Engine fitted is a 1.7TD ISUZU Vauxhall astra engine, mated to a vauxhall carlton gearbox as they was all rear wheel drive, it was the 2.0 box and astra clutch + flywheel. Hope you enjoyed watching it.
failing to prepare, is preparing to fail, looks like a well prepared suzuki, sweet video, i own a landrover and was still impressed, does mess em up a bit though goin in deep water, even the landrovers, same problems, water in axel's and gearboxes, fit good breathers and keep seals in good order.
We used to have a sj13 .put a vit 1.6 8v lump in and it was the only jeep that made every hill at devils pit.. the v8 land rovers all got stuck as we ploded around them lol ..i love these jeeps ..great vid .
This reminds me about an icelandic bus driver. We had to cross a really deep river in hte icelandic interiour and I asked him "How deep can you go into the water with that bus?" and his very cool and relaxed reply was: "Well, up to the windows it's no problem!" :-)
This is exactly why Jeep guys hate little Suzuki's like this. Jeeps are great, and I highly respect them. But in this case . . . . . . Jeep can suck it!
i sank my suzi up to the hood at fourdyce creek trail at first river crossing about 10 years ago. it took 1 1/2 years for the motor to blow. i love my suzi.
@JetaShot if the car can get air, release exhaust, and can get fire ( diesel engines wayyyy easier because they have no ignition system) then you can water proof it. Also, if the diesel engine has a mechanical fuel pump for the injectors and a mechanical transmission, there are no engine control electronics to worry about. These features can make it easier to waterproof. The fuel tank must be sealed and vented appropriately.Any venting for items such as the crankcase and differential.
hi bud this jeep is diesel fitted with a 1.7 isuzu turbo engine out of a cavalier, the fuel tank was made from alloy and was made to withstand 20ft deep water, as for the alternator that just keeps working under water, i have a volts gauge and i was shocked it was still charging even in deep water.
@sparks444 Sinking doesn't hurt the traction...the part that hurt the traction was when the rear kept FLOATING! As long as the wheels are touching ground, it doesn't matter if it's under water or not. If the thing DIDN'T sink, then it'd just bob about like a cork, no matter how much you hit the accelerator.
@Streetcar1743 erm...called a snorkel, and if you keep the revs up and the speed down the water stays out of the engine, provided everything is watertight and the electrics don't sizzle.
hey guys / gals engine fitted is out of a vauxhall cavalier, its a 1.7TURBO DIESEL and has no vacum hose's or spark plugs to worry about as you can see it runs perfect under water as long as the snorkel dont go under.
I changed the engine to a Vauxhall cavalier 1.7TD Isuzu, mated to a 1.8 carlton gearbox. I sold the Suzuki a few months after doing this but I saw it on ebay again only a few months ago. Was a great offroader but now im into going fast round tracks, check my other video's of my 700BHP SUPRA MKIV.
suzkuis are amazing vehciles, incase u guys are wondering, if u connect the snorkal a certian way u can go completey under water up until the very top of the snorkal! this guy got pretty close, 5stars, but i have to say i feel sorry for the old wee suzuki :( poor girl!
There is a snorkel for the air intake on the right("A" post) side of the truck, so the engine manages to take in fresh air for the duration of the ride.
That kind of comes down to preference, but if the 4runner doesn't have a a solid front axle pass it up. (Unless your willing to pay to swap one in). Cherokee's came with it so best bet and TONS of aftermarket parts.
@bigexodus lol deisel dont need the snorkel i drove in flood water in my vw jetta half way up the windshield and it worked fine, the truck behind me which was about 3 or 4 feet higher got 1/4 way through and hydrolockd so i turned around and picked the guy up, and yes ofc the car was a lil bit(compleetly) wet inside
@dakotasmontana206 i think he had a pipe for the engine air intake, you can see it next to windshield. electronics are so poor in that sj so that is not a prob :D
Question:Where is the filling spout of the fuel tank-above the water???? I did similar swim with my Defender and it got out,but on the tarmak it stopped-the fuel tank was full of water ,which came in throug the cap of the filling spout :(
the cool thing is every one thinks its a gas motor but i know better and when you don't have spark plugs you don't have to moire about anything getting wet other the your intake. but that looks fun some day i will do that with a truck i build. thanks for the video
the engine fitted is a 1.7TD out of a cavalier (vauxhall) so no electrics to worry about on the engine but as my mate rich said what you got your lights on for that was due to water getting in the light control unit, i also had to drain both axels - gearbox - plus engine oils to be safe, not long after that my transfer box broke not sure if it was down to this day but who cares plenty spares here lol.
