Since I only use ONE DOS platform program, I found a bit simpler way to do this without using the automator. I used the “Command” + “Shift” + “.” (period) trick in Finder to show the hidden files. I found the default configuration file, and made the changes there. This way, the same setup is used for ALL DOSBOX apps, but since I use only one DOS app, this approach was the simpler solution. Thanks Michael! This video was a great help!
Excellent.. I Just got a Mac and was looking for this.... You just saved me all the grief of long file names.....And that crazy mouse capture. As on a Windows. Thanks a lot for making this video! It really helps you to start going with DosBox on a Mac! I have been using DosBox on a PC for a while, but there are always these little differences that can be so pesky))) Have a very nice day out there))
Mac OS X If you are using Mac OS X, a preferences file will be created for you on the first time you run DOSBox (as of version 0.73). This file contains the same system settings and initialization values as the dosbox.conf file on other systems. It can be found (and modified) at ~/Library/Preferences/DOSBox 0.73 Preferences, where ~/ is your user profile folder (usually /Macintosh HD/Users/username/). The exact folder name in the Finder may vary, depending on the language you use for OS X.
After you first run DOSBox, go to the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder and open the newly created file DOSBox 0.74 Preferences. The exact folder name in the Finder may vary, depending on the language you use for OS X. By editing this file, you can set the system settings and initialization values that define your emulated environment. You can also add MOUNT commands to the AUTOEXEC section at the bottom of the configuration files, so that you do not have to type them in every time you start DOSBox.
Thank you for this in depth guide. My biggest issue is the full screen but i think i'm going to make a custom config to resize it just so its a bigger screen 👍
Totally a novice here... did your Orion game come from a CD-Rom or was it a download from elsewhere? I have a CD-Rom game I'm trying to use DosBox to play, but am unsure if its possible to get it into the stages and location you have your Orion game?

Why did your orion command open the game, whereas mine seems to stick at me needing to install? Thank you so much. - Mike
The original game needed to be setup before it could be run. That way it knows what sound card you have..... run install from the dos prompt of the folder of the game and it writes a file called install.dat. Then you can run orion successfully. Tell it you have a sound blaster with the default settings since dosbox emulates a sound blaster.
