    I'm not sure if you're just a really good salesman or if your business model really makes sense but every time I watch these I get inspired. Now, I'm not a painter. I hate painting. But I'm considering adding it to my services and I'll just hire a team to do the jobs I get.
    I'm currently about three days into my first week of actually seeking business and I have over $600 in sales booked just for small handyman jobs. I was inspired to do this after first seeing Dan Perry's website, then yours. A big thanks to you both.

      PaintingBusinessPro checking it out thanks for the help wish i was closer would be love some one on one with bussiness goals for this spring and just trying to surround my self with people that are successful instead of people that dont have a bussiness and how to jump start this i have a flat bed im building and a few trailers some smaller tools ( smaller interor sprayers ladders and some basic supplies but would like to invest in larger paint sprayers pressure washers and a account with sherwin williams just not so good with my credit right now . Is it hard to get a account with them for paint, materials, and equipment so i could get them in advance and then pay after completion or is it always upfront.

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  6 лет назад

      No sweat. I only do 1on1 coaching if you are my business partner, so you're not missing out being far away. Now, don't buy any equipment before getting the program. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on equipment. At all. We have built our company to over $5M without spending a penny on equipment.
      The course comes with a 30 day money back guarantee. Get it, review it, it'll show you how to save tons of money. If you decide that you don't want to go with that approach, you can always refund the course and then buy equipment. But I think I can save you thousands of dollars and help you make a lot more profit a lot faster.

    Overall your advice is great, but there’s a couple things I recommend changing: 1) asking the customer a call would you like to include that?” For scraping/sanding/priming is a VERY BAD IDEA, because... that makes them think that they should expect a perfect job even if they don’t do these things. And even if they don’t actually think that, they will try to finagle you or blackmail you to get it. Or if the job doesn’t last they’ll complain about you online. IMO many people- including customers- are not honest or fair. So you have to tell people what the job requires to be done professionally to standards, and you need to tell people that you don’t compromise on their standards, for their safety and also your own safety and reputation. It’s theoretically possible you might once in a blue moon get a customer complaining that you wouldn’t do a job that halfway/wrong way, but that’s much less bad then if a customer says you offered them the option to do something and then the job went terribly because they didn’t do that option. They’re going to say, “if it was so necessary then why did the contractor make me think that it was only an option”. And then customers reading that review are then maybe not going to call you. Because they’re not going to trust you as much. 2) Telling your subcontractors how much you sold the job for works if the subcontractor is a decent friend/acquaintance of yours, and is overall a decent guy that likes to play fair. This is good because it makes giving the job quicker, and all of that. However some sub contractors cannot be trusted to know the price, because they will either try to change their price on you last minute (even walking off a job to ask for more), or demand more. For example if you’re making 6000 on a job and giving the crew 4000, then many crews will think to themselves “OK I can charge that contractor 4500 last minute, and he will give me the job because he will still be making 1500 and he doesn’t want to piss off the client by having us leave the job site”. To combat this, you need to have sub contractor agreements signed in writing that give a stiff $2000 civil penalty PER OCCURRENCE if they do this, and also, don’t tell subcontractors your total sale price unless you can trust their ass completely!

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  4 года назад +1

      I hear you and I disagree.
      I don't go into full detail on the sales process, but when you tell customers "what you do" rather than educate them and give them options, it will have a negative impact on sales. I've seen this for 10 years when training sales people. We call them stock estimates when you tell people what you do. You do need to educate, but always give them the options.
      And I think hiding your price with a sub looks shady. We are straight up and honest with our subs which is the foundation for a great relationship. If anyone steals a job, they never get a job again. This works well for us.

    • @milkhoneyproductions6341
      @milkhoneyproductions6341 5 лет назад

      Sergio honestly it all depends on what type of work you get, Commercial or Residential.
      Also you can ask for % to begin a project if it is over your budget to get materials. Many clients expect to pay at the end. But keep in mind that there is something called Change Orders if the client changes the design on you and you would need to create contracts and agreements. so you can charge by the gallon or by the square foot. Which ever suits you.
      Always calculate LN. FT X Wall height and that...is the Sq. if area to paint. Deduct window areas and doors to get and exact area. Ceilings are L X W for area total. (1) coat primer (2) Coats of paint.

