if you look at the way the Americans seem to always portray themselves as the heroes in any event even the movies they make are biased based towards them as being the ones who did certain things during the war where in fact they did not participate in the real action but it is the Hollywood belief that a action film where an allied country does something they did not will not sell movies so it must be Americans who are the heroes
America did not come into the war till after pearl harbour December 41 Britain stood alone since September 39 and most of the continent had been conquered Britain also fought and won the air battle the battle of Britain and her cities were bombed night London itself was.bombed for 3 or 4 months continously long before America or Russia entered the war, if Britain 🇬🇧 hadn't stayed free ,there wouldn't have a place for the Americans and other allies to launch d day the assault on Hitlers Germany and freeing other countries including France who seem to hate the British for liberating them , if the British hadn't stayed free the world under German /nazi rule would be a dark and terrible place
British sense of humour is steeped in sarcasm, irony, antagonism and generally taking the p*ss out of anyone and anything....it's not personal. Takes Americans (particularly) a long while to get used to the humour.
2:32 The US has fought wars BUT on many occasions with allies who were stronger or weaker than the US at the time. The US did NOT win WW2 on their own, nor WW1, nor Korean war, nor Vietnam, nor Gulf war, nor Afghanistan. On many wars they were late to the party and gained a 'win' from being on the winning side at the end of a war WW1 and WW2 would qualify as that. US internal propaganda of rewriting history to suit US propaganda happens everyday. Even war for Independence was fought with a majority of Spanish and French troops, who commanded the US troops. So Al is right the US has a record of losing on their own. Al Murary has an Oxford degree in World History.
You have to remember that Al Murray is playing a character called the Pub Landlord, which is what we call the owner/manager of a pub. This character is hyper nationalist and is critical of any non British country and even the non English counties in the UK. The theatre is effectively his pub and the audience are the customers and he is offering up his distorted opinions to them. In reality Al Murray is very well educated particularly in field of military history and has made some really good documentaries. If you listen closely, he also makes fun of the British, but this is often made to sound like a positive. Unfortunately I have heard some people with nationalist views saying that he's making some good points without realising that they are in fact the butt of the joke.
Relax, All english speaking countries have signed an agreement to make fun of each other without retribution. We either laugh or accept the shit said about us, even then we still laugh.
He clearly is not mentioning the Anglo Dutch wars, and especially the ‘Raid on the Medway’ where the Dutch fleet destroyed most of the English fleet. While towing the HMS Royal Charles to Amsterdam, where you can still find its stern piece proudly displayed in the Rijksmuseum. He obviously know about this, given his education and intelligence, but needs his character to overlook these facts.
@@teddypeony185 I understand that, he is playing a character. However the claim he is making is false, while he makes it look as if it is the truth. He himself is highly educated and knows this. In comedy this is obviously justified, but I do feel many people feel his pub persona is real and speak complete truth.
What is often not realised, Murray is actually, very subtely, making fun of the English. By insulting other countries and peoples he is poking fun at the narrow minded, poorly educated and hyper nationalistic English people often found in pubs and at football matches. It is us he is making fun of in a very round about way.
Not only is he a comedian, who takes the piss (as the landlord), he's also a really good historian. I cant wait to you see Micky Flanagan's 'Out Out' or any of Mickeys stuff. What about Eddie Izzard stuff.
There is more Al Murray to react to, such as "Secretary (The Pub Landlord)". And yes, the new setup is a vast improvement, audio and video wise. Great job!
America has a pervasive cultural and reaches across the world with films, music and business. Therefore, it is an easy target for comment and jokes. The UK has been/is in a similar position when people want to use stereotypes.
as said before, its the english sense of humour, if we take the p**s out of you, it means we like you normaly, so dont be offended, though something back, its what we call banter, we like you
One of the best things about seeing Americans react to Al Murray is seeing how literal and butthurt they get over COMEDY! Whoosh! That's the sound of you missing the point. Went right over your head!
Good Reaction but THE GOLDEN RULE of British people is that the time to worry about our relationship as 2 Nations is when we DON'T take the piss or make fun of you:)
Sorry mate but you're wrong. The Australians who fought bravely at Tobruk may well have been called the Rats of '******' but the term 'Desert Rats' specifically refers to the 7th Armoured Division, a component of the British Army. Hope this clarifies things for you my bewildered Australian cousin 😉😊👍
You seem very nice but like a lot of Americans do not know much about other people's cultures read and educate yourself about the world around you ,it exists, you may be pleasantly surprised 😮
On you dont know is probably the most used phrase used by Americans when taking about the British or humour. And FYI the Americans have won a war...... it was the American civil war but to them it counted as a win. Your husband's a voluntary army ?
The problem with this is, you need to have some understanding of different types of humour, some inkling of how other cultures are viewed and a basic understanding of comedy. All of these things, you are lacking. Other than that, it's great...
Ironic humour (British staple) , he's portraying an uberpatriotic bigot. The jokes are self deprecating or exaggerations, pointing out the stupidity of thinking you're the best country. Unless you're British, coz we are the best!
He's poking gentle fun at the Americans, you should hear him about the French !!

U571 case in point.
9th May 1941 HMS Bulldog boarded U110, captured Enigma. May 1941 America WASN'T EVEN in the war!!

That's why they think John Wayne won the war by himself

i think we love it so much because americans can never uncover how our humour works hahaha
We brits are good as telling you the truth to your face laced in jokes so you laugh at your self without knowing.
It's comedy. It's not ment to be taken seriously eh. Comedy!
He takes the piss out of everyone, it just happens this clip is from one of his live shows where he was interacting with an American in the audience.

Dont take it personally. He takes the piss out of everyone. But the americans are an easy target.

Lol you are right. He forgot that. And the marines were invented, founded by Michiel de Ruyter. So the americans and british should thank him.
The English call the Dutch invasion, and the overthrow of the legitimate British government, the "Glorious Revolution"
of course, he isn't... it's a joke.

As a Brit, it's fully understood that the whole point of his routine is to poke fun at ourselves.

Americans are like our child but they've grown up moved up and they are out of control hooligans
Yeah looks good
You only make fun of people you like
There is more Al Murray to react to, such as "Secretary (The Pub Landlord)". And yes, the new setup is a vast improvement, audio and video wise. Great job!
I think there must have been Americans in the audience again
They're just jokes after all. The US military is fine.
he's a comedian .........chill out.

'Why does he make fun of Americans?'
Consider that Americans voted in Donald Trump !!!!!!!! - Now ask your self that question again.
Not all Americans!

Don't take it personally, it's just cos you're not British.
Maybe its comedy.
