    I agree with you verdict, but I have a small disagreement. I think you under evaluated Obi-Wan's Force defences. Evannova has some different perspectives in his Kenobi vs. Koon video. In most of the situations where Kenobi's force shields are penetrated, he was at less than his full strength, his opponents had a serious power-boost, or they were extremely powerful and had to use a lot of energy to punch through. Punching through his force-shields was not "punching through jello."
    I view the criticism against Kenobi's force-defences in the same light as Reti4's evaluations of Ashoka Tano's duelling track-record during the Clone Wars. In his Tano vs. Bultar Swan video, Reti4 noted that during her Padawan career, Ashoka was constantly duelling opponents who were several tiers higher than her, which limited the amount of experience and development she could gain from facing them. For someone to develop their skills in any art, profession, or competition, they have to face equals to truly develop solid, dependable foundations for their skills, approaches and techniques. For Kenobi, he is constantly facing some of the best duelists and most powerful combative Force-users of his era: Asajj Ventress, Count Dooku, Darth Maul, Darth Vader, and more. And to over-come his force shields, these individuals were either left considerably tired (Count Dooku on the Invisible Hand), needed a serious emotional boost (Ventress and Maul), be caught-up in the thrill and intensity of a fight (Maul on FLorrum when he pinned Kenobi to the wall of the tunnel), or be seriously weakened or surprised (Ventress and Darth Maul on Mandalore).
    Also, on Mustafar, Darth Vader did not even bother to use his combative Force-powers on Kenobi at all except when they force-locked each other. Jensaarai, you have noted before that it's just as important to consider how Jedi and Sith have not used the Force as much as how they have. Whenever someone has faced Kenobi, most with a strong familiarity with him, Force-Powers were either a surprise attack, a desperate attempt, or a last resort. Even Count Dooku, who used Force casually to overpower, cripple, or off-balance Ventress, Anakin and Opress, usually refrained from employing the Force against Obi-Wan whenever they faced during the Clone Wars (discounting the Geonosis duel, when Dooku could have overpowered Kenobi easily with telekinesis, but chose is lightsaber instead).
    However, I am not questioning your verdict in this match for their Force-abilities. Darth Malgus undoubtedly has a least as much raw power and skill with his combative Force powers as Count Dooku, likely more. He was different from his contemporaries during the Great Galactic War because he focused intensely on duelling, not solely battlefield engagements: taking time for individual duels rather than focusing on broader awareness and speed tactics to eliminate enemies quickly. He undoubtedly has more than enough power to cripple Kenobi with the Force wit the same ease that you have credited him with in this video.
    I do believe that Obi-Wan's Force-defences were seriously undervalued in this video. I still agree with the verdict of your comparison.
    -as a side note, Qui-Gon Jinn was noted to be a comparatively weak combative Force-user. Yet in his duels against Darth Maul, Xanatos, and Aura Sing, none of them even tried to use Force-Attacks against him. Now pre-bisection Darth Maul and Sing were dedicated lightsaber duelists, and were not strong combative Force-users out of preference. Yet, Xanatos was a calculating individual and almost a dirty-fighter, who focused on winning more than anything. During his duels with Qui-Gon he refrained from using the Force, relying solely on his lightsaber skills. Also, Qui-Gon was taught by Dooku, who is noted to be a strong Force-User in his own right. What's more, Qui-Gon's more passive Force-powers have been shown to be stronger than his decisive ones, which is why his Force-senses are strong but he drops his guard to use combative telekinesis. I believe that Qui-Gon had some strong Force-defences because even against an opponent who was intimately familiar with him, Xanatos refrained from using direct Force attacks. For such a strategic individual to avoid this option, it's likely out of necessity rather than complete arrogance. Xanatos loved to win, however he could, and when he couldn't escape, he chose to kill himself so Qui-Gon would still loose.
    Obi-Wan is Qui-Gon's student. I believe this is why his Force-shields are more likely to be stronger than average rather than weaker.