    • @milkhoneyproductions6341
      @milkhoneyproductions6341 5 лет назад

      By gallon charge: example- 3000 Sq Ft. / 350= 8.5 gallons Primer and 17 Gal Paint, roughly looking at $20 ea. gal primer and $35 ea. gal Paint= $820 + 10% sundries= $911.00
      8.5 + 17= 25.5 gal X $100.00= $ 2,550.00 total Charge. minus materials $1,639.00 profit.
      if your going to have workers add $50 per guy to that per gal. price and you pay each painter $120 per day.

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  4 года назад

      No because there is no need for that video. From a tax perspective, you do your books. You log your revenue and log your expenses. And then at the end of the year you have your financial statement which you give to your tax person and they do your taxes. Nothing needs to be logged.
      You do need to have a contractor fill out a W9 form.
      And ALL of these details - everything you need to know - that's what's covered in detail in my full training course. I'd highly recommend it. there is far more information in my course than in my RUclips videos.

    • @PaintingBusinessPro

      Depends on the employee. Always the values and culture fit. Then it's always specific to the position I'm filling. Production managers should be good problem solvers. Sales people should be able to present themselves as highly competent and presentable. Painters should have attention to detail and hard work ethic. Etc...

    When you go with a Sub-contractor, who pays for the paint. will you have to cut From the total check? Then split?

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  5 лет назад

      Subcontractor buys the paint out of their 50%. If you want to pay subcontractors 50% with them buying the paint, you need to price your jobs high enough so that 50% is a FAIR price that they are HAPPY with.
      To build a great business, you need great painters/crews/subs. To have the best subs, you need to pay well.
      This leads you to being one of the higher priced companies in the market.
      Then that is why the sales process is so critical. We need to have a very strong sales process, so we can sell jobs at a high price, so we can deliver great work with great people.... While still maintaining a healthy profit margin.

    What is the best form of advertising

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  6 лет назад

      Any marketing / advertising that generates business at a profitable marketing cost is great. We have a lot of success with door to door marketing, lead services, and referrals.
      If you are just getting started, lead services are great. Because no matter how new or old your company is, you can immediately start getting a consistent stream of leads. And it's pay for results. So you only pay when you actually get a lead.
      Lots of other marketing costs money whether you get leads or not (like direct mail, for example). You could send 5000 pieces of mail for $3,000 and get 2 calls. Sucks. At least with lead services you are guaranteed leads when you pay money!

      People think about this all wrong. Would you rather have 50% of $4,000 or 80% of $2,000? (The answer is 50% of $4,000). You cannot run a business if you are paying out 65-80% to labor and materials. 20-35% is not enough for marketing, sales, accounting, insurance, workers comp, office costs, production managers, warranty, profit, etc... You need costs to be at 50%. But you also have to pay well or you end up with shitty contractors doing a shitty job.

      By the way the reason I am looking to get out is simply because I am tired of the purple world calling one at work and I believe that the free market is the greatest litmus past for success of what you add to societie. By the end of my career adjusted for today's dollars I might be able to make $200000 a year in which is 30 years down-the-line, there is a huge advantage to being up the make $200000 a year within 3 years versus Ben simply due to the time value of money. By the way, I came across your website because I am looking to start a painting website due to the extremely low barrier to entry from a capital perspective and being about to train depot in order to sales and market the business. To alignment is a little bit different than mine, I had About 6 to 7% more overhead with a 7% marketing budget however I am thinking that on your one million dollar corporation you're probably making 30% bottom line profits considering the things that you mentioned. Eventually I would like to and have the means and intelligence to grow this into a multi million dollar business. I am located right outside Chicago with a 13 million person cliant basis however the market is competitive here with people in white bands as you said. Anything you can do to help would be appreciated I would be more than willing to be your protege follow Wine for mind, step-by-step, tip to tail your system exactly

