Eight years after this tribute, Joe Cocker is STILL not in the Hall of Fame. A ridiculous oversight. People will be listening to Joe's music long after many of the inductees are forgotten.
Thank you Billy Joel! I'm a huge Joe Cocker fan. Always have been, always will. Joe is the only individual I know who got better as he aged!!! And I've always admired Billy Joel as a true musician!! Not entertainer but musician! Big difference people.
A fitting tribute to Joe. Billy obviously knew of Joe Cocker's illness and it was Billy's way of publicising it since joes illness was never made public. No one will ever replace Joe but billy does a great job at keeping joes spirit alive. RIP Joe cocker. A sad loss.
It was never made public because that’s how the family wanted it, they wanted their privacy and billy took it upon his own hands to publicly announce this
You do a great Joe Cocker tribute, Billy. Here I am 79 years old and a new Cocker fan. My kids listened to him in 70's and 80's. He definately got better with age. Thanks for posting it. 🎶 loved your music for years. Sing on Billy. 🎶💫💫🎶 Joe and Joel. Both legends!
Both genius musicians!!! In this Billy Joel performance, he masterfully imitates the voice of Joe Cocker. I closed my eyes and heard Joe... I opened it and saw my idol, Billy!
Joe Cocker was my godfather, I would like to thank you mr. johl for nominating him, as you know he has passed away now but hopefully his legacy will live on
Nick Wicked your god father was one of the greatest performers ever i heard a story bout him when he first came to the US that they thought he was a big black dude then blew away the ppl when this gangly white hippie walks into the room and introduces himself as Joe Cocker
A wonderful tribute from Billy Joel. Joe Cocker went through many testing times in his life but his voice always held him up with such great dignity. . . . RIP JOE YOU WERE A SPECIAL MAN
+greenblade3 Joe Cocker was a better singer than Ringo, but so what? I think there's a reason why they decided he should sing that song and not Lennon or McCartney. It's perfect in it's gawkiness and it wasn't intended to be a vocal masterpiece. And i love it for that very reason, because Ringo sings it.
+Aleka A. your more than welcome to like ringos version better but for me its not just the vocals this arrangement is far better and brings the best out of the song. plus big wonder years fan 😂😂
+greenblade3 Well, if it's about the arrangement then you should consider all the musicians included in the cover version. I think it's unfair to say that J. Cocker was the ONE man to make the song better than the original.
Most people don’t realize Billy Joel got his real start in the UK singing Joe Cocker songs with Joe’s original band, “The Grease Band” when Joe left the band to go solo. He never forgot!
Thats not according to Billy Joel You might want to listen to his interview before writing stuff like this. He actually was flopping in a show and sang two cocker songs and imitated cocker in those songs and the crowd reacted thinking cocker had shown up to sing. That in turn got record labels to thinking joel had performed great when in fact it was cockers songs and imitating him thta had caused the crowd reaction. I think you are writing rumor stories that people tell
Joe Franklin was a gentle giant in entertainment for seven decades. He outlived many of his peers and naysayers who resented his longevity. I appeared more than a dozen times on his TV show and when I died on January 2, 1980 (a faux obituary in the NEW YORK TIMES), Joe devoted his program to me with clips of prior interviews. Within minutes, his fans were calling the TV station to report the hoax. The producer switched immediately to an old Hoot Gibson western without any explanation from Joe, who remained befuddled, invisible and angry at me. But years later he apologized when I had dinner at his restaurant. RIP JF. Sincerely, Alan Abel
And Joe, RIP, is STILL not in the RRHOF! However NWA,, with their hit , "F%$K the Police" is. I got new hit: F^%K the RRHOF!" Long Live Joe, and God Blesss Billy Joel for recognizing the injustice.
***** This song stopped being a Beatles song when Joe did it at Woodstock. And it's his version of the song that's in the Grammy Hall of Fame. When Joe died, Paul said when he first heard Joe's version it was "mind-blowing" and that he thanked him for making it such a great soul song.
We I AM angry that you ever made our boys or girls feel like the only option was to give up their babies. It proves we did fail them as parents. Thank God we see our wrong doings. I can not stomach it. Jesus loves all of us. We have all screwed up. Up We Go. Please Lord with all my Heart.
I love Billy Joel so much for doing this. He really feels the heart and soul of Joe Cocker.
Did a great job on this classic!!!

