Little bit of correction: 24000kbps of bitrate means that every second you're writing 24 MEGABITS of data. 8 megabits make up to 1 megabyte, which means that, when you have 24000kbps of bitrate, every second you're writing only 3 megabytes, not 24... If that was the case, bitrate should have been to 192000kbps... Hope that helps. Great video tho
Thanks for the info. My only suggestion here would be to use MKV and not MP4 because if OBS crashes or any other issues, you will lose your entire recording. MKV will not be lost. You can then Remux your MKV to MP4 within OBS. MKV also works with multi audio tracks.
@@theos7291 there’s a setting that you can turn on to automatically remux when you end recording. Settings > Advanced > “Automatically remux to mp4”. Otherwise, you can manually remux by going to File > Remux Recordings. Pick your MKV on the left and choose the destination on the right.
It's a good idea when you're recording multiple hour sessions. I do recordings that are only 5 or 10 minutes each, so I have never had a crash. If I did, I woudl just re-record.
Fantastic video, very clear and to the point. Thanks! I am curious why you didn't choose to upload this video in 4K, but really good content either way!
well i think since his OBS was busy being demo'd he probably just used his laptop's built in screen recorder that defaulted to 1080p? I've heard that you can have multiple instances of OBS running to do this though.
Listen to this man word for word. I wish I seen this video before I started recording content for my channel. Hours of game play deleted because the video quality was horrible. I got my elgato just threw it in there connected it to my console and tried to record in 4K. Don’t be me
Thanks for the suggestions, especially the advanced options in the recording section. I experienced dropped frames when trying to record 4K gameplay of Monster Hunter World with OBS Studio on the same computer, because the GPU was already 99 percent occupied with 3D rendering, and the CPU was too slow to do x264 encoding. Ended up using the GeForce ShadowPlay, which required less resource.
3 years late to the party, but had to comment. Absolutely outstanding video. You made things super easy and clear while also explaining all the logic behind your instructions in an easy to understand manner. I wish more people had your gift of teaching!
I've just seen a 16TB external hard drive on Currys for £320... a LOT cheaper than I thought it was going to be, I remember back in 2011 when a 16GB SD card was like £32. I thought the 16TB drive was going to be like £650 easily. This tutorial was incredible and EXACTLY what I needed. I love your energy, I also love that you finally gave permission to hit "ok" haha.
I love how you explore options and show us the outcome of each (eg. 30fps vs 60fps, x264 vs NVIDIA)! I'm pretty sure if it were some other creator, I would have had to dig around for more videos that cover those two options. Thanks for the video! It's been really helpful. Liked and subbed to your channel!
Thanks so much! I’m on a MacBook Air m2 and I was getting the cpu overload with these settings. I then dropped the nitrate from 45000 down to 4000 and it’s working perfectly. Quality looks great and everything seems fine. I read online that 4000-6000 is optimal but your recommendations are soooo much higher. Also when I drop to 4000 it reduce the mo4 file size from 1.4gb (4 minutes recording) to 160mb! Not sure if the quality suffers to my eyes but maybe my eyes aren’t trained enough?
Thank you, just manually placing 3840x2160 gives 4k. Tried it, recorded video, played video and sure enough the resolution box was exactly a 4k screen. Nice video. All this time I thought OBS was capped at 1920x1080
@@tejasmore7441 In OBS there's an (input) and a (output). Let's say you wanna record a 720p windowed game running on the PC. 1280x720 is the input. I was having so much trouble with this. I have a Nvidia Card but it's a T1200 in a precision laptop. I mostly use it for Solidworks and Engineering tasks. I was about to go buy a new desktop but this video just saved me all that time and money. Thank You!
Very, very good! Thank you man, been recording in OBS for a year with standard settings, learned lots of new features today, gonna go out and check em out on my machine. Wish you all the best with developing your channel, good luck and see you again! P.S. Private message me in case you need any advise on MS Excel, will be happy to consult =)
hi, Thank you. I am watching your video for the first time. Appreciated. Can you please tell me how you draw arrows at run time on your windows machine?
I faced some issues while recording 4K videos with OBS and later found that I needed to upgrade my PC to avoid lags. After PC up-gradation, it gave me smooth experience. On the same PC (When it wasn't upgraded), ScreenRec was working well to capture 4K PC recording.
MAN YOU WERENT LYING. I followed the video, only to hear the graphics card part at the end. I wanted to test it, and all i did was start a full screen recording of your youtube video. a 30second video took up over 300mb but i had an 11min 1080p video previously recorded that was like 400mb?! and the CPU usage was over 40% during the recording. I didnt even start a game! crap! I'm going to have to revert the settings there's no way i can do it yet. Thank you so much for this video i need to invest in an nvidia card before i do 4k.
Hello there. Thank you for this fully comprehensive, easy to understand and straightforward tutorial! I really like the work that you do. I have a question: do you also handle Twitch channel creation? I am interested in adding all the right options for monetisation and donations on my Twitch channel. I already have the channel but I don;t know how to do those things - lol
Thanks for the tip. I did notice when recording last time sharing a screen and me talking at 1080, although my image was smaller, it was pixeled and my CPU has 32 cores with 64G of RAM, my graphic card can handle up to 8k (I haven't tried yet). I will try my 4k DSLR and see. -- BTW. your sound is pretty cool. I used Adobe Audition to record directly into my PC, what setting do you normally use. do you have a video on that? thanks
@@PatriotMindsets Well, I have to be honest, I know nothing about audio, or very, very basic, but I have good ears when I hear something good, in fact, I am so much aware that I can hear singers or TV host when breathing through their mouth, trust me it is annoying for me, I wish I didn't notice it. - Anyway, I hope he could share the setting.
If your using OBS studio to record games like GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2 your have to use 30 fps not 60, 60 will make your recorded video choppy, everything else is correct. I tried so hard to use the 60fps to work in video settings and all I got was a choppy mess, and I'm running a RTX 3080ti
Thank you so much for this video my friend! I was going mad trying to figure this out! One confusing thing i found even after this was my elgato HD60S+ device still only gave me option of 1920x1080 on the add device settings…after much googling it appears that setting is limited to your laptop/pc display so can be ignored i believe. Thanks again! 🙏🏻😎👊🏻
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you very so much for this video sir Finally i have found the video which have cleared my all probs of using OBS with 4k recording. Thank you again sir :)
Andrew, I'm curious about the encoder section of your tutorial. Using a Mac (both Intel and M1), the OBS options are Apple specific. Do you recommend one over the others?
Andrew thank you so much bro! Youre really helping me out figure out how to utilize the most out of my nvidia graphics card and my Creator Asus Q laptop which is a very fast laptop too! But my settings recently weren't set right so i think ive had lagging and freezing issues when i record on my 4k webcam, so now im gonna try these specs! I think ill want to book you too because i need help growing my Christian RUclips channel and how to figure out best lighting, video effects, and to make my videos be more widespread! God bless you!!
Hai thanks for you video, may i ask some question about your logo animation on the bottom left? Can you share to us the tutorial how to make that logo animation? Thank you before..
I know this is kind of an old video now, but I still think I should give my opinion, and also the opinion of Nvidia- CQP is recommended for recording and CBR for streaming. And let me tell you, CQP makes some fantastic looking recordings. File sizes are pretty massive though.
I have a question when I go to the setting and then click on video, the output and canvas doesn't have the 3840x2160 resolution to choose. Do you have any solution?
Oh man, on the mac version of OBS, there is no Rate Control option in the Recording tab. Just Bitrate. This was a great and straight to the point video though! Would be cool if a tutorial like this was made for mac users!
