Just watched the video in the link, they call the back piece a sacrificial heel, apparently another way to help prevent kickback.
That heel is an odd setup.

Nice review. I have a couple of cheaper versions, similar to your 3d printed version. I like the Milescraft better.
Me 2, the Milescraft was "better" than expected after a few test runs. Guess my 3d is going to collect dust now.
