      It's much much better than real trailers were back then. The art of trailer-making has come a long way (though the big studios still tend to suck at it)

      Il premio Oscar e l' Arte sono l' uno il contrario dell' altro. Raramente un
      grande film o una grande colonna
      sonora prendono l' oscar.
      Il cuoco, il ladro, sua moglie e
      l' amante è ancora il film più geniale che abbia visto eppure, quando uscì, la sala cinematografica era deserta.

      I loved it so much, i bought it. They don’t make good movies anymore. Audiences lack attention span, directors lack imagination, and studios afraid to take risks now. The result is something like fast food but for cinema

    • @joddle23
      @joddle23 Год назад +4

      @@sancho7863 you can still find some gems often released through smaller studios - but i've had to search hard! i agree that the vast majority of the best selling movies are, quite frankly, garbage because like you said studios are so risk averse they just recycle the same old ideas and even when there's a film with an interesting and original premise, they'll ruin things by trying to squeeze more movies out of it. what i loved most about this film was the contrast between the gorgeous set and beautiful soundtrack, and the shocking brutality of the plot. i was speechless when i finished the film for the first time

      The score is the best part of the film. It makes scenes that are already dramatic 100x more intense. It is a very hard film to watch because it is distressing but it makes the climax so much more satisfying.

    Recently saw this on the big screen at the BFi Southbank, they're doing a Peter Greenaway season to celebrate his 80th birthday.
    And what a brilliant film it is.
    Michael Gambon (The Thief) gives a stand-out performance as Albert Spica, the nastiest, crudest, most vile man you've ever encountered; Helen Mirren (The Wife) is elegance personified as his battered wife, while Richard Bohringer (The Cook) and Alan Howard (The Lover) complete the titular quartet.
    Greenaway's film projects a wonderful, almost stately grandeur and is filled with extraordinary detail, with the huge ornate set, the lavish Jean-Paul Gaultier costumes and Michael Nyman's majestic score all part of a sumptuous experience.
    It's arguably his finest work, and even though it was made in 1989, it still feels both fresh and modern.
    N.B. Look out for Tim Roth, Ciaran Hinds, Alex Kingston, Roger Lloyd-Pack and Ian Dury in supporting roles - not a bad cast !

    The movie changed my life. The metaphors about food. "and you know where that has been." I fell in love with Helen Mirren because of this movie. I thought she was great in Excalibur. This movie broke my heart and gave me hope. I was a young college kid, a hopeless, unattractive, no experience-having but romantic nerd, into art films at the time I saw it. Seeing a romance between a man and woman in their 30s-40s blew me away and gave me hope. True love is for everyone and could happen to anyone, at any time regardless of age.

    I can’t get over how perfectly this trailer captures this essence of the film almost better than the film itself-particularly how Fish Beach (the theme) syncs with the head waiters ceremoniously bringing out the dishes, Spica grabbing Georgina’s breasts at the dinner table, and the menus with the elemental seasonal garnish advertising to the elite, genteel clientele a sort of nature/culture reconciliation, returning back to nature but in the most sophisticated way imaginable. Then of course the ironic sophistication of “closed for a private event” with the restrained and austere single thyme sprig for the most barbarous thing.

    Only 1 scene needs to be Cut and Trimmed to get a Hard R for Streaming and Cable TV. The Shit Scene in the Beginning can't show Frontal Nudity, only his Butt, we'll crop it and show the Beginning of the Poop smear and then when he's being hosed off. You still know he got smeared in Shit. The rest of the Film remains Intact, Unedited and Uncut and the Blu-Ray and DVD will have both versions. Hope this helps, with the Full Poopie scene, it would be NC-17. The New R Rated Version, will practically be Uncut. On a Film with a Message with Artsy Nudity and Sexuality, no one is going to watch such a Film to get off. This is not Pornography. So, Hard R with Warning in the Beginning and the Scene trimmed with New MPA Guidelines. I believe that the New R Rated Version that's Practically Uncut, everyone will watch. 🤔 What a Criminally Underrated Masterpiece, better than Kubrick.
