@@rembo96 Sometimes having really low tunings creates a dope effect. For example in Leprous, the tuning is low, Einar's singing is really high, it creates a really nice contrast.
This song is perfect, so insanely beatiful, bass line is perfect, bring back those times =( And of course, thank you and other guys for this masterpiece.
I fell in love with this album after the first 15 seconds of "And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope". After seeing your videos I notice how incredibly important the bass is to the album, adds so much to it. I love when a band utilizes every instrument with such skill, a lot of bands in metal have the bassist in the background mimicking exactly what the guitars do but that's definitely not the case with your band. So happy I discovered you guys!
Spamming your vids comment section again man. Your voice is one of a kind. Fluent, fluid, recognizable, true. Love your work to the bone. You are a fucking legend.
Wow, a surprising amount of criticism in these posts, regardless of the mildly positive endings. A most gorgeous offering as an album, worthy of praise. This is a fine video showcasing a separated element of the whole, and giving a further visual insight to what developed the sound. This post should be met with only thanks. Well done, my friends, well done.
I've been listening to your playthroughs year after year, and somehow your playing keeps me from quitting playing bass. It always hits me to the core. Thank you.
So verry beautiful song... Cygnus, I very like you play, you're my favorite bassist plays on finger. This year, with my teacher bass, I would like play this song. Because, Ne Obliviscaris change my life... I want to see you on live ! Thanks you man, I hope you play on France or Switzerland one day... Ne Ob for ever
I admire your style, you are an inspiration. Thx for sharing, appart from being an excellent song, the bass in it is one of the greatest thing I've ever heard for this instrument. Regards from France, thanks again for making these awesome vids !
I'm a guitarist but watching your playthroughs makes me want to pick up a bass. Definitely buying the tab book for Portal of I. Will Citadel get a tab book soon?
all tabs are complete we are just working out the best method to distribute them. probably download guitar pro files. a book would be massive. forget not has over 600 bars haha
Wait... Wait so I tabbed this by ear.. FOR NOTHING?! Jk it really was fun learning all the parts (as I hear and see it, that is)! Thanks for being such an interesting bassist! 🤘🏽 I am curious about the tabs you have though. 👀
You know probably the only thing I didn't like about the new album is the end of Tapestry of the Starless Abstract. The bass at the end wasn't very clear though the song ended perfectly in the EP. I really hope to see more bass in the upcoming releases. Great video! \m/
Holy crap! Amazing bass lines man! Great song and great record. I let it play all night long when I go to sleep some times. Just freakin amazing. Really like your bridge. That is some great tone you have there. Jealous I am. Cant wait for the next record, and hope to see you guys someday in New York!
"Portal of I" 2xLP sold out within 52 minutes! There are 3 copies left of "The Aurora Veil" LP in each store (USA/EU). That record will never ever been repressed. Search for "Blood Music" if you wanna find em!
Hey Im a huge fan from NZ. Your music is so fucking beautiful man. When the tabs are out I'd happily cover the song with a band infront of our school to share this piece man. You guys are so fucking awesome, keep the good job up \m/
punching the mids and tuning to a different pitch in the same tuning as the guitars can make the bass pop out in a certain way like this, note choices as well.
This then leaves me a month to complete the tab in preparation for the official release. It will be awesome to compare what I have with what the band has.
I set out to tab it and that's what I'm going to do! It will be great to see how accurate my version is with the assistance of this video and the song itself. I have just under 500 bars atm, at 9:00 (there abouts) with the rest coming as I can find the time/motivation. Learning this song has made me a better bass player also, a seemless transition from 7 years of guitar into oh... 6 months of bass haha ;)
I've been transcribing this into GP5 and so far I'm half way done. Upon completion Cygnus, would you be willing to take a look and offer some assistance in areas where timing/time signatures and phrasing for some of the lines need work? Cheers man, I'll be seeing Ne O later thisevening at Fowlers =D
I've actually longed to see how you were playing 10:25 and onward ever since I listened to this song. Damn it sounds so good. I have a question ; how long have you been playing bass ?
I preferred the EP version of this song, I feel like the guitar became too... Mechanical, went for a technical/progressive direction. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just preferred the first version, the little imperfections made it feel more honest, which I think is more fitting for such an emotion-filled song Still love the band even though I'm not much into metal anymore though, that's saying something I guess :P Anyway, great video man I wish we'd see more and more prominent bassists
João Gabriel Playing you own songs, unless you rehearse them every single day, is actually really hard. Contrary to popular belief, just because you wrote the the song doesn't mean you memorise it perfectly.
Nicolas Arango we never rehearse this song. it's easy to remember all the parts. songs off Citadel are way harder. This is by far our easiest song. i would say Tryptic Lux is our hardest :)
+Ashutosh Müller Watch his playthrough of Painters of the Tempers; Curator is the third movement of that piece so it's in the last 5 minutes of the video
He's got two amps there - an Eden WP100 Navigator which is a pre-amp that I WANT, and a Fractal effects simulator which I also WANT. Might be a power amp below that too, I can't tell. But, basically, he has very good taste
all neo songs are in E standard
This is a sign of a good song. I am tired of all those DROP 10 TONES dirty sounds. All the best songs are in E or D :)

