Irene's physical comedy as 'Granny' on 'The Beverly Hillbillies' was remarkable. Many initially thought it was a young woman acting the part. As outstanding as Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett were in this area; Irene was the undisputed 'Queen of physical Comedy'. RIP to a wonderful actress.

I've been re-watching The Beverly Hillbillies and the two things that shock me is - 1) Irene Ryan is acting the hell out of that role and 2) The writing can actually be pretty witty, its a little forces at times but awfully clever.

THANK YOU, To WHOMEVER posted this. Just look at how beautiful little “granny” was. It’s hard to believe that the Beverly Hillbilly’s show only ran for 9yrs, and Irene Ryan (Granny) was only 60 when she played that role. She’d already been so successful in pretty much every other genre of entertainment at that time. She died just a few years after the show was canceled. But even though this clip is of her in her much younger years, you CAN NOT mistake that voice. THAT WAS TRULY ONE OF A KIND.
So again I say Thank you to whomever found this, and posted it. I think Irene Ryan will forever be “Granny”, and it will always make me smile.

That's the mark of a great actor or actress, being able to play any part convincingly.

I was hoping for a direct copy, but this is pretty decent for a video of a TV. Thank you for posting!

It's funny to see some of these actors and actresses when they were much younger than you knew them. I remember seeing Joan Blondell in the movie Grease when I was very young, and she was pretty old by then. Little did I know that Blondell had been a real hottie back in the 1930's and had even appeared in some "risque" films for that time before Hollywood implemented the Hayes Code.
And now, I'm not so young. Time marches on. LOL!

Irene Ryan was born in El Paso, Texas in 1902. You can hear a bit of her West Texas accent when she always speaks and that natural West Texas accent likely helped her naturally fit right being able to portray the Granny character 20 years later in Beverly Hillbillies. Many people picture her only as the much older Granny character but she was actually very attractive looking without the Granny make up and clothing when she was young.

definitely the most talented character on the beverly hillbillies -- my favorite on that all time classic show -- never knew until now that she was a talented vocalist -- a good one - and good looking - who knew ?

This is also the first time I've ever seen Irene Ryan do anything before Beverly Hillbillies. Mom used to say that she did other things before that, but I never knew what.
