Love the feeder with a plan for type of feeders and seed. Awesome advice. Also set up my camera on a tripod pointing at the feeder, with composition in mind, sit on my screened in lanai with a remote shutter release.
All great advice Brent. Looks like you have a wonderful garden to put everything into action, looks like I might need to move house first lol. The point on backgrounds is so important I think that’s what makes or breaks an image. Cheers Keith
Thanks Keith, I appreciate that!
A lot of great tips! I'm so jealous you have a Thrasher hanging out like that in the open. The ones in my area prefer to skulk in the thick brush. I've yet to get a good photo of one 😅 Awesome vid and photos, I especially liked the Towhee!
Hey thanks man, I appreciate the kind words! And don't worry, that thrasher does plenty of skulking in the bushes, lol.
I had a brown thrasher the last two years nest right near my deck and haven't gotten a good shot of it either! Still on the prowl... 😬
Great video! Question: You said you put on an nd filter because it got very bright. Why not just use a higher ss? Wouldn’t an nd filter make the ss slower?
Yeah, I meant to film the video. For video you want a shutter speed of around 1/50 sec.
Great video thanks for sharing!
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
I like your style Brent however showing a bit of the environment can be an advantage, My biggest t problem is attracting the right kind of birds, Sparrows get boring.
I love your videos about bird photography. Its so comprehensive. I would like to ask you something about lens? Is a lens like sony 70-350 mm be good for bird photography? I am considering it because of it being a light weight and so easy to carry around as I am a hobbyist and not a pro, and mostly shoot in my neighborhood; Or it's focal length will pose limitations? I'll be moving from bridge camera to interchangeable lens camera (to an APS-C camera). I was using canon SX50 for years.
Thanks man, I'm glad my videos are helping! If that's all you have, or will have, then yeah, it'll work. You'll want to shoot in a lot of light though, since that lens is pretty slow in terms of it's aperture. You might also look into something like a tamron 100-400. It's a bit more expensive, but it's way better in every way. Don't let gear consume you or stop you from going out and shooting, just get what you can and make the most of it.
@@BrentHall I dont have this lens, as I am going to purchase an APS-C camera body and a telephoto lens this month. (I have started feeling constrained because of small sensor size of canon SX-50, it doesn't give that much clarity to image which I require). Tamron and Sigma high focal length lenses are really tempting, but I am not sure about holding those heavy lenses on my hand for long time.
Thanks for your help. Kindly also suggest best mirrorless camera (body) for bird photography under $1,000 budget.
The only mirrorless cameras I've used are the EOS R and RP. The RP is under $1K, and I've made videos about both of them for wildlife.
Sir which camera and lance
Great video!
The only hobby where you’re encouraged to “shoot em in the Face!”
