Irene's physical comedy as 'Granny' on 'The Beverly Hillbillies' was remarkable. Many initially thought it was a young woman acting the part. As outstanding as Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett were in this area; Irene was the undisputed 'Queen of physical Comedy'. RIP to a wonderful actress.

Sometimes she sounds like Granny, but then sometimes she breaks out and you can tell how beautiful her voice really was. This is talent right here. The irony of how she acts while singing that song.
Irene Ryan was a marvelous actress, lending a real feel to the role of Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies. I can't imagine that show without her amazing wit and personality. Truly a remarkable soul. RIP, wonderful lady.
They did a Beverly Hillbillies movie in the 80s without both her and Max Baer JR. Needless to say it was a horrible pile of crap without either of them and tarnished the show’s legacy.

She was actually only 60 when she started playing on the Beverly Hillbillies. Her granny character was just that, pulling off playing someone much older.
Irene was a wonderful actress. She brought to the character of Daisy Mae Moses (Granny) the combination of cantankerous yet sensitive that made the character endearing and likable. She was the perfect choice for that role.
My Mother, who is now 92, claims that when she was a youngster- that Irene Ryan had a Radio Show called ToyTown Review, and that Ms. Ryan also was her first dance teacher. She always had a soft spot for the Beverly Hillbillies Show because that was her "Miss Ryan."
THANK YOU, To WHOMEVER posted this. Just look at how beautiful little “granny” was. It’s hard to believe that the Beverly Hillbilly’s show only ran for 9yrs, and Irene Ryan (Granny) was only 60 when she played that role. She’d already been so successful in pretty much every other genre of entertainment at that time. She died just a few years after the show was canceled. But even though this clip is of her in her much younger years, you CAN NOT mistake that voice. THAT WAS TRULY ONE OF A KIND. So again I say Thank you to whomever found this, and posted it. Irene and her husband, Tim were featured in "The Tim and Irene" radio show. Some episodes from 1932 and 1933 are known to have survived in collections.

Irene Ryan was born in El Paso, Texas in 1902. You can hear a bit of her West Texas accent when she always speaks and that natural West Texas accent likely helped her naturally fit right being able to portray the Granny character 20 years later in Beverly Hillbillies. Many people picture her only as the much older Granny character but she was actually very attractive looking without the Granny make up and clothing when she was young.
