Lyrics:
How will I know if he really loves me?
I say a prayer with every heartbeat
I fall in love whenever we meet
I'm asking you what you know about these things
How will I know if he's thinking of me?
I try to phone, but I'm too shy (Can't speak)
Falling in love is so bittersweet
This love is strong, why do I feel weak?

I had a baby girl in 1987 on Labor Day weekend, I got released without an official baby name. When the hospital called, wanting an official name, I said Whitney ( due to loving the name and talent)! My daughter is grown with four kids of her own, and loves her name! So hearing a Whitney Houston song to this day, makes me sappy! Lol
this is actually awesome
@@BHarry-mx9py does your daughter sing like Whitney Houston?

Great to hear that! :)
She had a true "once in a lifetime" voice.....You can't fake that range. OMG. Whitney, you are missed.

True. Many have tried, but no one sings or will ever sing like Whitney.
Insane range.
True. Mariah also has great range. Whitney will always be one of a kind.
Whitney!!!!!!!!!!!
Fun fact: Whitney's debut first album is one of the highest selling albums in music history!
My boyfriend was friend's with Whitney's daughter and would go over their house, and he said Whitney was soo kind. I still can't get over how she died... and how the truth of her death is being hidden. Truly a tragedy.
Yeah and even more disturbing is Whitney's daughter sharing almost the same fate!
Queen_K I know :( I hope she'll be okay I'm seriously scared though... my bf said the doctors said they are seeing some improvements in Krissi but full recovery is unlikely

Whitney's voice is unmatched. This song is timeless
Truly one of a kind
Agreed. I actually like this song (and video) the most of hers, even though "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" is more popular. This one has more of a distinctly 80s sound to it, though the lyrics were similar to 60s pop R&B style (quite a few 80s songs were late 50s to 60s influenced or straight up covers of songs from then). The latter was more polished and kind of maxed out, which became the norm for pop music from the 90s onward.
Don't fuck me 0:46
And Whitney did not have to slut * it up like Madonna. Well there was room for both in that era . And tragic that Whitney self-destructed in ways that the fans did not expect because she did come off as more wholesome
Absolutely!! ❤
This👏👏👏
My mom used blast Whitney Houston all the time. I never like her music growing up. Im 33 now. And I'll can think is just how Angelic her voice is and how sad it is she's gone. I haven't listened to her music in 27 years. She was something different.
What an incredible range. And sung so joyously!
In 1985 Whitney Houston released one of the greatest pieces of art in human history. The album contained this song, was nominated to Album of the Year and it is simply called "Whitney Houston". The greatest Love of All, is such a timeless classic, a song that breaks all boundaries, since it's a song that reaches to everyone, and can be felt by everybody. A song about not finding love in others, but finding love in ourselves.
+darkdevil905 So true
Only Whitney can cover songs and made it top the chart as it's her own songs. Truly The Voice.
This woman radiated beauty like.... unreal. And her voice, will never be equaled.

Whitney was not only one of the greatest voices of the 80s but of the 20th century!!!! Unfortunately she left us way too early but she will always be present in her music and she was also absolutely beautiful!!!!

I'm an 80s baby. Whitney was one of the pop princesses of the 80s. "How Will I Know" was one of my favorites. The song and the music video. I had the 45 seven inch vinyl single.
I used to think the lyrics were "I'm asking you 'cause you know about bee stings." Only when I got older did I realize that lyric was "these things". And here I thought Whitney was singing about the dangers of anaphylaxis.