I remember watching this video long time ago... now, if you still have the Samurai, it would be nice for a remake of this same video with a better resolution camera! even a Go Pro attached to the hood or the fender to see everything underwater in the same quarry!
as for electrics its a diesel so only needs a positive to keep going, alternator charge's whilst under and battery is still the same 2 years later, as for recking it its made to perform like this with plenty of money thrown a it, this jeep will go anywhere.
The buoyancy of the tires is probably offsetting about 150 lbs or so, that has nothing to do with the truck being able to move forward. Actually if it was semi-floating off the bed of the pond it wouldn't move at all. The only way it can move is to firmly touch the bottom. I've seen a jeep that was "stuck" because it was floating off the bottom a little and 3 or 4 guys jumped on the bumpers and it took off again
awesome man but how did you guys do that without any electronics failing in ignition etc. when they got wet???? I am getting the guts to finally get the inside of my new jeep rubicon wet but am worried about the electronics screwing up and the vehicle cutting off.
Nice vid! Me and my dad have actually bin off roading there in our series 3 v8 land rover, would be a shame to ruin it putting it through there though :p Nice vid Like I say, we have had land rover trails there :)
holly shit dude my apologyz makes my 1300GTI efi twincam turbo conversion look tame top points (was it a reasonably easy swap) i have just figured out how to water proof the computer in the glovebox and once fully operational will post videos Again top points on a awesome video
Engine fitted is a 1.7TD ISUZU Vauxhall astra engine, mated to a vauxhall carlton gearbox as they was all rear wheel drive, it was the 2.0 box and astra clutch + flywheel.
Hope you enjoyed watching it.
The same will work with a GASOLINE Motor ?
failing to prepare, is preparing to fail, looks like a well prepared suzuki, sweet video, i own a landrover and was still impressed, does mess em up a bit though goin in deep water, even the landrovers, same problems, water in axel's and gearboxes, fit good breathers and keep seals in good order.
suzuki SJ 413 samuray for ever the best
We used to have a sj13 .put a vit 1.6 8v lump in and it was the only jeep that made every hill at devils pit.. the v8 land rovers all got stuck as we ploded around them lol ..i love these jeeps ..great vid .
Except that it wasn't a jeep. Still a Suzuki haha.
Still beat every jeep at the pits including them shitty yank jeep v8s now there proper shit
luton Lu1 Of course man, it's a Suzuki!
Well sj stands for suzuki jeep. Sooo?
This reminds me about an icelandic bus driver. We had to cross a really deep river in hte icelandic interiour and I asked him "How deep can you go into the water with that bus?" and his very cool and relaxed reply was: "Well, up to the windows it's no problem!" :-)
That's what a good car can do with an amazing pilot behind the wheel!!! Congrats bro!!! Just awesome!!!
This is exactly why Jeep guys hate little Suzuki's like this.
Jeeps are great, and I highly respect them. But in this case . . .
. . . Jeep can suck it!
Either you are a Suzuk SJ guy who shitposts or just some asstalking dude. They obviously got wet. :)
Wow that's insane. That guy has nerves of steel to keep driving with the water at his neck. Awesome video.
Deepest I ever took my SJ was to the bonnet, this is impressive. Long live SJ's!
very nice very nice...i liked it when you were almost submerged....very ncie....got a little submarine almost...its another way to go fishing
"this is gonna go on youtube some where" ...good job, it did!
I own an 88 Sammy that I bought new. I always said that they made good submarines, but I had no idea they were that good. Great vid and you're crazy.
Absolutely nothing beats diesel engines.
Awesome vid! :)
I used to hate those suzuki jeeps but that was truly amazing,....one of the best vids ive ever seen,...5***** do some more,....DO IT,..DO IT.
Ichiro Suzuki !!
i sank my suzi up to the hood at fourdyce creek trail at first river crossing about 10 years ago. it took 1 1/2 years for the motor to blow. i love my suzi.
That's why you drive a Suzuki offroad and no piece of shit BMW!
The fuel tank must be sealed and vented appropriately.Any venting for items such as the crankcase and differential.
omfg that was mad fun... but how did you protect the engine man? awesome vid!!
Are You Crazy's? Your vehicle is incredible!!! Congratulations!
Great video! I can't belive he made it.