      Eric, with somebody like myself who manages the maintenance of 250 million dollar building That is a 114 years old, deals with multiple contractors on a daily basis, Go shades contracts already does estimating has been doing estimates For 10 years, As rental property, and other contacts in the business, do you think that I should invest in the basic system for 600 or the advanced system for a 1000? You do not seem to be the person and I'm with upsell somebody for no reason if it is not needed a, so description of my background. The other important part of this is that I am point attempt to started wall I am working my current job until I build-up to near my current salary, and hire people to do the work that I cannot because I am not available during the days. Do you Walk away and throw everything in that you can.
      professionalism is not an issue, I run conference calls on a weekly basis, Wanted to Give you a back ground of both my maintenance man engineering experiences, and are just looking for guidance. I have been in maintenance and building eng. for 16 years. wanted to give you a piece of my background
      By the way of already started the process and Already have 2 contractors which permitted would like to be part of the process along with one is going back partner and I anticipate a yes.
      You are correct by saying with my background this industry would be very easy . I have already done estimating for houses for painting and come within approximately 10%.
      Lastly common something that might help your students is an excel spreadsheet 9 out to estimate houses, which I can bill with tabels and advanced Formulas consideration the size of a job and if its industrial, residential home, or commercial.

    I like everything you talked about on how to put your business together but once you said you pay subcontractors 50 % ? How do you do to pay so little to a pro painter? I find that hard to believe. A good painter will never work for 50% unless he has a drug problem. Quality of work for a working relationship with a sub is at least 70% or your sale. You are just sellin and not doing anything you can’t keep 50. I feel bad when I go to the paint store and see those certa pro guys. Working their asses of to end op making 20-25 an hour. That’s like taking advantage of the rookies . My work speaks for itself and subs pay what I ask them for. That’s how you get a crew were you really just get the job sit and relax and wait for pay. Paying 50% you will most likely have alcoholics and drug addicts doing the work for you and you will have to constantly baby sit them.

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  4 года назад +1

      There's no way we could paint 30 houses a week with drug addicts and alcoholics and still have a business. We have a good reputation that we need to protect.
      We also couldn't have 80+ painters working for us if we weren't paying good money.
      The percentage is 50% because the other 50% is all of our costs. We aren't just putting that in our pocket. We have office staff, warranties, insurance, sales team, marketing expenses, clothing, project managers, color consultants, etc...
      Tehre is a lot we do that costs money. And then we need to make a profit.
      This 50/50 split is VERY standard. Some companies pay even less than 50%.
      But again... The percentage doesn't matter!
      Because I can bid a job for $3,000 or $4,000.
      50% of $3,000 would be $1,500
      50% of $4,000 would be $2,000
      So 50% might be "ripping people off" or it might be "paying really well"... It all depends on the price I'm charging the customer.
      And if I charge more to a customer, I can hire better painters and deliver a better experience.
      And if I pay more than 50%, I can't afford all of my other costs.
      This is basic economics - it's how it works. It can't work any other way.

    • @gulyman77
      @gulyman77 4 года назад

      PaintingBusinessPro aside from not agreeing with the 50/50 , I do like all your videos, very good info on them. There are many ways to do business, I would not work for 50 . Some others maybe would but here in Minnesota , that is just very hard to make it work. Paying insurances, equipment etc etc, in my 20 years painting I know that at least for me, is not worth my time.
      Congratulations on your success.!

    • @PaintingBusinessPro
      @PaintingBusinessPro  4 года назад

      @@gulyman77 Thanks Carlos. But I do want to clarify, because you're still missing the point. And so are a lot of people. You WILL work for 50%... I would work for less than 50% if the price is right.
      And you wouldn't work for 80% if the price is wrong... You, me and everybody else work for MONEY not PERCENTAGES. It depends on how much money you're paying me. I could care less what percentage that ends up being.
      Also, you might not be the ideal 50/50 subcontractor too. Usually subcontrators we work with like to ONLY sub. They don't market themselves or sell their own jobs.
