  • In this weeks vlog we share with you the difficulties of mooring on the River Thames. When coming onto the mighty river from a canal, it might well feel like an unfriendly place with little or no mooring and some places giving you 24 hours to move. Today we reveal some of the tips we've picked up over our 18 months on the water. #mooring #nomooring #difficulties

Great to see old haunts. I used to help the Shepperton lock keeper work the paddles. Circa 1956!

    Another really good video
All the boats in desbough cut were issued with notice move court summons and a few actually did move
However if it’s your only home Kingston council have to find you alternative accommodation before the boat can be seized which obviously will take years.
The environment agency does not recognise wild moorings so any moorings that are not private land and do not have a 24 hour restriction are considered 72 hour maximum stay
There is no requirement to move a certain distance on the Thames like there is on crt canals which creates quite a grey area regarding moving on the Thames however I would suggest moving at least 10 miles in either direct.
It’s quite difficult as you guys will know sometimes to get a mooring between Teddington and Windsor
Even in the winter as people tend to sit on some moorings for weeks at a time

Thank you and a really insightful comment it’s really handy to know these things, we didn’t realise that there wasn’t an amount you had to move on the Thames we thought it might be similar to canals, very interesting 😁

Back in the day when I was a lad and it used to be all fields round ere…. As soon as the lock closed the lock landings were a free for all no charge, but you had to be away in the queue at opening time. Along with anchoring we used to throw a bow line over a branch and those little islands stick your bow in and rope round a tree. Probably involve the high court and NATO these days.

Description is very misleading guys, surely the Thames is very different in London to say it’s source or out that way :)
It’s odd my brothers boat is mired at Windsor & as far as I know he never has many problems.mind you he’s got
    A a yougert pot and
B doesn’t use it that often and
C has me his lucky lookout ;) we went for a meal at the bells of outlet last month there’s what 5 spaces outside.when he passed none free,I got there 1h early 3 free lol.stander guy are until he arrived with the family in tow :)

      @WidebeamandWellingtons  Год назад +2

We’ve done the whole of the Thames apart from tidal, think we said as you get further towards Windsor etc it is easier to stop for longer, in fact many of the large towns you can stay for longer but there are many moorings which are only 24 hours. You just have to know the area I guess 😁

The signs are made from aluminium and people take the signs for profit, I saw someone cutting one down close to Kingston last week and he wasn't a Council or E.A. worker!

It’s one of the Thames guides, we’ve jokingly called it the ‘book of lies’ on our videos after our first trip up to Oxford and many moorings either not being where marked and even one being a graveyard where we definitely couldn’t moor! 😂😂

I've watched quite a few of your video's now and I keep thinking - "I know that chap from somewhere" .... It's only JUST dawned on Me .... Francis Rossi - Status Quo ...... Who'd a thunk it ?? 😂 .... Thought For The Day .... You'll have noticed the Astronomical RISE in Roadworks/Road Closures/Clean Air Zones up and down the Country causing Gridlock in MANY AREAS - Commonly known as #TheWarOnMotorists ...... That's been very successful in restricting our Free-Movements on the roads ..... They are NOW coming after the FLOOD of Boaters who have chosen Boat-Life as a cheaper alternative to Renting or Home Ownership - Just take a look at London canals and the Order-Books for NEW Widebeams & Narrowboats ...... #TheWarOnBoaters has been launched! ......