Excellent! Nice to see you blokes on the "other side of the pond" know how to have a good time wheeling.
this is how you take a bath and wash your car at same, time, JUST BEING PRACTICAL
hi bud this jeep is diesel fitted with a 1.7 isuzu turbo engine out of a cavalier, the fuel tank was made from alloy and was made to withstand 20ft deep water, as for the alternator that just keeps working under water, i have a volts gauge and i was shocked it was still charging even in deep water.
Not a single fuck was given that day, lmao
@sparks444 Sinking doesn't hurt the traction...the part that hurt the traction was when the rear kept FLOATING! As long as the wheels are touching ground, it doesn't matter if it's under water or not. If the thing DIDN'T sink, then it'd just bob about like a cork, no matter how much you hit the accelerator.
Too bad it wasn't a Subaru. You'll get 10 million views or more.
The great subaru baracca
Holy shit!! I'm surprised his huge balls didn't cause it to float to the surface. Awesome car and awesome driving!
Still a classic after 14 years!
@Streetcar1743 erm...called a snorkel, and if you keep the revs up and the speed down the water stays out of the engine, provided everything is watertight and the electrics don't sizzle.
Dla takiego "autka" nie ma rzeczy niemożliwych... pośmigał bym takim w terenie. Po prostu wodoodporny..:)
hey guys / gals engine fitted is out of a vauxhall cavalier, its a 1.7TURBO DIESEL and has no vacum hose's or spark plugs to worry about as you can see it runs perfect under water as long as the snorkel dont go under.
nice! always great to see the trucks swim.. :)
How do you stop the water from getting into the engine...dip stick hole....oil filler cap...carb...alternator...clutch...brake fluid container etc..
that was frickin awesome its like who needs roads or bridges or even a boat
i have a 1.9TD from a VW in my zuk, and i just snorkaled it.. hope its as waterproof as yours!! thats awesome!!
Now that is how you drive a Samurai. Your brothers at St. Cloud Samurai's in Florida, USA, give you props!
Now that's how you do it! Sincere Respect from a full size chevy owner!
I changed the engine to a Vauxhall cavalier 1.7TD Isuzu, mated to a 1.8 carlton gearbox.
I sold the Suzuki a few months after doing this but I saw it on ebay again only a few months ago.
Was a great offroader but now im into going fast round tracks, check my other video's of my 700BHP SUPRA MKIV.
yeah very nice very nice and i loved the car's snorkel lolol and the driver knew exactly where he was going very nice
suzkuis are amazing vehciles, incase u guys are wondering, if u connect the snorkal a certian way u can go completey under water up until the very top of the snorkal! this guy got pretty close, 5stars, but i have to say i feel sorry for the old wee suzuki :( poor girl!
There is a snorkel for the air intake on the right("A" post) side of the truck, so the engine manages to take in fresh air for the duration of the ride.
@BADBLOOD713 Scoop is for the intercooler and the snorkel is for the air intake
That kind of comes down to preference, but if the 4runner doesn't have a a solid front axle pass it up. (Unless your willing to pay to swap one in). Cherokee's came with it so best bet and TONS of aftermarket parts.
Nice! I have a diesel myself, and it's great not having to worry about sparkplugs and HT leads. ;D
Gives mad respect for a lil truck. What a badass lil beast
@davidhall8621 do you mean the new 1.9 Suzuki has in the vitara? its amazing how that thing makes more power and torque than my 2.5TD Pajero!
That took some rather large balls to do that! Nice one!
It's got a snorkel running up the left side of the windshield. It keeps the engine from sucking up water.
it's in a quarry mate, don't think he'd find much of anything apart from a shitload of muddy water! great vid!
it also helps if you install an exhaust snorkel too
That's absolutely marvelous. I'd try that but in a convertible so I could swim out if need be.
Awesome video 5*
Its from a cavalier TD 1.7 isuzu, fitted to a carlton gearbox. As you can see runs sweat as nut even under water.
@dakotasmontana206 i think he had a pipe for the engine air intake, you can see it next to windshield. electronics are so poor in that sj so that is not a prob :D
Spot on! Well done chap! Thats the way to do it, easiest way to wash the SJ!
ya it's the power of suzuki! I did the same thing just above the window level with my sidekick and it drove home no problems
Question:Where is the filling spout of the fuel tank-above the water????
