Please bear in mind that there is usually a buyer's premium added to the price, typically ranging from 5% to 12%. In some cases, this premium may be waived. Additionally, the bidding prices exclude a VAT of 15%.
For example, on a R100,000 bid, you would need to add the buyer's premium (12% of R100,000 = R12,000). The VAT is then calculated on the full amount (R112,000 + 15% = R128,800).
Moreover, there are administrative fees to consider, such as road fees or document fees, which can conservatively be estimated at another R2,000.
Therefore, the total cost for a R100,000 bid would be closer to R130,000.
It's important to understand the full costs before pursuing what seems like a good deal.
Additionally, these cars are sold "voetstoets" or "as is," meaning there is no warranty from the seller, even if you discover major problems with the car after purchase.
As a rule of thumb, I add 30% to the "bid price" to estimate the "real cost" if the buyer’s premium is 12%.
If the buyer's premium is 5%, I add 25%.
And if there is no buyer's premium, I simply add 15% for VAT.
You can use these rounded off figures to make quick calculations, even in your head if your maths is on point. 🤙🏾

I think firstly buyers should go through the terms & conditions, if lazy to read like me (lol) then be early as they normally go through these before auction starts. Good thing with Bidvest there in No Buyer's Commission.

It was crazy with the Audi Suv that came after the Ranger, no one bid till it was R120 000 going twice the someone bid and then someone fought till it got to R163😂😢
Crazy things happen at an auction lol. Maybe it was car dealers bidding for it.
Never compete with those. They are there to push the price higher.
It's not car dealers, it's guys from the auction placed in the crowd to up the prices a bit.
Happened in alot of auctions that I went too.

The additional 15% of vat and R 2500 for admin fees are a problem.
At the auction they give you a sheet to use as a guide. It will have all calculations (Bid Price + Admin Fee + VAT = Total Invoice - Deposit = Amount Due) so that you won't be shocked.
These prices just seem like normal used car prices at a dealer except you are buying voetstoets..great video Kodwa Danone

Auctions are now also dodgy... Why would you start high and then go lower. The original auction starts low and allows people to bid against each other until the highest offer. If you can't see the difference, it's for you...
I think they want to make as much as they can from a car hence they start at a higher price and they people will always negotiate down.

Hi Boyce, thanx for your comment. On my side I think people will be looking for the lowest price possible hence they wait. If you notice they always reduce the bid price as they wish. Yesterday a car had a starting bid price of R345 000 and it went all the way down to R300 000 still received No bid.

No, most cars are expensive here honestly. After they add Admin Fee of R2500 and Vat of 15% you might as well go to the dealership. The difference doesn't worth it.

Burchmores starting bids are too high . Not enough to incentivise customers considering everything is voetstoets. R390 for the clubman is insane, that's why it never sold, that and most of the high end items

I forgot the lot numbers but the red polo gti at 250k was good, bmw m135i at 170k, I don't know if the mini with red rooftop at 370 was a good price but it's a very nice car.

No they do not, you as the buyer has to find all that information and check the car 1st before buying it.

You would have bided for a car sent by Mercedes for example, so the Auction house will submit your bid to them. Its up to Mercedes to accept or reject the bid.

Best way is go onsite and register there. You will need to pay Deposit of R5000 for you to bid.
How do they determine market price
Am not sure of the exact formular they use, but they look at condition, supply & demand, depreciation, trade in value and how much dealerships sell it.

Hi there, once the harmer is down that's it you can't buy it. You wont be able to buy later. All cars sold on auction floor, you cant buy before or after.
What's the mileage on the 2019 Red CX-3? I think it's a good steal at around R120k - R125k

But worry not at the Auction you will have a list of with all the cars and their specs so you will know the car as it drives on to the floor.
I dislike how the auction house misleads people with retail value the retail value on that mustang with its kilo n year model is not 800k. It’s 585k. If you want to know a cars worth. People need to get a value book. Thats why peeps will buy a car and when they insure it for the highest value is not even close to the purchase price.
When it comes to Retail or Market value of the car, there are so many variables that come into play. I remember my 1st vehicle I bought for R39K and its market value on the insurance was R55K. I think as a potential buyer its good to check and compare with other sources.
I also thought That high mileage Mercedes-Benz ML market price was a bit inflated there.
