used it about 20 times. Mine flashed all red while I was using it. Then the next time it went from 3 bars to 1 bar within a minute. Then when I charged it , it didn't charge all the way - it stopped at 4 bars. Now this time it won't charge at all. I store it in my house so it is not subject to temp changes. I don't store it empty, I don't charge it when it is hot. I follow all of the suggestions and my battery went kaput :(

    So, does it also decide to stop and do maintenance when in use? I'm mowing, and then the mower stops, and the light is blinking red. It was fully charged when I started, and now it's dead. Also, sometimes it comes off the charger red and nonfunctional. I can wait a whole day and it makes no difference. This was a replacement for a battery that failed under warranty. Since the failed battery had only six months left, the warranty for this replacement was...yes, you guessed it. Six months. Now MOST of the time when I pick it up it blinks red and will not work. I've warned neighbors who ask about my electric mower that the weak area in EGO products is the battery. This makes two out of four that I've had that are bad. I could spend more on batteries than if I had the grass cut by the local illegal alien yard people! And that's what I'm thinking about right now. So I may shortly have EGO mower, string trimmer, edger, and three iffy batteries for sale...cheap.

    the problem people have with these batteries is that people full charge their batteries and leave them which damages the batteries. after a period of time the battery discharges to stop further damage. Never full charge your battery if you don't plan to use them soon. they say to charge them cause the BMS consumes power and you don't want to over discharge them which causes damage.

And secondly, if the red light meant it was discharging than the battery should be discharging but it hasn't. It still has 5 bars and read full on the charger. I believe the solid red means that its unable to discharge properly.
