Questions to ask your sub-contractors on your initial phone call: - How big is your crew? - What type of work have you been doing? - What is your prep work protocol? - What does your turn-around time look like? - How many jobs can you do a week?
Subcontractor here in the state of New Mexico, thank you for this video!! - I got my crew covered with liability & workmans comp, we give a 1 year warranty on our work. My guys do demolition, drywall, painting, citing, framing and more. One of my guys is a licensed welder. They are fast and effective and have over 20 years experience!! Thanks again for your video!! Very informative😊
Brilliant video. I am baded in London U.k have my small company all set and ready, but getting subbies is my downside. This video actually helped me to understand where is my mistake. And brought me some good ideas
I had a painter look at/bid on 5 jobs and I added 25-30% onto his quote which would be my profit and I didn't get any of the jobs.. :/ Makes me now add only 15-20% onto his prices to see if I get something. I live in MA.
You're doing it wrong. Selling jobs (winning jobs) is NOT about the PRICE. You CANNOT lower your price to win jobs or you won't make any money. You need to know how to SELL. That's a big part of what you'll learn in my training course: www.paintingbusinesspro.com/course You'll learn how to find customers, how to sell, how to estimate, and how to find the right subcontractors. Everything about how to build this business is in my training courses.
I share 60% with my partners. Got the lowest prices in town , I'm doing great . I don't get employees or subs , i get partners. Why would i offer others what i didn't like for myself 😂 You guys are pretty greedy
I'm working as a painter right now hourly and picking up subs on the side. What steps would you recommend I take to transition into running a business? I have the company name and can get insurance/WSIB when it's necessary.
Great videos. I have a pretty successful window cleaning and pressure washing company and wanted to add Painting as one of my services. I am not too skilled on painting myself so how would I go about finding subcontractors to do jobs for me without me being able to do the work along side them, at least at the beginning stages of adding the service?
How seasonal is interior painting? I live in Toronto, Canada and I'm wondering if a painting business is year round. Are people still looking for work in the winter?
It's always slower in the winter because you only have interior painting instead of interior and exterior. But there is still work going on, just not as much. This is why I recommend hitting your goals during the better part of the season so the slow season is just a bonus.
@@PaintingBusinessPro Ok because I have a window cleaning company and we stay very busy for 8 months of the year but I'm looking to set up a painting business as a DBA under my current business. How seasonal is interior painting? Would you say a lot of people prefer to wait until the spring for their interior painting?
Keep up the good work Eric, I buy leads from Chandler and your self, best leads in the Biz. Regarding the haters that u have mentioned, Fu@k em. Your advise and Leads along with 25 years in the biz allows me to kill it out here in Orange county CA. All the best to both u and Chandler. Cheers, Madrids custom painting
like I always mention to other paint contractors " BEST LEADS IN THE BIZ" Have to be honest , I don't tell any local Competitors for obvious reasons.. But I am always letting other painting contractors know about you guys in other counties. All the best to you a d your team. Merry Christmas
Usually, no. We just pay in full at the end of the project. Sometimes we'll provide the materials up front. Most of the jobs we are doing are completed within 3-5 days and we pay the day they finish. Many companies that subcontract don't pay out for 7 days, so it's fairly standard.
Are you calculating the hourly rate for subs base on one painter? If that’s the case wouldn’t they be making less than 30, 20 an hr? I mean they would have to pay other painters on their crew. I would like to know to see how I should pay my subs
@@zigzigzig Yes, just like a client hires you for a set price and you buy materials. The subcontract is for a set price and that price includes labor and materials. But it's important to remember: whatever that amount is has to be a good price for them! If it's not, you won't attract anyone good to work for you. So there are no shortcuts.. This means you need to end up being a higher priced painter (which all larger companies are)... And to charge more money requires a more professional sales process... And a better marketing plan... It all ties together.
Overpaying is very bad advice. No one is going to stay on and take a pay cut when they do good professional work. Pay a helper who works alongside you and learns so you can gauge how much they are worth over time and whether you should increase their pay. But don't just say overpay.

find subs first? Or find work first and hope you find people to do the production?
Find clients first. Subs aren't interested in you if you don't have work.

So the subs are supposed to buy the materials?

good content, still relevant.
How can I reach out to you
I’m trying to start a business and I honestly don’t know were to start
I'm in Jacksonville NC who needs a painter
What was the surface area of the 1100 sq. ft. home? You cut it off!
I'm not sure, this video was a few years ago.

It's per total man hour. 50 hour house is 50 hours for 1 guy or 25 for 2 guys or 10 guys working 5 hours... It's total man hours.
@@PaintingBusinessPro Thanks!
How does painterchoice work?
You sign up. We send you customers who want quotes. You pay for each referred customer. Then you need to go sell the job!
Nice I been wanting to buy your course can you send me the link to get it please

Doctors get paid 50 an hour
Doctors are paid more like $150-$250 per hour bud!

Do the subs you hire pay for the materials?
Yes they do.

Not off the top of my head, no! At the moment, everyone is struggling. But in general not sure how he is doing either.

What I mean by "overpay" is be generous with compensation. The best people are worth it, and expect to be paid well.
