    So happy to hear you were pleased with our Spartan bottom paint! Can't wait to see how the next bottom painting job turns out!

    Great show. Love the boat projects. That was a great hack Todd did making a wreck for that 3 inch nut. That was genius. When I was younger we sailed in Michigan. Things would go wrong and my Dad would just blow up. Then when we got things right he would always say " I'm not hollering at you, I'm just mad at the situation ". Maybe Todd was just mad at the situation with the wires in the master. 😊

      Thanks for watching. Todd doesn’t yell, that would be me. 😅 But yes, he can get frustrated with the situation. 🤪😍

    2 Springs ago I totally stripped the bottom of my sailboat and put 7 coats of barrier coat then 3 coats of ablative bottom paint. Still clean as a whistle, no blisters, no leaks. I barrier coated the inside lockers and bilge then painted with bilge paint at the same time. Granted it was WORK and not as cheap as just new bottom paint, but SO WORTH it. I live aboard, alone, and have on this sailboat since 1992. I love my boat and would not live any other way. Your boat is doing good and the paint is relatively easy to patch given the big scratch. Have fun. ❤❤🎉

      My wife and I sure plan on moving to a boat. It will most likely be a trawler. My wife’s name is Annie too. I looked at your page to see if you made RUclips videos but seen you watch some of the same stuff I do. Like Will P.

    regarding bottom paint/anti foul you might wanna check "copper coat". It is basically epoxy with copper powder mixed in and the only maintenance to do would be to slightly sand it on the parts where bigger growth happens and it has a fantastic longevity. regarding your pitted shaft: you absolutely should check for stray current and your anodes as more stray current could even eat more of the shaft. glad to see you again. keep it up.

    • @Spoondrifters
      @Spoondrifters  7 месяцев назад

      Copper coat is pricey, and not easy to apply well. TotalBoat has been working well for us. Yes we considered stray current as the issue. We think the cheap marina we left the boat in was the problem.

    Quick tip for throwing lines, don't throw to them, throw as if you want to knock them off the dock, this means you won't throw short.

      Ha! A lot, as the weather wouldn’t cooperate for getting the outside done. If we hadn’t picked Awlgrip for our bootstripe we could have been in and out in a month but it was just too cold. As it was it took two. Luckily this yard is a great price and charges by the month not the day.

  • @meatdog
    @meatdog 7 месяцев назад +1

    After I repaired my blisters last time, I repainted the bootstrap with AWLGRIP. That paint is much easier to handle than everyone will tell you. I got the brush on formula and it turned out perfect. It also comes in a spray on version but the brush on left NO telltale brush marks.

    Butyl tape around the base of the mast will stop any water leaks.

    Great job on the boat repair. Did not realize you had so much to do. I will not make it back to my boat till the end of June, ( I hope ). Yes I figured you should be back in the water and heading south. GodSpeed to you all and have fun.

    Maybe a bigger/more anodes on the shaft to avoid that nasty pitting on the ptop shaft.

      Last year, 2023 it was in North Carolina near Oriental. Before that Port Aransas TX. We only have liability and have a grandfathered policy. It’s tough to get right now.

    For the metal underwater bits, it all fails. I tried Propspeed, Trilux and Velox, and it all comes off. There’s a UK product that’s lanolin based and it worked ok, but that was in cold water…

    I want to install a dripless stuffing box. Is your stuffing box dripless or the old fashion packing like I still have?? If yours is dripless how many times did you have to adjust it until it was properly seated?

    • @Spoondrifters
      @Spoondrifters  7 месяцев назад

      No we don’t have a dropless but we struggle to get it to drip. 😅

    If the halyard will pinch the cable when under load, isn't there a risk that it will wear on the cable later when the halyard is used?

    • @Spoondrifters
      @Spoondrifters  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, but we pulled the exit cover off and unthreaded it from the halyard to keep that from happening.

    So why was the prop shaft so pitted?

    • @Spoondrifters
      @Spoondrifters  7 месяцев назад +1

      We think there was stray current in the marina we left it in while dealing with Abigail. We had the zinc’s replaced once while we were there but they were very small by the time we hauled out.

  • @normanboyes4983
    @normanboyes4983 7 месяцев назад +1

    I would be concerned about the prop shaft - looks like stray current sort of stuff. Interestingly Nigel Calder covered this on one of Arabella’s YT videos - I think they pinned it down to the use of graphite grease (amongst other things). ruclips.net/video/ekp8GFnKmDI/видео.htmlsi=xUZ9MSPhNL3oUbmW