      +Geoffery Edgson You give a very compelling and interesting point of view that is well thought out and typed. Here are my personal thoughts about it. Kenobi has a strong active force shield but a very poor passive one. I believe in this video it was said that Kenobi is weak against physical attacks and force abilities because he puts everything into maintaining his great wall of china level defense. In TCW, Kenobi took a force push from Dooku (though Anakin was next to him at the time). If Kenobi is not in the middle of dueling, then I agree with you. But in the middle of an intense duel, Kenobi has a rather poor force shield (at least when compared to other tier 2's like Plo or Shak). Vader not using the force on Mustafar is because Anakin is rarely using the force, only as a blunt instrument or if the opponent does so. Kenobi knew this and only used the force when absolutely necessary. As for Dooku rarely doing this against him, I feel this is due to Dooku's poor stamina, believing he would use less energy when dueling due to form 2's economy of energy. But that's just my opinion on this so feel free to disagree.

    • @geoffreyedgson7875
      @geoffreyedgson7875 8 лет назад +1

      I enjoy debating different perspectives, so I'm typing this reply. You do provide a good point regarding Obi-Wan's force-defences in the heat and intensity of a duel. However, your examples are a little unreliable. Plo Koon has never be subject to Force-attacks before, neither from Asajj Ventress or Savage Opress. Also, the only showing of Shaak Tii's Force defences is against Galen Marek. She did use tutiminus to partially stop General Grievious' lightsaber blow; but during the Clone Wars her Force-defences were not tested anywhere near as often or intensively as Kenobi's were.
      Admittedly, she was able to cause Galen Marek, someone who's combative Force powers were stronger than their swordsmanship, to focus on manipulating their surroundings rather than attacking her directly or indirectly. However, this was after she had spent at least several minutes in deep meditation, enhancing her Force-related powers, clearing her mind, and becoming centred for the coming duel.
      Obi-Wan rarely, if ever, had this kind of lull to prepare himself for a duel with other Force-users.

    • @robgeorge4581
      @robgeorge4581 8 лет назад +1

      Geoffrey Edgson The reason I used Shak Ti and Plo Koon was because they posses similar levels of force power to Kenobi in order to identify what the "standard" was for force-defenses of his caliber. Shak Ti was able to contend against Anakin Skywalker in order to help Jedi escape the purge and contended with him. Though, sadly there is a lack of detail around that contest and Anakin is notorious for not using the force in combat that much. As for Plo Koon, the fact that Ventress did not use the force against him is indicative of Koon's defenses and she used her force abilities against skywalker in the microseries.

  • @jabbathehutt1888
    @jabbathehutt1888 6 лет назад +4

    I believe something was forgotten here. Obi Wans force shield was not “easy to punch through” Ventress pushed through who was an extremely deadly assassin. The point of her training was to be able to do this. And the same goes for maul and dooku who both were extremely gifted. Second Obi Wan could take an INHUMAN amount of punishment. For example when he and Alpha 17 were held in a camp, where Kenobis ability to call on the force was taken. He was starved and tortured by Sith methods literally constantly. His awareness of the area was good. Notice Anakin, possibly the strongest force user at the time, one of THE best light saber duellists. And Obi wan lured him right where he wanted. The mere fact Kenobi came out of that fight with all his limbs and little damage is a testament to this. I agree malgus was a stronger force user, and I think in terms of their physicality they should be equals or malgus gets a very small edge. Yes having a mountain dropped on you hurts, however remember Malgus was still in his 60s, using cybernetics, and had darth side wounding. Which I think would bring him up to kenobi who yes, isn’t as huge but can take close to or the same amount of damage. Size matters not. I also think kenobi would be a better saber duelist. He was used to fighting people bigger and stronger then himself, however malgus isn’t a lot different from a lot of brutes. Yes malgus had talent and fought smart but in my opinion. Kenobi fought smarter.