One moment in time, the greatest love of all, so emotional, all at once, didn't we almost have it all.... Are my favorite songs of all time
But why do you think I wanna dance with somebody is better prior to this 😭(i love them both tho)
Apparently she turned it down to work on What Have You Done For Me Lately instead, which I'm equally glad about as it happens to be my second favorite Janet Jackson song after Straight Up!
I don't understand how people just didn't like her music cause it wasn't black enough, we should've been grateful as the black community to have such an icon while she was living!
There were plenty of other icons that should have gotten more airtime who had albums out around this time: Cat Miller, Miki Howard, Me'lisa Morgan, Stephanie Mills, Millie Scott, Phyllis Hyman, Cheryl Lynn, Patrice Rushen, Evelyn King, Regina Belle, Karyn White, Cherrelle, Liz Hogue, Eleanor Grant, Rena Scott, Patti Austin, Joyce Kennedy, etc. all had material out around this time. Quite frankly I'd rather listen to any of them than Whitney. It seems the ole' cabbage gets boiled down and we lose a part of history in an attempt to rewrite it. Both here voice and her songs are very overrated and always were.

@@DorianPaige00 shame, you should be ashamed of yourself. Whitney is a global icon and is the Queen of Pop. Her voice will live on forever, long after we’re all gone. Disgusting comment.
@@triplexhd3910 She might be the Global, international Queen of pop but she isn't nowhere near as soulful as those names I rattled in my prior post. What is disgusting is that her, MJ, and Prince are all you hear on Black radio today. Those three were nowhere near as big back then and all of their hits suffered listener burnout and were never played as recurrents. Terrible rewrite of history!
@@DorianPaige00 why does she have to be more “soulful”? Does it make her any less of representative of the African American community? I don’t get it...Whitney had the voice of an angel, none of those people you listed have even close to the level of Whitney’s vocals. You’re trying to make it out as if Whitney was some white washed pop star when that is completely untrue, it’s ridiculous.
She was graceful, beautiful, touched by God given talent. Representing NJ, the USA, Black people, all people, a gift to the world, I will forever have a place in my heart that nothing can fill, love you Whitney

R Jonas i was born 1980 of October this is my music
She was breathtaking, so f*cking talented, and such a big deal, but so down to Earth, and so human. She let her life get the best of her, it's beyond tragic. Watching her go from her prime to her passing is so sad. She just got involved with the wrong people, and her addictions got to her before we could save her. I would give anything to hear this voice again, I still can't fully believe that she is gone forever. Her legacy lives on though, she left us with some of the best music and vocals ever.
I am sure that if She didn't meet Her husband, She would still be with us.

Case with singer is just like the case with Your care: You can't say which one is "the best", since if You want to drive fast You'll need Ferrari, a "sportcoupe", to drive trough swamps and such You'll need a Jeep and to take all Your family You'd need sedan or minivan etc.
Whitney had really powerful voice, she was universal singer, same with Madonna, but then You have vocalists like Tina Turner and Bonnie Tyler with probably the most beautiful and powerful rock voices, then You have Marriah Carey with her soft, perfect for slower songs voice etc.

I'll never forget the weekend Whitney Houston died. It was my junior year of college in Fairfax, VA. On Friday, Feb. 10th, 2012, I took the Greyhound bus to Richmond, VA to visit a bunch of my friends from high school who went to a party school, VCU. My sis came down from Philly. Our other friends from Maryland and Boston. It was a big reunion. I don't quite remember what we did that Friday night or on Sunday, but I remember that Saturday night like it was yesterday. We all got ready to go out clubbing. As we were driving into town, we heard an announcement on the radio that Whitney Houston died. I was close to tears and everyone was speechless. Once we got to the club, as soon as we all walked in, we heard the DJ playing her music. We decided to stay and celebrate her life. The whole night was a tribute to her. I remember my friends and I dancing to, "I wanna dance with somebody" and having the best time! It was such a memorable night, because I wasn't alone in the dorms when I found out that my favorite singer after MJ had just died. I was surrounded by all my childhood friends as we honored her legacy.
May you rest in peace, Whitney. I'm now in my 30s and I still rock out to your music regularly. I even tear up everytime I hear you sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991, the year I was born. Your voice is still unmatched. You are an icon for the history books and our hearts. 🕊️

Ryan Vicentillo ya she was originally gonna sing I Just Can’t Stop Loving You which fun Fact came out the same year as the Bad album & Whitney 1987 album

