Water and Ice Outdoors I mean, I personally don’t own a Garmin LiveScope Ice Unit, but one of my better buddies does and for ice fishing it is technologically a big step ahead of the Helix! Bulkier, heavier, and other cons, but far better to find fish with! Specially school fish in shallow water! The LiveScope set a new bar, but also cost a pretty penny! Till then my Ice Helix G3N AS will do 🤣👍👍
8meals I get it. But I would hate fishing with that Livescope. You’d have to have a separate sled just to carry all the different parts. Not to mention having to drill an extra hole next to the one you’re fishing every time you move. I could never do it. It’s cool technology no doubt, but for twice the amount of work to fish it’s not worth it for me.
Water and Ice Outdoors Yup, you’re right! I have a big sled and it fit just fine with my other gear, because it collapses pretty good, but it is bigger than flasher for sure! Every tool has its intended purpose, when it comes to “finding fish”, I’d argue at this point in time, absolutely nothing will find fish like the LiveScope! So it’s particularly useful for finding school fish like crappie which tend to move around. Drilling a second hole next to the one you’re fishing out of is nothing, specially with today’s Lithium Powered Augers, because you have to remember that at the end of the day, you’re probably gonna drill way less holes when chasing school fish, than you would’ve using a conventional sonar/flasher because you can see everything around you in a giant radius and not just what’s below you! Theory is: figure out location, drill one hole, drop the LiveScope, find school, drill another hole or two on top of em and fish away! You are significantly reducing hole hopping, by a long shot, making it a lot more effective and efficient! But, if you’re using it in an stationary ice shack, or wanna set up shelter once, and have bigger fish move through as you wait them out, then obviously it doesn’t give you any more advantage other than the fact that during fishing, you see every fish come though, how he reacted to your bait, what he did, to a fine detail including bait fish, exact contour of the bottom and weeds, etc! Sonar/flasher won’t give you that, unless it passes directly through your small cone which shrinks your area of awareness and information by a lot! Some ppl want that awareness of what’s going on, while others set up tip ups and use no electronics! It’s all down to personal preference I guess! I personally rather chill in one spot than drill all day and move around.. I have access to a LiveScope and would love to have one myself. But that being said I wouldn’t haul it out every time either because it is bulky and more work to set up and use! But for certain applications, like finding fish, that is right now the standard to beat and its ahead by a mile to everything else out there right now, even just the regular Panoptix. So yeah, I personally still prefer my Helix G3N AS, works for me, easy to use, took that out yesterday caught good perch, and a nice 37” Pike!! I call that a successful day but I know the LiveScope could’ve put me on fish faster and more efficiently, but would’ve been a pain to haul up a steep bank on my sled on foot, along with my other gear, so I didn’t take it! I think they’ll make em more compact in the future though so looking forward to that..
That’s exactly how I run my 7. The dial on the left, and sonar on the right! I like the A SCOPE mode for the sonar graph too. And lithium is the way to go. I have 20 hrs on my lithium 12v 18ah and it’s still reading 100%
8meals I run the amp outdoors lithium battery. They are a little cheaper than a dakota lithium. I went with them because they sponsor one of the forums that I’m on.
Thanks for your help greatly appreciated. I just went and tried your settings Here’s a question. I pressed the power button to dim the screen and I saw something that said jig charge. Then a 10 second timer started. Any idea what that’s for.
Love my Ice Helix, but the round dial is gone now! Used it in split screen for a long time but man, I don’t think I could go back to a dial after using it on the scrolling 2d Sonar screen (not sure what it’s called), man it’s just so nice! Having the long history, with a medium or wide live dial on the right, set in A-Scope and Color #6, running always manual Depth, not Auto, this thing is literally the best option out there imho, other than the LiveScope perhaps lol. Great Unit, I highly recommend the G3N AS unit if you can, since it allows you to use it on the boat in summer as well!! And if you have another unit on there, then network em together
Can anyone please help me? I can’t read my lure/bait at all even with larger spoons with gain all the way up. I’ve tried all 3 different cone settings and nothing. Yes I’m on ice fishing mode. I have the helix 7 g3n mega si/di model and bought ice kit. Any responses greatly appreciated soooo frustrated.
The clarity is fine on one lake I was in 6 1/2 feet for panfish. Also tried on red lake recently in 12-13ft same results can mark fish but no lure/bait to no where the heck your at to finesse them. I can use vexilar no issues but I want my bird damn it
Great informative video there Grubbz. And THANK YOU for using " for all intents and purposes" correctly. Cant stand when people say "for all intensive purposes" drives me fking nuts. Lmao. Keep it up!
It’s pretty self explanatory.... you hit the menu button and click ice fishing mode.... if you watched the previous unboxing video you would know I bought it for ice fishing right before the ice so I set it right up for ice fishing. This video is about how to tune your setting in ice fishing mode. If you need a video on how to unscrew two screws and plug in the transducer I’m sorry.
Ive seen this guy make fun of facebookers for being "cheap" and not buying something like this... I will not support or encourage to support Todd Grubbz channel. Sorry.
You must not know how to read. That dude was making fun of me for buying this and saying it was waaaay too expensive. Then I said people spend thousands on their electronics for their boats and even more on their separate ice fishing flashers. This was only 700$ and it works for both ice fishing and open water. He gave me more shit and I said well it sucks to be cheap i guess. Never told him to buy this until, and he was cheap for not buying it. I just defending myself. But thanks for the comment. Every one helps. Maybe next time read the thread before making stupid comments on my videos though. Also know when you are commenting on a smaller youtubers video you are talking to them. Just saying “this guy” doesn’t really fit in this situation since I read and comment on every one of the comments on my videos. Thanks again
Throne of Games Bro, you for real? Had to edit your own comment I see.. No need for that negativity here on this channel.. Go take it to that FB post..
You CANNOT beat this unit on the ice! Especially with Lakemaster chips, a Vex glow ring and an Ice Defense added on!!!! One mean unit!!!
I gotta look into this vex glow ring

