    Watching Ip Man vs the Japanese general after this fight has a massive contrast. In the final fight of Ip Man 1, you can sense his speed and power is on a whole other level compared to this scene, the film crew has done this on purpose to really show the audience that what we see here is an old man with terminal illness who's way past his prime. Felt kinda sad that time spares no one.

      Not only that ipman was heavily weakened he was suffering in cancer and he was elderly old and having a weaker bone/physique which explains why his weaker and slower then he was before he also had a broken hand before this fight Barton geddes knew and took advantage of it aswell he was also fighting dirty giving him the upper hand but even all that ipman manage to beat Barton when he rolled up his sleeves as he started getting more serious, It seems like ipman in his prime would beat Barton faster and shorter if he was in his best or at his normal state.

    I loved the way Ip Man never used his most brutal attack throughout the movies (the throat punch) this is the only time he ever used it throughout the series, really shows what was at stake and how much anger he was holding

    • @jasonlee148
      @jasonlee148 10 месяцев назад +89

      I think it's more that he knew he couldn't win without using them now that he's older and doesn't have as much physical strength to fk up his opponent by usual means.

    • @MotivationExceeds
      @MotivationExceeds 9 месяцев назад +53

      It's not exactly because of the anger. Despite being brutally beat down he still was collected. His opponent wasn't holding back at all, as if it was life or death situation. Ip Man just taught him a lesson that being peaceful doesn't exactly mean being harmless(well, he was doing that whole series).

      @0:38- 0:43 You see right here. That’s REAL WING CHUN! Ip man moving forward, intercepting, simultaneously attacking and defending, followed up with a swift punch to the solar plexus of the general before the kick.
      The entire fight is stylised but that moment demonstrates CLEAN Wing Chun. Excellent use of chi-sau, centre line, technique with the fist. There are these moments throughout the franchise where IP man demonstrates actual wing chun as opposed to techniques used for gratification. Real wing chun is not standing still like a dummy, waiting for your opponent to attack. Real wing chun is feeling the energy, flowing with it deflecting the energy by moving forward, closing the distance, attacking the centre line. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. This is the philosophy and fundamental core principle of wing chun. This moment flawlessly encapsulates the concept of wing chun.

    • @VigilantAnarchism
      @VigilantAnarchism 9 месяцев назад +6

      @@spectator4786There’s a few that haven’t cut those things out. Like the Moy Yat lineage of Wing Chun; which was succeeded by Miguel Hernandez in NY. Moy Yat was one of Yip Man’s last disciples and stayed with him for a considerable amount of time, I want to say until his passing, but don’t quote me. But the same with Miguel with regards to Moy Yat. He stayed with him until his passing. Far as I’m concerned, they’re from the few who have kept Wing Chun as it should be. So there is an emphasis on footwork, cardio (and overall physical fitness) and so forth.

      For the 2nd movie, the trigger was the death of Master Hung by Twister.
      For the 3rd movie, the trigger was getting his son involved though Frank was honorable because Frank is against children trafficking, meaning it was Frank who got triggered instead.

    Based on my vision, the Gunnery Seargent got defeated not because of malice and anger, but because of pure love and mercy. I mean, think about it. Ip Man would have easily annihilate Barton Geddes if he went full power and didn't had any hesitation to kill. But again, he makes it clear that nothing would go better if he had murdered him. So instead, Ip Man decided to do something that not too many people would ever done and that is by sparing his life and simply just crippled Geddes to teach him a very harsh lesson.

    • @klockenberg2299
      @klockenberg2299 Год назад +1

      Bruh wtf why "going full power" and "no hesitation to kill" means he'd instakill? Intention to kill would mean that he keeps attacking him while crippled to kill. But he gotta need to defeat him first before killing him or sparing him. And it'd be hard fought.
