El Superclásico is one of - if the THE biggest football rivalries, if not THE biggest rivalry in world football, pitting up Argentina’s two greatest teams in a classic football derby: River Plate vs Boca Juniors. Another interesting fact why this Super-Clasico is so historic is the fact that this is the last time that the Libertadores final will be determined by playing two games, one "home" and one "away" game.
The format will change next year to be like the Champions League final with one game played at a predetermined stadium.
It just makes this Super-Clasico even more important for these clubs.

I heard when i was a kid that River and Boca kinda had the same color outfit/ kit. They had a match for it, loser has to pick a new outfit/ kit. Boca lost and said that the next ship, arriving at the harbor, they would adopt their flag in to the new kit. It was a Swedish ship.

As a port worker himself, former club's president Juan Brichetto suggested to adopt the colors of the flag of the first ship he allowed to cross on the following morning. As the first ship that crossed the bridge was Swedish, Boca Juniors adopted the blue and yellow (gold) as institutional colors.[30] It is believed that it was the 4146-ton freighter "Drottning Sophia", a Swedish vessel sailing from Copenhagen, although other historians say that the Drottning Sophia did not arrived to Buenos Aires in 1907 but in 1905. In Australia any club with multicultural roots lost their rights to play in the national league. All the club's that replaced them were sterile franchises. It makes me so angry when you learn them most club's around the world have diverse roots but Australia was still pushing white Australia policy in the year 2000

The J in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, etc. is always pronounced as a Y. Not trying to be rude or anything, just pointing it out for future reference.

I think you didn´t mention an important fact of rivalry. River Plate likes lyrical passing game (paladar negro)football meanwhile Boca is only interested in winning, playing hard, takling and fighting.

Hence the earliest league titles being contested by teams like St Andrews and Old Caledonians. Gradually other British nations began to influence the sport but Alec Lamont and Alexander Watson Hutton are largely recognised as the grandfathers of football in Buenos Aires/Argentina.

Actually, the first "hincha" was from Uruguay, and he supported Nacional. At the very beginning of the 20th century (in the very 1900 if I'm not mistaken) he was the only spectator on the stands to shout and sing during the matches, encouraging the team to go forward. His actual job was to inflate the balls before the matches, and in Spanish "to inflate" translates into "hinchar", hence the names "hincha" and "hinchada".
By the way, Nacional-Peñarol is a fantastic rivalry to investigate

Hudson Derby is pretty young and other than arguement of geography, we're all mostly New Yorkers. Born, and bred in the city, we're gonna take issues on stands. Same way Yankees vs. Mets, Knicks now with the Nets being in our city. Rangers and Islanders, I would include Jets and Giants but they don't even play in the state, though they do represent the greater New York Metropolitan area (same way the NYRB do).

While visiting Argentina in 2006, I asked some locals about the River Plate colors. Their version was those colors were aquired during a friendly match in Peru. River Plate had been to poor (or forgot, don't remember) to bring their own kits. So they were allowed to borrow some of the Peruvian national teams kit. Since that day, they have used those colors as their own.
This is probably bullshit, but the design and colors of both teams do look similar.

River plate isn’t the translation for rio de la plata, although the English did think it was. But rio de la plata actually translates to the river of silver. The Spanish named it rio de la plata because they would ship the silver collected from the Spanish colonies through the rio de la plata to reach the Atlantic Ocean then the south coast of Spain