I love Obi-wan but I don't delude myself on what he can or can't do. Also they say he is cunning but it's his cleverness that wins out. I don't feel like they take his wits into account and that he is always thinking and planning on the fly. That is what ultimately made Obi-wan Kenobi who he is.

    In terms of edges, Malgus takes everything, being stronger, better in the Force and having a very well develloped style.
    But Obi-Wan's got the edge in terms of tactical application. Antoine and Jensaraai1, well done! This verdict will be a nailbiter

      Oh yeah I almost forgot. Darth Malgus has combat tunnel vision - only focusing on his opponent and not that aware of his environment, barely able to dodge an attack or doesn't use the environment to exploit another opportunity to attack his opponent. While Obi-Wan uses tactical ingenuity to look for places to lure his opponent to screw up or to tire them out.

      The problem with that idea is that Kenobi would have to find that environmental advantage before Malgus unleashes the dark beast within. Once Malgus uses the force, Kenobi’s a dead man walking.

    Though I personally agree with the verdict of the battle, I believe that Obi Wan should have got the edge as a martial artist. My reasons being that Obi's feats are simply more impressive. Yeah Malgus took down Ven Zallow, but Obi took down Grievous. I'd like to compare this fight to Darth Maul vs Qui Gon: Qui Gon being more of an experienced duelist, but Maul being more skilled. IMO, Kenobi could take down Malgus in a duel as quickly as he did with Grievous--Malgus's style is a hybridized form, but it is ultimately djem so at it's SIMPLEST form with elements of other forms and immense strength backing it up. Malgus's lack of sophistication is what would be key to Kenobi's victory as a duelist. As I said, I do agree with verdict as a whole,but you do need to consider the facts: "Malgus would be a terrible classroom instructor" Obi was a great instructor;he was instrumental to the blossoming of Luke Skywalker.

      +John Macs Lightsaber to the face generally isn't something you can come back from, though. Still think Obi-Wan would win, but only because he is fantastic at doing the biggest thing that always beats Malgus, but more through strategic thinking than through skill alone. It might even just come down to the battlefield and whether or not Obi-Wan can use the environment to his advantage, as he did with Vader and Mustafar's lava.

      The grenade that Jace Malcom held in his hand, while it exploded? If the force from that grenade couldn’t hurt Malcoms hand, I must conclude that the grenade in fact had very little explosive force to be considered an achievement to survive. The RPG earlier didn’t seem to cause much damage to Malgus armor either - they really need to get some better weapons, soft air gun graded weapons doesn’t cut it against the Sith!

    Obi-Wan was an Extremely Powerful Telekinesis, Mind Trick and Beast Control Wielder!
    He pushed General Grievous into the air
    Right before that Grievous battle, he caused a huge durasteel air vent to fall on a few droids, surprising them.
    Vader was very angry and using all his power on Mustafar, making this quite impressive for Kenobi
    During the clone wars, he force pushed most of his opponents: Pre Vizsla, a Death Watch Assassin, and General Grievous during their many battles. He even threw Grievous into the air, and then across the hallway in rapid succession.
    He can be seen lifting large stones (although Anakin was doing it too)
    He was great at the mind trick too, and was able to use Beast Abilities to tame Boga the lizard.

      Yes. However, Malgus was far too practical, so Juyo isn’t something he’d use. He’s not a hybrid of Bane and Vader, he’s just the Old Republic version of Vader.

    After watching this video I can't help but wonder...Would Malgus be able to fight people like Exar Kun and other dark lords? I'd think a fight between him and Darth Krayt would be an interesting video in it's own right.

    • @AntoineBandele

      Exar vs Krayt? I do plan on featuring Exar against someone else in a collab :-D

    • @sithmaster4305
      @sithmaster4305 9 лет назад +1

      Antoine Bandele That itself would be a good fight but I was thinking more of Kun/Krayt vs. Malgus. Krayt is Malgus's opposite in the future. He's a tank and he has extreme force abilities. I'd think he'd be a match for Malgus. And Kun is one of the premier sith lords of his era and he'd at least give Malgus a run for his money like Kenobi.

