      Not really... the idea of the Targaryens as Dragon lords and kings is that the other former kingdoms aka vassal states WILL attempt coup d'etat simply because of whomever "house" is in charge of ruling.
      By all accounts the Hightowers played a dirty game, both Otto and Alycent plus the Maesters as co-conspirators and hidden insurrectionists.
      Otto is giving poison to the king's ear to avoid the Velaryon princess while sneaking his daughter for some "alone time" with the king which if the man has a weak character, he'll end up busy whipped and taken over.
      The show does a far better and subtle job of portraying Alycent as this fake pawn that quickly turns into a Queen piece and just like Chess, she exploited the king's death to make her son the king and heir.
      Rheynera has a bad character habits but the fact is that there was definitely a conspiracy in place to make her have "less" siblings which would have avoided all the trouble up to that point.

    I believe the Starks were told what was happening as they're the Northern Kings and would have to be involved in the fight. This is why a Targaryen was supposed to lead the fight and the Starks should always hold Winterfell ("There must always be a Stark at Winterfell"). In the end, it was a Stark that used the Targaryen knife to end the threat.

    • @stephencombes1979
      @stephencombes1979 2 года назад +7

      @@trueman.r.849 I think it's possible this knowledge died out further back, I don't think anyone alive knows why there must always be a Stark at Winterfell. Or what Winter could actually be referring to in the House words. Or truly why Torren knelt. If Ned's Father knew then it stands to reason he would have made this clear to the Mad King and everyone he spoke to when Aerys was making threats etc. And if this happened, then there would be no Robert's Rebellion as, although Robert would have been angry about losing Lyanna to another, he would have understood and might even have been part of any coup to put Rhaegar on the Iron Throne to ensure Lyanna's child became the Heir.
      Of course, it is also possible they knew this and this is why Rhaegar considered a coup against his Father, and why he felt he needed Aegon to be born to Lyanna Stark. A new pact of Ice and Fire designed to unite the Kingdoms and avoid Winter from overtaking them. But no one felt the need to let others know so the knowledge was lost after being passed down to each successive generation.

    On the one hand, I like the prophecy and all it entails across the Targaryen dynasty, but on the other I want to flip a table over because Arya killed the Night King. It feels like being trolled by D&D all over again because for now and possibly ever, theirs is the only way Game of Thrones ends. The books ending differently might soothe my need for a better ending, but it won't be the ending I and many other people *saw* unless/until they remake it. I've always wanted to see a series on Aegon's Conquest, but with the prominence they're now placing on his prophecy in the franchise it makes it even more intriguing for me. I didn't realize that 1899 was starting yet. I saw a promo for it months ago, so I'm glad you mentioned it in this video. Dark is one of my favorite TV shows of all time too.

  • @sofialarsson9100
    @sofialarsson9100 2 года назад +18

    Yes! Every time someone mentioned about the difficulty of this knowledge being passed down because of Maegor, I've been like: RHAENA! RHAENA! RHAENA! During the weeks of the season's runtime I've thought about this way: Aegon, Aenys, Rhaena, Jaehaerys, Viserys and Rhaenyra. But that's a simple explanation. I never really thought about the possibility of more than one per generation learning about this, but of course they would! It's the end of the world of men we're talking about here!
    Thank you for these two videos! They have given a greater input in my thoughts about this!
    And btw, I think I sort of predicted that you would do videos about this very topic, since I could not hold myself from commenting about this stuff after watching the video about Daemon's song! (I guess I'm a bit of a dreamer myself! XD) If I've known beforehand I would have waited, but oh well... Done is done, I guess.
    But to summarize, it mostly was about the dreamers and their dragons outside of the prophecy thing! I think both Balerion and Dreamfyre prefer to bound with dragon dreamers, and that they share a special bound, that maybe the older of them two is the younger ones father or grandfather by blood lineage, and that it later leads to Daenerys's dragons, especially Drogon! And that he's the Balerion come again as well as Dany could be Daenys the Dreamer come again, since I think Daenys was the first rider to Balerion! Like Daenys, Daenerys is east when she should go west! Also, their names sound almost the same!
    Another thing I like to add, is the thought about Jaehaerys and Alysannes first kids and how they play sort of a part of ASOIAF! Their three first children were named Aegon, Daenerys and Aemon! Aegon died, and before Daenerys passed away as well she was the heir, although Jaehaerys rather liked the thought about Aemon being the heir which Alysanne didn't agree on since the girl was older. He did say however that she would be queen with her brother as king, and that they would rule together. But that was not to be. However, what if Jaehaerys saw a glimpse of the future, or maybe it was something Rhaena shared with him that made him think that an Aemon and Daenerys would rule together and uniting the realm once the drak times to come? And maybe an Aegon too will be in the mix? I'm one of those who thinks Jon Snow's real name is Aemon, and Aegon could be Young Griff, and Daenerys is well: Daenerys! This makes me think that Aegon/fAegon will die before the battle against the second coming of the long night! And that Daenerys could die in the battle, and if not, she would maybe die of something she gets sick off after the fact and later dies, leaving Jon/Aemon to become king in the end? Maybe he marries a Baratheon? Or will the connection of a Baratheon meeting a Targaryen be in form of Shireen's sacrifice somehow having to do with Jon's resurrection? I don't really know, but that's my thoughts at least right now!
    I'm quite well read when it comes to Fire and Blood and the main series, but not as much of what happens between, so it was really nice to watch the first video you did! Maybe I should revisit those chapters in AWOIAF and the Dunk and Egg stories, and maybe I can put together my own idea of what happened with Aegon the Conqueror's dream, among with other things!
    Love your content very much! There are so many things that align with my thoughts! Thank you! You're my favorite ASOIAF RUclipsr!

