The attention seeking thing is a huge problem for a lot of young people, especially young women. Unfortunately the roots of medicine as it is now practiced are in the years of “hysteria” as a diagnosis and those unconscious biases haven’t been eradicated yet, not even close.
Re: UK vs USA, this is a problem in both countries (and also in Europe and Canada and likely nigh on everywhere else) but at least in the UK they don’t charge you for the privilege of being gaslighted about your body, and your income isn’t a barrier for getting to see appropriate specialists.

Omg, you beautiful person. This was so validating to hear someone talk about living with Tourettes. I've never been diagnosed but have had motor tics and throat tics for as long as I can remember. Growing up they always made things awkward. To hear you talk about your experiences and watch you tic as you do it, I just can't express how good it feels to watch it be acknowledged and at the same time ignored. As an adult in an office job, I always feel like I need to keep my tics under control and make them as unnoticeable as possible, so people won't think I'm weird.
On a side note, I am sorry your Tourettes involves coprolalia, and that you felt like you couldn't live until your very overdue diagnosis. I don't envy that form of Tourettes. My son has it as well, and he struggles with interpersonal relationships like you did. You seem like a fantastic role model for successfully navigating life with this condition.

As a neurologist and a young woman I find this interview endlessly fascinating. She’s so relatable and so well able to express her experience. The tics are so complex and, 2:47 min into the video, somehow super cute. I’ve seen a number of tics, some involving a risk of self-harm, and find her tics very endearing somehow. I hope it’s ok to express that here because I could never tell a patient her tics are cute, obviously! I didn’t think that adjective could be applied to complex tics…

I'm sorry ma'am, but I have tourettes and it's not cute. I wish people would stop saying it is, I'm sorry to say this, but it isn't a compliment and it doens't make me us feel better, only worse. Because it's really painful. It's not nice or cute to have no control of your body. I was and still do get mocked, scolded, shouted, joked about, and insulted by my very own family. This is isn't easy, so people saying it's "cute" is not... not really a good thing to hear.

I was diagnosed with it at around 7 or 8 years old and all I can say is that making friends and socializing is incredibly difficult. Every person I have met that has this disorder is the most kind hearted, understanding person you'll ever meet. I think that's because they've been so hurt and mistreated by people and don't want to inflict that on others and that doesn't just apply for Tourette's. Domi, my comment about how well spoken was more about the fact that she mentioned how shy and afraid of being social she was. Another ugly truth... So-called Doctors in the medical field were horrible people back in the day AND they still are, because mistreating children has not stopped or even lessened, so much so that the majority is incapable and/or is unwilling to face their and their parents and the majority's ugly truth.

Experience, especially painful ones, often make people more intelligent. It also heightens your senses giving you seemingly psychic abilities. It's the ptsd/paranoia. You see the movie split? What he said at the end after she shot him was spot on and it hit me hard. I realized I'm a lot stronger than I've ever given myself credit for. Most people haven't been through what I've been through. Just the thought of it brings them to tears and they have suicidal thoughts. These same People refer to us as broken, but I can tell you from experience, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. We all have stories don't we?
I'm sure you have yours as well.

Humanity is severely messed up, even young in-experienced children are seeing it. ? You make such claims instead of addressing what's harming innocent and helpless children? You realize harm but don't help stop it or even lessen it? Do you think you and the majority are not hurting innocent and helpless children right now?
Maybe I'll just fully contradict you by saying harms, especially ones that the majority don't see as harms, have damaged and are damaging and oppressed the majority. So much so that the majority can't or won't agree nor realize what harms are and entail; therefore perpetuate abusing and ruin innocent and helpless children.