    • @DeusExMachina10001
      @DeusExMachina10001 9 лет назад

      Treize Khushrenada I think Kun would win against Malgus; he seems to be a slightly better swordsman and Malgus would have a very difficult time defending against Kun's more arcane Force abilities. It would be a seriously tough fight, but I think Kun would come out on top. Krayt, on the other hand, would get steamrolled by Malgus. Everything Krayt can do, Malgus can do better.

    • @sithmaster4305
      @sithmaster4305 9 лет назад +1

      DeusExMachina10001 I think you're seriously underrating Krayt. he has decades of experience. was trained by one of the very first sith lords ever. He fought with Luke Skywalker, was a general in the clone wars, he survived being tortured by the yuuzhan vong, ancient sith lords, and was able to become emperor of the sith. He has high skill in force lightning, and is skilled in various force powers. Malgus is strong and so is Krayt I'd think it'd be a slug fest for the ages.

    • @DeusExMachina10001
      @DeusExMachina10001 9 лет назад

      Treize Khushrenada Krayt isn't weak, but there isn't anything he can do that Malgus hasn't been shown to do better. He's got a lot of impressive feats to his name, but very few of them involve actually defeating opposing Force adepts. The strongest person he ever fought was Darth Wyyrlok, and he only won that duel by tricking Wyyrlok. Other than that, he has no significant dueling victories. He uses very basic telekinetic and Force lightning attacks in duels, notable only for the power behind them. While Malgus duels in a very similar fashion, he is a more overwhelming swordsman and Force user. It's akin to Vader's superiority over Plo Koon; they both fight in a very similar manner, but Vader is simply better at it.

      Personally I think Malgus is the best fighter, Bane and Plagueis may be the smartest and wisest considering bane put the plan in motion and Plagueis created Anakin, which was the final step of the plan. And the best sith of all time for me.. Darth Sidious. He managed to hide in plain site in front of the ENTIRE JEDI ORDER WHILE IN THE SAME ROOM. He was such a master manipulator it was scary, he turned a republic into an empire with the senate giving thunderous applause!!

      Well Malgus has really bad tactical tunnel vision which sucks on the battlefield, but in dueling this is rarely an issue. Force wielder wise, Malgus does not use Force Throw, Tutaminis, and other strong combative force abilities compared to the greatest. But that's all I could think of.

      Antoine Bandele In your Maul vs Malgus video, you suggested that Malgus was a practitioner of Djem so, did you and Jensaarai discuss this and disprove it or does Jensaarai not believe the same thing. From the swtor cinematic and his fight with Ven Zallow in The Jedi Temple, i agree with what you originally stated in the previous Malgus video. He uses more precise strikes rather than the chaotic blows typical to Juyo user. Love these videos, keep up the good work :D

    • @AntoineBandele

      justin reynolds I just disagree and left Malgus' dueling section to Jensaarai1. I still hold to the believe that Malgus was a Djem So practitioner. Obi used Ataru to defeat Maul before changing his style. Why would he change!? It worked!!! He proved in that moment that Qui Gon didn't have the swordmenship to handle a sith... Imagine if Obi had been trained by Windu! That would have harnessed his ability to feel rage, which is essentially what he did on Naboo. I feel like the only way I would join the Jedi would be under Windu. Everyone else is far too passive for my taste.

    • @AntoineBandele

      Antoine Bandele I was not aware of Mace's track record as a poor Master to his padawan. I only used that example because he is the best Vaapad using Jedi in the orders history. I feel like it is by far the best style. Utilizing the best of both sides of the force to defeat evil.

      Sidious > Obi-Wan.
      Obi-Wan woud last as long as Fisto but not as long as Mace.
      Yoda > Anakin.
      Anakin had trouble following the speed of Sidious' blade when he fought Mace. Sidious and Yoda's speed are comparable. Yoda would outmaneuver Anakin and defeat him.