I did similar swim with my Defender and it got out,but on the tarmak it stopped-the fuel tank was full of water ,which came in throug the cap of the filling spout :(
cool i wish we had diesel power off roaders in the US. LOL it float for a secondit lmost went totoally under how did it stay running without a snorkel
that was really cool :-) i love sj. it was the best car i`ve ever had. there was nothing to hard for my sj. R.I.P. ....i will never forget you :-)
there is a snorkel going up the driver side A-pillar. you can see a red ball at the end of a black tube .
the cool thing is every one thinks its a gas motor but i know better and when you don't have spark plugs you don't have to moire about anything getting wet other the your intake. but that looks fun some day i will do that with a truck i build. thanks for the video
OMG that was awsome I was scared for a second that it wouldnt make it WHOOA HOO!!! 5 Stars FOR SURE
uno de los mejores videos de youtube. Te felicito desde Argentina. UN GRANDE!!!!
@kiwic1 Diesel in better than gas in every aspect. It burns slower so it's more effecient, and it is cleaner than petrol.
if i didnt see it.
i wouldnt have belived it.
the roof was the only thing u could see!!!!
cheers mate.
5/5.
Do you have a special exhaust system and a sealed engine on that or what do you have to keep the water out or from ruining the engine?
Great!! I had to watch it 3x and it's still great!
the engine fitted is a 1.7TD out of a cavalier (vauxhall) so no electrics to worry about on the engine but as my mate rich said what you got your lights on for that was due to water getting in the light control unit, i also had to drain both axels - gearbox - plus engine oils to be safe, not long after that my transfer box broke not sure if it was down to this day but who cares plenty spares here lol.
Como hicieron para que el motor no se apagara?
@littlelexicooper yeah but what im saying is diesels can last longer submerged that gasoline vehicles
I remember watching this video long time ago... now, if you still have the Samurai, it would be nice for a remake of this same video with a better resolution camera! even a Go Pro attached to the hood or the fender to see everything underwater in the same quarry!
Man I tought he lost it there and was hoping he makes it back to land.
And he did. yay ;)
Awesome
as for electrics its a diesel so only needs a positive to keep going, alternator charge's whilst under and battery is still the same 2 years later, as for recking it its made to perform like this with plenty of money thrown a it, this jeep will go anywhere.
@littlelexicooper that too but idk how i went half way up the windshield and it never hydro-locked
Holy freakin crap man!
All you need is a periscope on that BEAST and you are all set to go subbin!!!
Still cannot believe this one ;)
awesome man but how did you guys do that without any electronics failing in ignition etc. when they got wet???? I am getting the guts to finally get the inside of my new jeep rubicon wet but am worried about the electronics screwing up and the vehicle cutting off.
Absolutely fabulous. Should start a business giving people a ride. I'd go & I'm 70 yrs old. !!!!
is that beast a chevy S10? what size Boggers are on that fing?
Either this is a diesel engine or he did a very good job sealing the ignition and distributor.
Give the driver a snorkel too! :-)
Nice vid!
Me and my dad have actually bin off roading there in our series 3 v8 land rover, would be a shame to ruin it putting it through there though :p
Nice vid
Like I say, we have had land rover trails there :)
I now see black pipe with red cap on left side of samurai for snorkel.... impressive.
That is amazing. Just watching Wheeler Dealers on Dave and your SJ puts theirs to shame!
can someone tell me if this guy has taken his motor fan out? otherwise he would burn the alternator or something
Up there with the best water crossing (car swim) I've seen... Well Done!
hi phil i have converted it to diesel (1.7 td isuzu) hence why it goes under water, i did have to change all the oils after thow.
perfect job and the best car so far. well done mate you are #1
suzuki17dt (2 months ago)
its TD 1.7 isuzu out of a cavalier they work well under water as you can see lol.
diesel?? i thought they come with the 1.3 petrol normally?
wow that was absolutely amazing in ANY vehicle!
Excelente video y Suzuki!
Quiero que el mìo ande asì.
Congratulations!
holly shit dude my apologyz makes my 1300GTI efi twincam turbo conversion look tame
top points (was it a reasonably easy swap)
i have just figured out how to water proof the computer in the glovebox and once fully operational will post videos
Again top points on a awesome video
I seen am exhaust on the Hummers that were built for the military that comes up out of the hood
like an exhaust or sidepipe on a semi.
no fucking way ROFL, that was AWSOME, i thought it was going completly under at one stage there...best video ive seen in a while
What engine is inside?? I now its diesel but which?
thats amazing...
Best laugh Iv'e had today !! really great to see that....AMAZING
( Love my 2002 Suzy 1.6 soft top )
@Anythin4TheCrack
A phrase from the movie "Back to the future 2" right? ;-)
How is that half submerge still can go
great job. other trucks worth 10 times more couldn't even do that. brilliant!!
