My good friend, Narada Michael Walden, brilliantly arranged and produced this original version of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" for Whitney, in 1989, as a surprise for Clive Davis. It was virtually unreleased, except as a bonus cut on the Japanese version of her "I'm Your Baby Tonight" album. He also assembled the heavenly gospel choir and surprised Whitney with that, in NYC, when she recorded all the ad/libs. She was so excited! Her voice was fire that day!
JBCMUSIC: "Higher Love" that Steve initially wrote for Julia Roberts' "Pretty Woman" OST, but never made it there...and that he performed with 1 of Whitney's biggest influences in music, Chaka Khan. Maybe Kygo didn't use all the parts because he felt it was better to just pay homage to it rather than redo the whole song. If his remix turned you onto this song then he did his job. He didnt deconstruct a masterpiece - he grabbed it's essence and made a hit. He allowed the soul of the original to remain intact for us all to enjoy. Besides, if he did include all the vocal parts I am sure we'd be hearing criticism about that too. ....Just enjoy the music. Both are brilliant.
I only heard Kygo's version before coming here and as much as I'm proud of my fellow Norwegian (and even from the same hometown of Bergen), I actually gotta admit that this sounds better and is more melodious than Kygo's take on it. I do enjoy both versions but I also wish Kygo would've put the bridge in his remix too.
Completely agree, loved this version for years, Kygo bought the song back to life and mainstream, he done a great job, however if he'd included the bridge and also those amazing vocals like "bring it oooon home" he would have done an even better job!!

The remix's presence on platforms like RUclips and Spotify alone account for more than ONE BILLION views and listens which has reacquainted and in many cases introduced Whitney Houston and Steve Winwood to later generations.
This song has been floating around on various channels until the remix version was released, at which point they take down all this Whitney's version. Thank you @Danny DePrato for bringing it up. IMO, this is the best rendition of Higher Love I've ever heard. Could listen to it all day!
