Love the tips . Wish I had your backyard . It looks like a small oasis . I like also how your camouflage grew from a simple net over camera to a curtian camouflage. 😆
Really love your videos it's better than watching telly. It's always good to add a bit of humour, I crack myself up laughing.I could watch them for hours in fact that's what I do. Keep them coming your doing a great job.
Really enjoy your video productions, Simon. I'm at an age now where I do more garden photography and find it rewarding. So, I'm always looking for tips like yours.
Lovely video and a very personal touch with patient instruction for beginners. I get a mass amounts of birds where I live but they are hard to photograph! I ordered a hide that is used for hunting...very cool like a pop up tent....plus the fabric draping, comes this week. That way I can go out in rain and snow also. I really like the perch you used...I will be setting those up also. I literally walk out back and start shooting the resident Bald Eagles, gulls, even grey heron fly past...Osprey and all the little land birds. I live on a private island so the bird population is the highest in our state for its size. I just need to get hidden as they are pretty elusive. With an open water view, its very cool to see all I could photograph. The whales were fun but hoping to get the larger zoom I need by months end, That will put my photos where I want them. My gear is the issue without a great zoom lens, My 70mm to 300mm is not far enough.
Sounds like an amazing place where you live!!So many subjects eh. You definitely need to consider a longer lens, it'll open up a whole new world of photographic opportunities.
@@simoneardley Its is amazing! We live on the top of a private island in WA state. Only owners or invited people can come. We have a modest solid wood cabin home with a 180 degree open water view with incredible sunsets also. I just found a used 200mm to 500mm zoom lens and bought it online from Adorama with a warranty. Will have it this week! Got a great bargain with a tiny flaw I can fix!! Looks like that is going to change everything! I took pics of an Osprey taking off in flight with a baby osprey poking his head out in the nest beside him! I got flying grey herons today, sea gulls and I got pics of the Super Yacht that was owned by an Obligarth in the local waters as its under repair before selling...Wish the zoom lens was here but the pics came out pretty good with the gear I have!
How you have only 6.35k subs is beyond me,! I follow lots of photographers on here, & none give as many hints & tips, Im new to vloging but not so much Wildlife photography, & still learn each time i watch a video, this has inspired me to set up a patch behind my shed ! & i cant wait for Macro insects to start v soon, Ta Simon
Hi Simon. Just discovered your channel and love it because at last I can learn from a vlogging wildlife photographer who uses the same type of kit as myself - a crop sensor camera (mine is a Sony A77ii) and a 150-600 zoom (Tamron G02). None of your re-mortgage needing f4/600mm stuff stuck on the front of £4k's worth of full frame body !!! Keep up the good work; I'm looking forward to more.
Thanks Alasdair, yeh the gear ive got didnt break the bank but if you use it correctly and use good fieldcraft you can get some great images. I'd love to try a big F4 at some point but for now we'll stick to my "old faithful" Sigma. All the best
Nice one Simon entertaining video. Probably December to March would be a good time to get more images when their food is hard to hard to come by. You still got some lovely images. Get that Bar open and stay safe and well.
I'm in... Brilliant hide and well done. Love watching your vlogs keep up the good work, it can't be easy while working full time. Wildlife is my favourite to watch thank you. 👍
@@simoneardley my husband has WON your prize draw. We were siting here in disbelief, so happy thank you. 👍 Love the film too, how amazing they sat on that fishing rod so cool.
Great stuff Fella love your videos just started shooting birds in the garden as with most people staying at home for the obvious reasons a pal and I have a bit of friendly rivalry as to what we can get We just this weekend set up a reflection pool ( a log tray really) it worked great
Super job Simon...Im moving into a new house in the next few months so I will be getting the feeders up asap to see what we got coming in. I want to change what I do in my current garden as I get a lot of birds in all round the feeders, but its difficult to isolate 'the' shot as I haven't been making the perch from cut branches as you describe. So when we go, Im going to. My question is though, should I keep my photo area separate from my general feeding area? The reason I ask is that I will have 3 separate areas - an orchard, small but surrounded by trees with brambles etc, the nice garden area in front of the house where we can watch the birds from the house too, and then a small wooded area behind on a slope..so Ive got loads of options. Im thinking the orchard area, which is across the lane, to be set like your hide area, with various perches, but smaller obviously, where I can set up perches and change them accordingly. Then in the garden, a nicer looking feeder set up but not for photos necessarily. Then behind in the wood, perhaps a hide for possible fox and deer? Im waffling now as Im so excited! 53 years old and you've got me like a small child with all my Xmases rolled into one! Cheers
Sounds like youre going to be a busy man Jeremy!! Lucky man eh having so many options. Firstly I'd be weighing up the position of the rising and setting sun, looking at cover, where shadows are likely to be cast and other similar considerations and then moving the feeders accordingly. I'd probably limit my photo areas to one area in particular otherwise you can end up having the birds too spread out. You need to try and isolate them to one area really . Hope this helps👍🏼📷
Hey Simon! Great video and tips. I enjoy shootin' stills and video in my yard as well. I just put up a new video of my backyard Squirrels at our peanut feeder... it was great fun! Looking forward to your next one! Sayin' hey.... Greg

Where did you get your camo net from? Also do you post your picture anywhere on social media.
Hi Ben, the camo net came from Military Mart at Ormskirk. They trade online and have a great store. I tend to post on Instagram and Facebook.
