Finally a Jane Austen novel is adapted the way it's meant to be: as an absurd comedy, not a sappy romdrama.
The 2005 Pride and Prejudice is good too. Even though it's very beautiful, the humour is kept.
@@EscargoTouChaud no, 2005 pride and prejudice was all wrong. it was more like an adaptation of a bronte novel instead of an austen one. with people shouting their feelings in the rain or mist or whatever, etc etc..

I've actually heard an argument how viewers like it when they know what will happen in the movie so a lot of trailers are spoiler-y on purpose.

Best Emma adaptation ever made. This movie is so beautiful and charming.
Have you seen the one with Johnny Miller? I like that one very much. I find this version odd and bland. And the nude scene completely unnecessary.
@@rachelgrig9985 yes, I've seen them all (Clueless included lol), and I love them all. The 2009 BBC version was my favourite before seeing this one. Tbh I didn't find any scene unnecessary but loved every minute of it. I think this movie is the new and fresh take on Emma that was needed today.
I agree.
Can you tell me a bit about Emma? I've never heard of it before until now and I see many people talking about other versions of the movie so it seems pretty popular. Is it a classical british story?
@@Dani_1012 It's a novel by British novelist Jane Austen, written in 1815. Austen is probably most famous for Pride and Prejudice, perhaps you've seen adaptations of that one. All the Jane Austen books are classics and have been adapted into films and shows many times. Before this Emma, its most famous adaptations were a 1996 movie with Gwyneth Paltrow, a 1996 ITV TV movie and a 2009 BBC TV mini series. The movie Clueless is also a loose modern adaptation of Emma.
Anya’s gonna be the face of the new decade.
Like if Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, and Emma Stone were for 2010-2020, this 2021 onwards will be Anya’s.
How about Zendaya

Fun fact: Emma was the inspiration for Clueless! Which means this is going to be ICONIC
There's something about Emma's expressions throughout the trailer, particularly at 0:28 and 1:09, that are very reminiscent of Cher Horowitz. Even though Clueless was inspired by Emma, it seems as if Anya Taylor-Joy modeled her performance after Alicia Silverstone in terms of behaviors and nuances, if not dialogue.

Not Wes Anderson enough
Wrong color palette to be Wes Anderson, my dear
Needs a lot more symmetry to be Wes Anderson
This eerily looks like a Wes Anderson movie, so visually stunning. The costume designer too did a marvelous job.
Saif Mahmud Ishtiak Shushaan fuckall, it’s not because there are still plans and a pastel color palette that it’s Wes
Saif Mahmud Ishtiak Shushaan more barry lyndon style
It ain't bro. No weird close ups, No landscape shots in which actors are perfectly centred. The use of pastel colours is to give this movie a retro look.
just needs a little bit more of saturation then you're there.
I, too, was reminded of Wes Anderson, but in a bad way. There's a lack of feeling and true human emotion in Anderson's work and I felt the same way with this movie Emma.

I hope it won't be too much like The Favourite. While I did enjoy that movie, I feel like the writers and director will have to sacrifice a lot of the original (Emma) story's charm to accommodate the black comedy and underlying...darkness(?) that was so ever present in The Favourite.
I know Emma was supposed to be a social comedy of sorts, but I just hope it doesn't go as dark the Favourite.
The casting is good, but the most important thing is how they will tell the story.
Aye, aye. I hope they stay true to the characters and the relationships between them (maybe add some additional scenes with dear Miss Fairfax and Mr. Frank Churchill), though I'd wager they're taking some artistic liberties to the stories. Looks like they're adding some black humour?
@@jeahavvalentin980 you're embarassing
Lost in Austen season two
They always add sex or nudity for some reason and it's just way too explicit for the story, sometimes it's even completely made up in place of sex actually alluded to in the books (I'm not complaining about Colin Firth being shirtless but I am complaining about Billie Piper having erotic dreams in Northanger Abbey)
Yas
This is absolutely perfect. Jane Austen is undoubtedly applauding at this irreverent, offbeat, insouciant portrayal of one of her romantic tales around the rules of British aristocracy - it's just as she was intentionally doing at the time but in the perfect tone for OUR times. adore. can't wait to see.
I don't know much about Jane Austen but this movie was SOOOO good, I was laughing almost every moment. It's so different from Pride and Prejudice but kind belong in the same world as well. Makes me want to read the whole book.
i know this comment is a year old but i think you should do it! i just read the book and although it was slow at times, her writing is marvelous and (in my opinion) all the plot twists and resolutions more surprising and exciting in the book because of the sort of unreliable narrator situation of emma’s perspective!

