I'm really excited to try having a separate recording booth. I'm assuming that this makes it easier on the instance of OBS which is streaming as well. I've always wondered how people pulled this off. Math you are amazing friend!
concerning the crash protection, in the new OBS apparently there is the option for "fragmented MP4" which has this crash protection as well as an easy way for chapter markings with streamer bot
Thank you so much, this video was very helpful. Now that the game and mic audio are on seperate channels, could you please explain the best way to edit video in mic audio is still to low?
If your Mic Audio is still too low in the recording, you can do two things: 1) You can check if your mic is low in the recording OBS too - if so, add some Gain as a filter. 2) If it is fine in OBS but too low in your editing software, then you can add more volume to your mic in the editing software and remove some of the game volume.
@@ContentDelta thats the problem lol. Im new to all this, so im trying to figure out what edit software is best for just audio (cheapest/free) any recommendations or do you have a video on that already?
You can absolutely do it, but the way that I set it up your camera and game are both captured full screen so if you want to do punch in zooms, memes, or remove the camera entirely you can. Can't do that if you are also streaming!
you legend this was amazing. but i want to capture 3 videos simultaneously - my game, my razer kiyo x (wheel cam) and an e-meet nova (pedal cam) for driving vids. the e-meet comes out at a funny aspect ratio. what size to make your profile for triple cam?
Depends on how detailed you want to go! If you want something quick and out of the gate, Capcut is a great option. If you want to go into the deep end and spend some time learning the trade and never need to learn a new editing software again: DaVinci Resolve. The free version of that has everything that you need.
this was so helpful! im having issues when im looking back at the recording editing in capcut the video is not cropping to fit fullsize for me to separate it shows a slimer version of it. im not sure what to do?
I am not an expert in CapCut, but it sounds like your canvas is 1920x1080 and it is just rescaling that automatically. Is there somewhere where you can set the width of your video manually? - Else drop in the discord and I will see how the community can help you
What would the canvas size be for ultrawide gameplay recording and regular camera size? it wouldnt be double. for reference its 3440x1440 gameplay and 1920x1080 camera
My suggestion is to go with 6000 x 1440. That would let you upscale your camera right next to your gameplay. If OBS refuses (it does this sometimes) then you can also do 4500x1080 and downscale your game a little.
I'm a little confused. When streaming, are you running two instances of OBS simultaneously (stream instance, recording instance), or are you just installing the new one at the beginning of the video so you have a fresh settings file? Also what does the portable mode file do?
No, I am running two OBS versions at once. One for streaming and one for recording. The portable_mode.txt file tells OBS not to use the "System" settings for OBS (which would limit you to 1 OBS instance) but instead make a local config file. This also means that you can move it from PC to PC without losing your settings.
My 13700k 4070TI Super combo struggled a lot with streaming and recording at the same time. Your recording settings saved me from buying a new pc. Thank you for the video!🤝
I have done everything up to 1:16 but only one OBS has the capture when I have both instances of OBS running. When I try to open the new OBS it shows up on it but then when I open the streaming OBS, it doesn't show up on that. Its always one or the other.
Hey @TrueNorthGamer_! You mention the timestamp "1:16" but that is right at the start of the video. Could you perhaps drop into the discord and we'll try and figure it out together?
Yep! You will have two different OBS running simultaneously, so when you are streaming (in your regular OBS) you will also be recording (in your recording OBS).
@@ContentDelta thank you so much. I was thinking of just downloading Streamlabs and using that for recording but OBS for Streaming but I'll try this method instead.
Ok Ty for the video and tips. Ive gotten almost everything running but my issue is my razer kiyo pro camera is only picked up by the first instance of obs i open and not the second one... is there a solution to this other than using two separate cameras. thanks
If I record it like you and then insert the recording into my editing software (Filmora 13) and crop it, it’s not 100% sharp. The quality suffers for me with these settings. My base canvas is now set to 3840x1089. My scaled output resolution is set to 1920x1080. Anyone an idea?
If you record with a double wide canvas, turn off your rescaling. Then you should get two Full HD videos side by side in your recording and there will be no loss in quality.
QuickSync H.264 is using Intel UHD Integrated graphics, which means you are not using your dedicated graphics card if you have one. So, unless you don't have an Nvidia or AMD card I would avoid using it.
This might be a dumb question, but I didn't understood how to open this second OBS session. It always opens the streaming OBS I already configured. Even when I open it by the newly downloaded shortcut inside the unziped folder. Someone help?
When you unzipped your second OBS into a different folder make a text file called "portable_mode". Just make sure you have NOT opened your OBS before that. You need to do this BEFORE opening your second OBS the first time.
It has been in OBS since version 30.2 which launched in July 2024. You are correct, you can absolutely use that as many others (including myself) do, however it is technically still marked as a beta feature and so I tried to avoid it here

It does indeed! Hope you can use this to also give you the best recording quality!
Enjoy, Karr!
Great video just like the streaming one, finally someone who understands and explains in detail💙much love bro
Happy to help!
Woo hoo good stuff Math! I swear at times you're in my head and produce videos with the exact issue I've got written down to fix 😂😂.
The two last sections are going to come in incredibly handy I've been wondering how people did that so helpful thankyou
Happy to help! Let me know how it goes!

I am really looking forwards to trying these out.
Appreciate the help sir, thank you
Glad to help!
THAT CAM THING IS AWESOME THANK YOU
Happy you can use it! It's a great little trick!
thx for your video, need now a best streaming settings for OBS Platform Twitch 😄
Sounds good! I'll see what I can do!

This might be a dumb beginner question - But why are we not just using the same OBS installation for recording and streaming at the same time?
You can absolutely do it, but the way that I set it up your camera and game are both captured full screen so if you want to do punch in zooms, memes, or remove the camera entirely you can.

That is a very good question. If you are using NVENC as your encoder then the max width is 5120px, so you would need to fit it all in that.
Which software should i use for video editing

Good to hear! Have fun recording your content in full resolution!
Wait r u serious ?
My combo of the i7 8700k & 3060ti works lovely
Overclocked
I wonder if it was your cpu thermal throttling

i copy all this but my cam is blurry and game dont look 1080p at all
If you jump into the Discord then we may be able to help you there. Link is in the description
I'm so confused by this new install part will I have two different OBS'?
Yep! You will have two different OBS running simultaneously, so when you are streaming (in your regular OBS) you will also be recording (in your recording OBS).

Does the Razer software provide an additional camera feed? I know some do where you have the camera and a virtual camera you can pick.
@ would that be in the drop down menu under video recording sources, or a separate obs virtual camera source
I followed all of the steps so my recording and live streaming settings don't overlap, but nothing happened. Suggestions?
What do you mean "Nothing happened"? Did it not record?
If I record it like you and then insert the recording into my editing software (Filmora 13) and crop it, it’s not 100% sharp. The quality suffers for me with these settings. My base canvas is now set to 3840x1089. My scaled output resolution is set to 1920x1080.

@@ContentDelta OK! That's the problem. I've had already opened OBS before creating the file. Now It's working. Thanks, man. Your work save lives!
Dude, fragmented mp4 has been in OBS for years now so no need for that remuxing
It has been in OBS since version 30.2 which launched in July 2024.
