    Hi love I’m so glad I’ve found your channel. I was diagnosed with Tourette’s when I was 6 years old, I am 27 now (female) and they have changed so much over the years but never went away. I used to have motor ticks along with vocal ticks when I was younger and now all I do is pop my ears and make humming noises at the same time. No one knows except for my family I’ve been embarrassed my whole life but I want to start being more open about it. You’re an inspiration thank you for being you 💖

    My father has tourette syndrome and I honestly never understood some of the things he did until now.
    When I was a child I would notice that after a conversation with someone, he would whisper certain phrases of the conversation over and over again to himself. However if he noticed I was watching, he could stop himself.
    I honestly thought it was entirely separate from his tourettes, but now I understand the replaying of words in his mind is echoskepsi.
    Thank you for explaining this, I feel like I know him even better now

    Is it possible to just have Paliskepsi? I mean, I don't have Tourette's, but my thoughts keep getting stuck at single words or full sentences and it's annoying and distracting. Or maybe that's just something common and the name Paliskepsi shouldn't be used in such cases, dunno.

    Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking but do you tic pretty much constantly or do you have spells of lots of ticcing followed by a few hours or days off? Also do you take any medication for it or even is there any medication for it?

    • @Zara_Beth
      @Zara_Beth  3 года назад +5

      i dont take any medication no. there’s no specific meds for tics or tourettes however some point are prescribed antipsychotics as a sort of trial to see whether they help (but often have side effects). i tic pretty much constantly but not severely, so ill always blink and twitch my neck but i get some hours where i might not swear or shout anything for example :)

    Wow, I can't imagine how much of an hindrance this must be in life. Must make literally every action take much longer to do due to losing focus (I mean I'm not sure about that as some of it happens without realization).
    Since you tried to keep the video relatively clean from tics, I'm guessing just even making those clips were a challenge on its own.
    But maybe I'm wrong by that you don't actually have them happen as frequently as we might think when looking at these videos for instance, since they're edited.
    What's like your average tick rate in a minute ?

      From experience i can say that motor tics other than just ones like hitting or smacking can hurt. Some people including myself have them. Like sometimes i’ll have a tic that like holds my hand in a fist and it can cause a lot of muscle pain especially if it goes for prolonged periods of time (there can also be other tics like this), some also like neck jerking tics or like arm throwing tics can pull at muscles and stuff and cause pain. I personally also have some where i bite stuff like my fingers or pinch/stab myself with my fingernails etc. there are also motor tics that can stop you breathing or like only causing u to inhale/exhale and they can cause pain. Some people also have like hair pulling tics which can be painful. also ik u didn’t ask but vocal tics can hurt too. Often it happens when they are too high pitch or for some people grungting like ones.

I am guessing it is a coping mechanism. What do you think/ know of this practice? | Much Love, peace & Respect | Stay Safe.

      it’s a kind of fun thing that we do as a way to “blame” the swearing and inappropriate stuff on tourettes by personifying it, some people don’t like it as it makes tourettes seem like someone else entirely but it can help some people. i personally havent named mine purely because i’m too indecisive to pick a name lmao

    Thank you for doing this, it was very interesting and informative; I really enjoyed it. A question I had from it is since Tourette's is often a comorbid disorder, how would you know if you had OCD vs. it just being a tic/part of your Tourette's (both with the physical movements and repetitive thoughts)?

    • @Zara_Beth
      @Zara_Beth  3 года назад +6

      a compulsion associated with ocd is different to a tic, they feel different as a tic is a physical urge much like an itch/needing to cough or blink whereas a compulsion is the thought of needing to do something to satisfy the mental feeling of unjust (if that makes sense). i have both ocd and tourettes and they’re pretty easily separable when you understand both and can feel them :)) i hope that helps, i’m planning to do a video on ocd at some point

    For me I've noticed I will have skepsi tics of things that are more complex than I normally do outloud, so like I'll have a partial or full sentence come in my head (which I only ever have complex vocal tics during tic attacks) and it feels the same as a premonitory urge and then only the first word or first sound of that sentence will come out.

    I've had Minor variations of some of these ...most of my life. But because it's not as noticeable .. to others. I've never considered it a problem. But I can see how the more obvious ones could be a problem in public
    I've gotten stuck in my head repeating things. Like to the point where it's totally noticable by me. But. It's not verbal. Or. 99% of the time it's not verbal. I also have made up music in my head ... often. And rhyming....to no end... It's just a natural thing for me. And it's not something that often is verbal. Although. My cats know it well. Because I can talk to them .. and if it's amusing to me. They like it too

    I'm new to your videos. I've watched all your TikToks. Thank you, for feeling comfortable enough to share with us. This video really opened my eyes. I do have a question tho. Were you born with your tics, or are they something that developed over time?

    Thank you so much for creating this video. I’ve been looking into Tourette’s for years now as my child was diagnosed early on. But I had never understood it explained this well. You have such a kind and honest way about you. Thanks for taking the time to help others.

    This was such an educational video. I like wordplay so when you said something was on your TikTok I thought it sounds just like Tic Talk :)
    Have you ever had people get angry at you for tics because they didn't understand, especially in school? My cousin has Tourettes but he just has simple tics like throat clearing.

    In fourth grade my teacher was talking with the janitor that walked into the room, and she laughed out loud, and there was I in the front row, involuntarily copying her laugh OUT LOUD. She swung her darting eyes at me and yelled "😠Do you want your name on the board!!?" 🤣

    I watched soma of your more recent videos and it seems that your symptoms have lessend, or are you just cutting out more of your tics? Have you had trouble with TickTock or Insta censorship machine because of your tics?

    I really learned a lot from the video. Interestingly as Zara talked the tics were much less noticeable as I got used to them until I really did not notice them much as I became so interested in what she was describing. I think it would be difficult to have this complex subject explained any more clearly.

    I watched whole other videos of u in this channel. at the beginning i just think it s kind of funny to watch (cute noises, and hillarius "call me mildred") but i feel sorry for u because of not control ur body and thinking in public places, people looking and not try to understanding ur situtaion. But then i saw ur tic attack, hurting urself and holding ur breath. i couldnt stop my tears. u re beautiful, stay strong.. Greetings for u and ur family from Turkey :) quick question; I wonder while u ve tic attack if someone holds u is it making better or worst?

      Most of the time if it’s a bad tic day, your are very tired and just manage to get to sleep without ticcing, but if you tic while trying to sleep it can take a while 🥸