Even to this day your bass style is an inspiration to me. Wherever you are, however you are, keep on rocking dude.
the shift at 1:17 hits me emotionally and idk why lmao. its so good

The same for me.. I'm studying drums.. and Dan just blew my mind with the drums.

thanks for the kind words! just never stop practicing. i run up and down scales when i watch movies. that's an easy way to fit in 1-2 hours a night !

rip, i hope you got to see
this is one of the 1st albums that the bass really caught my ear, your bass parts are incredible man! my fav bassist for sure!
This is superb basswork. So creative...
Having just come back to playing bass and been trying to learn some of your songs has made me improve more than I have in years. Great basslines.
thanks so much! new material is coming along very strong!
It's sad that you're no longer with NeO
I feel the same way, but he made his own bed and has to lie in it.
that is insane skill. fantastic

Enjoy the tour, kick arse.
You nailed it dude
thanks so much for your kind words and support brother
This is insane! Carry on our brother....
I really dislike the part at 11:00.
the end of the song is fucking beautiful
This is fantastic. Love your work.
That bass tone gives me serious wood.

Awesome tone, clean and fatty, keep rockin' bro, greetings from Venezuela
so beautiful!
Pretty good - close enough to Neo's bassist
...
it's so close he even looks like him right?!!??!
Yes! ( damnit you saw my joke :'( haha )
wow dude this song is more than fucking amazing!!!! HAIL NE OBLIVISCARIS

Ok, i won't forget bass playthrough.
I thought it was fretless lol. Sounds so good!

J-Bass pickups have this signature effect.
Well i wish i could play like you :p awesome ideas awesome playing
Perfection!
dude! do one more bass footage like that! please! PLEASE
WE ARE NOT WORTHY!
That is a wicked guitar.
i need a bassist like you.

beautifull
It'd be so amazing if you wrote a bass tab book for this album!
This bass makes me cry
when release out a new album of the Ne Obliviscaris? it's amazing the work of all members, i'm anxious for the nex album :D
beautiful bassline, if possible pls do a plague playthrough!!!
When theses tabs will be available ? Can't wait for them!

Hey Cygnus! :D How about tabs ? Can't wait for it!
Really love the bass part at 2:19ish.
Please please please Cygnus, do a Petrichor playthrough!! D:
fucking love this.

Forgive my ignorance but I'm quite new to playing bass, Is there a name for the technique that you're using at around 8:37?
It is called 'tapping', not very surprising, is it? :)
What do you use for effects? This sounds great.
I've actually longed to see how you were playing 10:25 and onward ever since I listened to this song. Damn it sounds so good.
I have a question ; how long have you been playing bass ?
They definitely exist.
good smidging
Will you distribute tab for the acoustic guitar parts aswell?

13 years now, but only seriously about 9 i would say. i am probably better at guitar these days haha
TUNE?
beautiful! are there any tabs for this song? it would be an honor to try to cover this masterpiece!^^
+callejonjascha1994 I'm kind of late, but they just released a tab book for this album at neobliviscaris.bigcartel.com/
YES
This is great, beautiful song with beautiful lines played beautifully. What tuning is this in?
that's pretty influential sir
How the fuck TIm plays that live i have no idea, unless he's improvising, which would be still as impressive.
Nicolas Arango he said that is easy to play what he composed just by memory

cygnusbass Do you plan on doing playtrough like this one for the new album?
MetalleuPoilu yes definitely! in the works now
how did you got in such level ?
is it possible to play it on 4 string bass?
His bass sound and playing sounds like Quo Vadis :D
are there any plans for guitar playthroughs like these? and out of curiosity, have you considered playing a six string?
Awesome bass lines man! What bass is that? I can't recognise the brand. Really dig the tone of it. See you at the Espy next Saturday night!
Your bass playing is godly. You are officially one of my favorite bassists. I hope to be this good someday. ;_;
What about those official tabs? Where can we find them?

Yuu gave me goosebumps at 1:26 :D
Curator pls! Thank you and really great job! I tried to cover this thank you for the epicness
+Ashutosh Müller Watch his playthrough of Painters of the Tempers; Curator is the third movement of that piece so it's in the last 5 minutes of the video
ya watched it. amazing right?
Ashutosh Müller Definitely... I only found this band last week so I'm constantly getting blown away haha
the singer kills the song for me with that i-yi-yi-yi shit (starting around 5:45) . i love the rest of it though
trust me,you'll start to like it someday
What kind of bass strings do you use?
BTW your playing is amazing, it blows me away and makes me want to become a better musician. Thank you for inspiring me.
Just wondering, in addition to the tabs are you planning on releasing the notes for the violin parts in all the songs as well?
is it possible to fit it on 4 string ? :)
you can play the solo with only four strings : D
absolutely mind blowing. are there tabs by any chance?
Yep! If you go to their website they have a tab book available for $20
So does his strings go EADGB, or BEADG?
Pretty sure it's BEADG
J0ttem
yeah standard B tuning bro!