You are exactly correct. I’m also 79. Still have a vinyl of mad dogs and English men purchased in in the 60’s

Meatloaf too!
Thank you Billy Joel! I'm a huge Joe Cocker fan. Always have been, always will. Joe is the only individual I know who got better as he aged!!! And I've always admired Billy Joel as a true musician!! Not entertainer but musician! Big difference people.
A musical genius, performing a tribute to a musical genius, of a song originally by musical geniuses.... fantastic!!! :D xx
A fitting tribute to Joe. Billy obviously knew of Joe Cocker's illness and it was Billy's way of publicising it since joes illness was never made public.

Can you imagine the amount of prayers that would have been happening had people known that Joe had cancer?
You do a great Joe Cocker tribute, Billy.

really he was your god father ? how did you know him ?
Nick Wicked your god father was one of the greatest performers ever i heard a story bout him when he first came to the US that they thought he was a big black dude then blew away the ppl when this gangly white hippie walks into the room and introduces himself as Joe Cocker
I'm sorry but "Mr. Johl" ? are you kidding?

A wonderful tribute from Billy Joel.
Joe Cocker went through many testing times in his life but his voice always held him up with such great dignity. . . . RIP JOE YOU WERE A SPECIAL MAN

"...is that the right key? ...doesn't really matter cause I'm awesome and whatever I play it in is the right key..."
It was a reference to a line in the song that Joe delivered in a way that could chill bones.
Technically Joe recorded it in A.... Billy is playing it in G here
Or just a question....
Great job Billy
MY FATHER BLESS YOU BILLY
Nice Cover
R.I.P.
Mr. Cocker
🎶 JOE 4EVER...🎶❤💥
Goooooood!
It is amazing that the song joe cocker is most known for is written by Paul McCartney
I think its because it was the way it was done. Its 10x better than the original and Paul McCartney amazed how well Joe covered it. He made it his own
Billy Joel did Joe Cocker impressions from the way back in the 70's.....
My husbands God father would really appreciate this a lot thank you Billy Joel
Should I get a sky box? Or an '89 IROC

All musicians agree about Joe cocker being in the rock and roll hall of fame... who decides ? He really needs to be entered . ..
Me parece una broma de mal gusto.!
love your music Joe rip
Billy sounds exactly like Joe.
Billy-Joe L.Cocker
probably my favorite song by him is "Woman to Woman" after i learned where the Dr. Dre beat came from tho..... (im younger)
And Joe, RIP, is STILL not in the RRHOF! However NWA,, with their hit , "F%$K the Police" is. I got new hit: F^%K the RRHOF!" Long Live Joe, and God Blesss Billy Joel for recognizing the injustice.
don't tell me that joe is not at the rock and roll of fame !!!!????
How is it a Joe Cocker tribute when it's a beatles song?
***** Because Joe made this song HIS song. Yes Beatles wrote it, but Joe sang the song, the way it deserved to be preformed :)
***** This song stopped being a Beatles song when Joe did it at Woodstock. And it's his version of the song that's in the Grammy Hall of Fame. When Joe died, Paul said when he first heard Joe's version it was "mind-blowing" and that he thanked him for making it such a great soul song.
Vyselink Stopped being a beatles song bullshit lol. I still think the original is a trillion times better.
***** You are in the minority on that one then. Cocker's version is considered the definitive version.
Vyselink Nope thank you, people know that the original is the best version :)
Tributes are fine
Mockery doesn't Work
LONG LIVE JOE - an amaaaaazing character
Mad Dogs and Englishman and Billy Joel