I've seen people say that Whitney was skinny... maybe she was. But she was still very beautiful & very talented indeed.
WOOOW! What a lady!
What a voice! What a song! Perfection has a name
WHITNEY HOUSTON
A true legend and legends never die!!! 🎶💖🎶
😥😥

Yeah she was a legend .
you do
A message to the future generations:
"Don't let Whitney Houston's songs die"
Preach. Church. Tabernacle.
If depend of me my son will know who were whitney.
I can accurately say that it is impossible to die the voice of a true diva
my 19 year old sister is obsessed with her
Working on it. Currently jamming out with my two year old. She snaps her fingers and all 😂
This song’s structure is so cool. The first verse is followed by a pre-chorus, then the chorus which has the same harmony as the verse, then there’s the “if he loves me” section that sets up the awesome sax solo and a downward key change(!) Such a rockin’ tune!
And the sax man also doing contemporary dance!
@IsaiahJoel-oh3re That's such a bizarre comment. There were numerous guitar greats before Eddie Van Halen, and phenomenal use of sax in countless songs and styles in history including Seely Dan, Billy Joel, Blood Sweat and Tears, and countless others.
One of my Whitney Houston song. "How will I know". I was 16 when this came out in 1987. Whitney Houston Fan. I'm 53 it's still my favorite song by Whitney Houston. I still will always Love Whitney Houston ❤️ 💕 💓
THE most beautiful woman in the history of the human race - FLAWLESS
Hahahahahahahahaha. She doesn't even have much of a butt honestly.
@@Charles_Kos a big butt makes her cute?

Charles Kos that doesn’t matter
She was and still will be one of the prettiest women out there with an outstanding voice. ❤️
Hi jocey ,Hope you’re okay ?
Ahhh back in the days of guitar rifts, saxophone solo's and key change. Take me back to the 80's & 90's please!
I think the song was better before the key change.
YES!!! They were the best
True but the music and being a carefree kid was the best
Xilj believe it or not, life was actually far more interesting before the internet and smart phones. People talked to each other, wrote each other letters, made real music, etc.
David Epic Le Okay there, old timer. Go back to your Facebook posts saying how technology poisons our youth. Everything you guys say is so cliché.
Whitney's music will last forever
Yes they will!
This was the first video that introduced me to this INCREDIBLE talent called Whitney Houston!!! I was a young girl then.. but I remember saying to myself, "WHO IS THAT?!" I knew she was destined for GREATNESS! I wanted to sing like her...she became my musical inspiration. She was "THE VOICE!!!" In her prime, NOBODY could touch her! Rest on, Whitney. Your voice, music and gift continues to ASTONISH!!!
Logic is not rubbish to be fair
I still want voice like she had! 😭😭
Hall and Oates you make my dreams come true
singerspeak1 for sure....got the same feeling as if it is the first time watching
Nobody can touch her still.
I actually weep when I watch this video. The pain never stopped for me. She looks so beautiful and full of life here and she sounds like an angel. Looking at her in hindsight she was drop dead gorgeous but I never saw her as a sex symbol because I just had so much respect for her. Miss this lady so much.
Same here. Whitney was fine asf but I have too much respect for her to see her as a sex symbol.
@@BeaMode1990 same here
Same bro I thought I was the only one who thought that I even tried to picture her as one like the rest but she’s different I respect her like she’s an auntie that I never met
You don't see her as a sex symbol because that's not how she presented herself to the world but she did have sex appeal which became more apparent in the early 90's.
I agree. This is one of the best dance pop songs for like open your heart to me. Love this!
Loved Whitney she loved God and she was so talented! Still listen to her music all the time. She is at peace now.
Hands down, ten toes down the best EVER ! Any genre any spectrum this lady could SING ! Her Aretha and Etta

Wilson Faustin hh
She was loud. That's about it.
Shaise Mughal which would explain this music video...Then again it was the 80's
Her smile was just infectious :) I love Whitney's 80s material
came here after watching the movie, just realised how goated this woman is and how she’s the greatest female musician to ever Grace the earth.
she had the prettiest smile
@@boo8583 uh no...