8meals Nice job!
Cool channel. I've been seeing your photos forever. Just subbed.
You are the man! Thanks a ton brother
I have a humminbird helix 7 chirp mega si gps g3 echo sounder. Can I use it as in the video? Do I need to buy a case and a winter sensor only?

Yeah I need to switch over! Sucks being broke haha
Precision Angling Dakota Lithium or what are you running? I need to get some too..

HELIX 5 4 YEARS OLD. USING DAKOTA BATTERY STARTED OUT @ 13.2 VOLTS 11 HOURS LATER 12.8 VOLTS , CHARGED IT & AM LOO KING FOR ANOTHER 11-12 HOURS USE.
Informing. Been looking at them, wondering. Thanks for the video. Sharing this on the Fish Fam Page for others that have been asking.
You are the man!!!! Thanks brother
Love the graft mode in green with black background ... And helix is the best. I got 2 helix 5 and will never go back to a regular flasher
I agree it is the freakin best
I should show you the power bank I made for mine. I can go for 3-4 days with my set up
That is sick
Jordan Anderson Do it Jordan, make a video! Lotsa ppl would like to see I’m sure
Thanks for your help greatly appreciated. I just went and tried your settings Here’s a question. I pressed the power button to dim the screen and I saw something that said jig charge. Then a 10 second timer started. Any idea what that’s for.
Hmmm that’s never happened to me
Oh it’s on the G3 SI. I can’t find anything on RUclips. I’ll have to ask a rep that often goes the the store where I bought.
If you have glow jigs/lures, you hold it up to that light to charge them. The 10 seconds is the charge time for the lure. Great feature.
I’m a vexilar guy but considering a helix 7 for my boat. It would be a bonus to be able to use it for both.
Yes!!! Love this video great machine
It’s so dope
Hello need some help what setting are you Using
With what?

Thanks for looking in to it you have no idea how much I appreciated your response awesome channel bud
I just got one, but I dont have a ice transducer, I can't see my lure, do u have to have a ice transducer for it to work better?
You definitely need an ice ducer to go with it
That thing is so cool with ice fishing. Gonna be great on your kayak as well! :)
I can’t wait
BABAAM!! Heck yeah!! Awesome job!!
Thanks homie! Doesn’t get no gooder!
Nice video!!! what fishing line you use??
8lb fluorocarbon
will these work on a kayak?
yes
Why does my helix read 23 when bottom is 21
Might be reading a false bottom.
4:17 chopper in the background;-)
The airport is right behind me haha
Sup Todd.. It records too? Nice. Like the different color screens! Can't wait to see on boat? Ty tc
Does this unit have charts on it?
Yes
Did he bite the grub before he hooked it lol
Hahaha
Thanks for the great video my friend
Yeah buddy!
While I do prefer the white background on the graph, having the black will add a little battery savings...
Truth
Clicked on this video for battery saving tips on my helix5..I agree I need a lithium battery
Dude if you have kvd line conditioner you can use it to clean your screen that is the only thing that is good for lol you don't need much ,

Hahahahahahaha I agree!
Sometimes the purpose is intensive though 😉🤣🤣
Sadly this is super fancy but don't see much more functionality than an old fl8.
👍👍👍👍👍.....from indonesia
