    I started using Blender in 2015. Here is my progress so far. Strangely enough, I never did the donut tutorial series, but I did do a fair amount of Andrew Price tutorials.
    I think when learning blender it's easy to see a lot of progress really quickly because there are so many basics to learn. After that, progress for me has been creeping up slowly and every once in awhile I get a jump in quality. I definitely have a lot to learn, but at least I feel like it's getting better.
    Obviously I wish I found 3D art at a much earlier age, but I always assumed 3d programs were so expensive.
    Check out blender at blender.org it's a great 3d software package, whether you just want to learn a little or start a career.

      @@MarvelousMediaEngine I believe in "Learnings being a lifetime process." Never think you're old for learning something new. You have the choice now to be what you want to be 10 years from now. Along your journey, you'll have ups and downs. You'll have moments where you question if it's even worth the effort. But when this happens, have a break, then get up and continue your journey.

      @@i3aluchi That's a good perspective about 10 years from now. I've heard something similar like, the best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, but if you can't do that, the second best time is to plant one now. I probably butchered that idea, but it's good to keep in mind, you have the choice now. Thanks!

    This is awesome man, I turned 27 this past March and recently rediscovered my love for environmental and 3D art/animation, I don't want to keep doing what I'm currently doing for the rest of my life but I'm scared/nervous to jump in and start learning as I've had zero experience in the field or art as a whole.

      27 is young. I’m from England. In England people go to uni at 18 and three years later graduate and get a job. You are might brighter and more focused at 27. If you made 3D art your focus, within a few years you could get your ability to the point that you were able to apply it to a career. Everyone has to start somewhere so don’t put it off out of fear or a lack of confidence because if you really don’t want to be doing what you are doing, life is too short to waste on things that don’t make you happy or fulfilled.

      Good question. I have wife and kids so when I started I would spend about 1.5-2 hours a day (before work) doing projects or watching tutorials. In the beginning there was always something to learn so every morning was something useful and I filled the time really well. Nowadays I can commit more time to it, but progress is really slow. I probably spend 3 hours per day minimum on projects, but not much of the time am I learning, if that makes sense

      I teach part time at a university (1 class so it isn't too much work). Slowly I am doing more and more animation work for a living. Some of the work is coming from the university from other teachers who need an animation for their course (usually science). It's easy for your name to get around in a smaller town. The area I'm in has about 100k people and there isn't really anybody else doing computer animation. We'll see, though. I feel like I am only just starting to get some good momentum.

      It could be worse. At least we know what we like, that's probably the biggest battle. I see some people just out of highschool really struggling right now. I think uncertainty about the future makes it even harder for younger adults to commit to something because they rightfully assume it won't matter in 5 years. But if you never do anything, you never go anywhere so it's a pretty rough head space to be. I'm just guessing though.

      I think it's more accurate to say, I learned two more softwares, but 90% of my work is done in blender to this day. If I really need simulated clothes, I will send them from Marvelous Designer to Blender. Or if I need some type of simulated explosion or fluid, I find Houdini is pretty good. But I do all modeling and rendering with blender because it's fast and easy.

    This is all what bro did for 7 years? Really? I'm disappointed, like seriously. There are progression vids with the most impressive stuff done in a year or 2 but this dude was doing 3D for 7 YEARS. Dawg.

    • @MarvelousMediaEngine
      @MarvelousMediaEngine  4 месяца назад

      Maybe you're right, but maybe not. A lot of those vids that show amazing progress in 2 years seem to focus on a few tricks, for example cars driving on roads that look incredible. A lot of those people just download an amazing 3d car model and then animate it. I don't mean to detract from their skills though, I'm just saying I've aimed to be a jack of all trades, so I can also model a decent car, too. HOWEVER, perhaps you are right, those who focus with intention in one area can go much further and it's actually something I am struggling with. I can do a ton of different things, but nothing at an amazing level. For example, check out my Barbie Ken video linked below. On the one hand, it's way cooler than what most blender artist make, but on the other, it lacks the refinement: ruclips.net/video/KZENoMTjxgA/видео.html
      Thanks for the hard truth though

    • @emotedeeeznuts
      @emotedeeeznuts 4 месяца назад

      @@MarvelousMediaEngine Listen man I'm sorry if I came out as harsh n stuff like that, you may be right and I may be wrong, especially with the car driving on road example because some of those 3D artists don't tell us if they actually modelled the cars by themselves and whatnot, but the rendering, lighting, animation, composition etc in those videos are superb, and those things are a few of the biggest factors needed for 3D. But dude, the difference is, you've been at it for 7 years, that's what surprises me. I'm just some random dude on the internet but I honestly kind of expected like some really high-quality stuff from a dude who invested 7 years in 3D, but everyone is different I suppose. I'm going to be investing in 3D hopefully in the near future, but I'll keep in mind to actually make my own stuff and if I ever use any from Sketchfab and whatnot, I'll tell people exactly where I got my models from. I wanna indulge in all areas too so yeah, I understand your point. BUT You can't do everything all at once. Focus on one area that you actually love the most and get better at it. THEN go onto another area. You gotta fix that mindset.
      Also, I saw the barbie vid. Now THAT, is the kind of quality I expected in like 2-3 years of Blender/3D. Good shit fam. Loved the models.