      I thougth Jon's name could be Visenar or something related to Visenya, but him playing as Aemon The Dragonknight as a kid + Maester Aemon and Rhaegar being close and now this, it makes sense.
      About the first three childs of The Conciliator, was a nice shoot. Aegon, Dany and Jon might die at the end and leave the throne to the Starks or Martells, or even apply the democratic triarchy of Volantis to Westeros? (random idea that came to my mind after reading Tyrion and Jorah's conversation in aDwD). The only problem is Jon being older than Daenerys, but may not matter.

    Interesting. So it's really probable that the knowledge of the prophecy is greatly lost with the Dance of Dragons, and more still after Baelon the Bookburner, but Aerys I (perhaps the guy more obsessed with books and knowledge of all aSoIaF) manages to rediscover it. And then it would be him that passes it to the other Targaryens. However, could it be that there would be important pieces still missing that Aerys never found? Perhaps that would be why he was so obsessed. After him, looks like all the Targs know of the prophecy, but not before. Could it be that if Aerys had all the pieces he would also choose to limit more who gets to know it? If so, it would be quite strange if Viserys said everything there is to it in the show.

    Do you think Aemon told his daughter Rhaenys about prophecy? Since she was his heir (queen Alysenne called her "our queen to be"), and Aemon was told about prophecy from his father Jaehaerys... Could that be why she didn't protest much about Viserys succession? She doesn't want Targaryen civil war cause she knows that would be the end of Targaryens and subsequently the world. Slight tangent on the weapons (and ...horns) with glyphs/runes on them, there's 2 others in the story I think fly under the radar but are worth keeping an eye on. The red bronze ceremonial dagger Mirri Maz Duur uses. It's not the ceremonial design of it I think people miss. It's that it shows up again in Volantis in the Merchant's House on the table of gifts for the widow, right before Penny attacks Tyrion. The 2nd weapon is Ilyn Payne's 3rd sword which is covered in oddly magic related details. Not only is the blade covered in runes but It's pommel is a dragonglass skull with rubies for eyes. I wonder why Viserys didn't tell Daemon about the prophecy though. Sure thematically it makes sense because it shows how Viserys didn't consider Daemon his true heir. But it seems like a illogical move, what if Viserys died suddenly before telling Rhaenyra, then that very important knowledge would be lost (at least for a time), and he must have been acutely aware of heirs/Kings suddenly dying because of recent family history. It would make sense that everyone in the royal family knew. Is there then something about Maegor knowing and thus feeling justified to make sure there was a "strong" Targaryen on the throne, that could have led to the secrecy?

      @@kandykane3265, I feel like maybe Viserys thought Daemon wasn't responsible enough to be trusted with such "vital information" as much as he loved him. Wouldn't it be funny if Aegon the conq got dementia and demanded all of his valyrian possessions be inscribed with these runes. Then his sister wife's have to heat up all the blades and keep him on task. Then he keeps losing the important blades so he demands every normal blade to be melted into the iron throne but it has to be explained as this symbol of power instead of a solution for his dementia. Dementia is not funny at all but I think the scenario is quite comical.

    I've heard that Jaehaerys and Alysanne were staying in Dragonstone with Visenya herself when Maegor was king. So maybe Visenya told them about the prophecy, since she clearly knew. I just wish Viserys had told Rhaenyra (us) that he'd heard it from Jaehaerys himself, as that is the most likely scenario, but it'd have been easy and very cool to have him mention where he heard it from.

Rhaenyra knows it, asks Alicent why she crowned Aegon II when King's Landing is taken, the truth of Viserys' last words come out, Aegon III becomes King, and Alicent is held prisoner until her death. Or being lost until Bloodraven finds out about it. Hey, what if Aegon IV knew about it, and told Daemon, which led to the Blackfyre Rebellions?
