Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I have a Jazzmaster which I recently swapped pickups from Fender's Pure Vintage to Monty's Retro Winds, which I believe are basically the same as yours, just wound a little hotter (particularly the bridge pickup). BIG fan of them, wonderfully focused and not as bright as the old PVs. Glad to hear others enjoying Monty's wares!
Great series! I’m curious where you left off with your Jazzmaster. Did you do more mods? Did you sell it shortly after this series? I have the same guitar and love to see/hear what others do with them. Thanks!
Potentiometers are the biggest factor to the sound after the pickups (assuming we are in the same ballpark of guitar type using the same strings). JMs normally would have 1 meg pots. Yours may not have had because of the P90s.
The stock classic player jazzmaster pickups are 100% constructed as p90s with overwound coil, polepiece screws and alnico bar magnets. Yes I'm aware both pickups are single coil but the distinction in construction and tone needs to be made. They're not quite the same.

Good stuff mate, keep going
Excellent review 👍
Nice! I have the same guitar and looking to do the same thing. Noiseless pickups stock do sound great on high gain, but I do mostly clean stuff

the JMs that come with p90 still use 1meg pots
Hey Jonny! What's your plan now with the stock classic player pickups? Willing to sell them? I could have good use of them;)
Alright man, was thinking of hanging on to them just in case I re-sell - they usually go for more with the stock pickups in
Stock Jazzmaster pickups are not p90s, no matter how over wound they are. And p90s are single coil pickups.

Original Classic players DO NOT have jazzmaster pickups. They have P90s.
