Donnie Yen, who'd co-acted with Wu Jing (aka Jacky Wu) in 'Kill Zone', both came from martial arts families. Donnie's mother Mark Bow-sim is a martial arts grandmaster & has a martial arts training school in the US. As small kids, Donnie & his sister Chris Yen learnt martial arts from their mother. Bow-sim is now semi-retired & her daughter Chris & a senior disciple took over the training. Donnie's parents sent him to train with the world-renowned Beijing Wushu Team when he was 16, where he met Jet Li who also trained there. After that, he went to Hong Kong & trained under Yuen Woo-ping who's the eldest son of the late Yuen Siu-tien. Siu-tien was one of the top 10 greatest martial artists of his time. Jackie Chan catapulted to international fame after co-acting with Siu-tien in the 1978 classic movie 'Drunken Master' which was directed by Woo-ping. Woo-ping was also involved in some Hollywood productions in which he choreographed the fight scenes.

Surely Donnie has portrayed Ip Man better than anyone and it is an absolute pleasure to watch him do what he does. Every fight scene is just a pure gem. Never gets old or boring. But in this scene, I would like to say that when Xiaofei Zhou enters the pit, it gives me the chills. They should have given her more time and kicking ass a lot more before she goes down. She is so charismatic on screen. She is indeed a phenomenal martial artist in real life and a national champion.

Easily one of my favorite martial arts franchises and this is the scene I watch the most.
A powerful bad guy showcasing a perfect blend of disrespect (challenging on someone’s home turf) and respect (warning the older master and woman that they might get hurt).
Best of all, the bad guy has bone-crushing power coupled with great speed and great skill. For myself, ‘Colin’ was as fun to watch as Ivan Drago and Bolo’s Chong Li. Nothing is better than a villain with terrifying power. Masterful scene!

I am no Chinese and I am not a martial artist but this scene portrays different fighting styles. The first 2 Chinese Fighters shows fighing style with so much wasted movements. Too much style that causes delay in effective strikes and defense. The Lady Chinese shows fighting style with speed and less wasted movements but her power is not enough to land an effective strike to the opponent. IP man however, shows I think the Wing Chun kind of style. No wasted movements, combination of both offense and defense kind of fighting style. Less efforts but speedy accurate strikes with maximum results.
