I'd say DEH actually is more part of the high school musical genre than BMC. I'm obsessed with BMC but it's not really about high school itself as much as say, Heathers or DEH.
Mean girls says “me too buddy”.
Is it weird that my favorite musicals are Heathers, Mean Girls, Be More Chill, and Dear Even Hanson? (and Hamilton) I think I found my favorite type of musicals. I was hurt when she said that (HOW COULD YOU FORGET DEH AND MEAN GIRLS)

QOTD: Spongebob the Musical. It's not really underrated but it's considered juvenile because it's...well... Spongebob. It really pops off but a lot of my theatre friends avoid it, despite my endless reccommendations lol
I watched Spongebob on the recommendation of my students & was pleasantly surprised
I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but I listened to about half and I have seen a few videos about why it deserves to be taken seriously. so far I really enjoy the music, and the set design is incredible.
I’d have to say it is underrated because a lot of people don’t even want to give it a chance because like you said, people assume it’s juvenile.
The sponge bob musical had no right to be as good as it is but when ever I want to listen to something that is unapologetically happy and up beat I’ll listen to it
I agree, this show is really underrated. As soon as I listened to the cast recording and watched the television event on Nick, I immediately fell in love with the show. Everything in it is near perfect(scenic design, songs, characters, etc.). I would love for Kat to do a video on Spongebob the Musical because of how underrated the show it is. It deserves to be more recognized as much as the other popular shows.

Great Comet never gets enough attention because it was on Broadway for such a short time, and when people do talk about it, they always talk about the scandal at the end, not about the beautiful story and music. I saw it twice, and it still remains one of my absolute favorite shows of the decade.

Have you checked out Ghost Quartet? It’s another show by Dave Malloy, and the music is in a similar style, and it’s AMAZING. All of the lack of rhymes, the unusual rhythms, and Britain is in it!

Qotd: Elisabeth!!!! It's a German musical about empress sisi. It's dark gothic and romantic and this show is pretty huge in Europe and I wish they made a Broadway production of it.
Edit: there are a lot of proshots and bootlegs of the show on RUclips, however most of them are not in English but some of them have subtitles!

35MM and lysistrata jones are some of my favorite underrated musicals! even though it’s gaining a lot more traction because of netflix, i still feel like the prom was pretty overlooked before any of that, and it’s a great musical with a message that made me feel seen.

I really wish more people knew about Bare: A pop opera. It’s literally the sweetest but saddest, most complex yet simple musical I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even get halfway through without totally falling in love with all (well most) of the characters and the story is just so capturing I’m so surprised it didn’t make Broadway.

Very much in the high-school musical genre, except it's about kids turning... you guessed it... *thirteen.* You might've seen some songs on tiktok, you may know it as BOTH ARIANA GRANDE'S AND ELIZABETH GILLIES'S DEBUTS
Songs like "Hey Kendra" and "Bad News" are laugh-out-loud funny, "Terminal Illness" and "Any Minute" are hilarious when you watch them, "Tell Her" and "A Little More Homework" are such happy feel-good songs, "Thirteen" and "Brand New You" absolutely slap, and there are some great audition pieces throughout the show for almost young-adult role you can think of
I would love to see a part 2 on this topic.
The one musical I wish more people know about is "Tick Tick Boom."

Oh my god, I literally jumped when you mentioned Carrie. I absolutely love that show, it’s songs and it’s story are magical! As much as I take joy in people reacting surprisingly when I tell them there’s a Carrie musical, I do wish more people knew about it. It’s incredible.
I loooove Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, though I only listened to it after I saw the Wait in the Wings video on it - I love the dark humour and cynicism, and they got the emo music and visual style down so perfectly in a way you wouldn't expect to work with US history but it really does, and I wonder what a revival would be like

Mame is one of my faves. Dream role for me is Agnes Gooch. So fun.
Everybody’s Taking About Jamie has a Legally Blonde feeling to the music too. Also very emotional moments but such fun dance songs
I would love for Come From Away to become more well known! It is such an emotional rollercoaster, from somber to hilarious in the span of a chorus! More folks should experience it! Also, the way they use minimal stage props and cast, and keep rearranging a bunch of chairs as the predominant set pieces while playing multiple people is really fun to watch!
Edit: With next year being the 20th anniversary of 9/11, it is also the perfect time for the show to be more relevant!

One musical I would love to see you talk about is Rag Dolly/Raggedy Ann on Broadway! It's not well known because well, for a while, it was considered lost media! The show closed after FIVE DAYS due to complaints about the dark themes not being suitable for children. We're talking death and su*cide dark. A cast album was never released and all we have is a bootleg and a demo recording, but the history behind the show is incredibly interesting!
It was original created as part of a culture exchange program headed by Patricia Snyder between the US and Russia. The original cast even did a tour in Moscow before Broadway where they sang in both English AND Russian. Besides Patricia there were a handful of big names attached to the flop, including Sesame Street composer Joe Raposo and writer William Gibson of Miracle Worker fame.

Yeah!! The show lasted only 5 performances on broadway. It's considered one of the biggest broadway flops! I think it would be a great video topic!!

It’s a musical all about Vincent Van Gogh and his life. It’s so good and touching. If you are a fan of classical paintings and art history I would definitely recommend it!!