Anything with Anya Joy-Taylor has to be good. Translation: I’m seeing this movie.
I didn't know I could fall in love with a trailer just as much as I love the movie, but whoever thought of doing it this way is pure *genius*
And the movie.. gosh this one was by far the best adaptation of this book because it captures its actual wittiness and charm. Emma is a love story, yes, but the best thing about the book was it wasn't centered *only* on that. It's Emma learning to step down on her high horse that she's unconsciously and unknowingly on, all throughout her mischiefs and meddling habit that soon backfired on her. It doesn't revolved around just romance, the love here includes every aspect whether its family, friends, or being compassionate to everyone.
Plus the aesthetics?? This is really one of the most beautiful films I've seen lately with all the pastel colors it abundantly gives.
This version was one of those rare moments where you didn't mind that Hollywood made yet another remake of a classic.
Very well said Miss ReeKi, however *off her high 🐎 would be much more correct 🙃 My favorite quote is this: “I rode through the rain! I'd ride through worse than that if I could just hear your voice telling me that I might, at least, have some chance to win you.” Dare I ask the same of you? 😉
This is only the trailer but I'm already _SOLD_
I'm quite optimistic about this. I won't sit here and nitpick details, but the general vibe seems fitting for the Emma that JA actually wrote. At the very least, I'm sure most of the cast will do their best.
Rose Diamonds I’m hopeful too!
Emma is my favourite Jane Austen novel. I don't think this Emma can surpass Romola Garai and Johnny Lee Miller''s version but I hope it will be just as good.
Gosh I didn't like that version at all, I didn't think it was a patch on the Gwyneth Paltrow version. Have you seen it?
I despised the Gweneth Paltrow version. She plays it so stilted. It was like she was concentrating on her accent over the acting. Definitely the Romala version is the best, followed by Kate Beckensdale. Kate's version needed a better Mr. Knightly.
But the Romala version is so historically inaccurate! The characters didn't behave as they would have at the time AT ALL. They were completely without the basic propriety or manners that the time demanded. They were just too modern.
My response here isn't aimed at you or your comment personally. Everyone has the undeniable right to like what they like. What bothers me is that the film got made that way at all. I truly believe that one either has to interpret Austen in context or adapt it entirely.
Any director who fails to do this destroys the integrity of the characters. -The audience can't appreciate the nuances of the story, the subtexts or the conflicts within each character at all if their behaviour is completely out of line with societal restrictions at the time. If a director wants to modernise the interpretation then it has to be put in a modern setting.
Gwyneth has Shakespearean training - she hardly needed to concentrate on her accent. Her portrayal was far more reserved but this was in line with the level of formality people lived in at that time. If Romala wanted to give his characters more freedom he should have moved the entire piece forwards in history. He should have set it in a time where it was socially acceptable to behave the way his characters did instead of at a time when it would have been shocking and vulgar behaviour that no one at all would have respected, even the most open minded.
It bothers me so much that modern interpretations rewrite history this way. It's like turning the novel into a comic strip.
@@justme9818 I agree totally with your comment. I watched a ITV news (RUclips) interview with the lead actress and the director of Emma . I was appalled by the interviewer accusation the movie was "rich and white".. What..! Accuracies to the time and manners of the regency period and above all the book are everything. To tamper with Austens work to suit a modern audience is like someone walking in to the Louvre in Paris and drawing a moustache and Ray Bans on the Mona Lisa...
