    You guy's should get Mike Vickers on the show to talk about Operation Cyclone and tell Gust Avrakotos and Charlie Williams stories, that'd be a good one.

    Probably a dumb question, what does "winchestering rounds" mean? Walking in the mortar rounds?

    • @KNUCKLESPRINGER
      @KNUCKLESPRINGER Год назад +2

      60 mm mortar can be fired hand held sitting on the ground. You have to remove some of the charges though. I am guessing that is what he meant but I am not sure.

      Going Winchester is slang for running out of ammo. He was talking about 60mm mortar teams using up all their ammo rather than having to carry it back.

      For fighter pilots, Winchester means running out of munitions. Same here? I don't know

      Same as going black. Means running out of ammo.

    Can you guys talk to someone that was actually in the valley? Seems like les is only repeating what he heard second hand

    • @dukecraig2402
      @dukecraig2402 Год назад +5

      Seriously?
      That's your take on things? He's specific enough about things like piles of ball hair and you're questioning his authenticity?
      Wow, you're not a hard person to make happy are you? I'll bet you've got lots of successful relationships in your past.

      @@dukecraig2402 Lol dude youre a goof - Les himself states multiple times that he does not know all the details of what went down in the main valley. The whole point that les was making was that mortars were stuck in a support position away from the main effort

      You're the one that's a goof, that's the nature of mortars, they're not right at the front line and he was indeed in the valley, his mortars were in a position to cover it, they've got range but not that much range that they wouldn't be there, they're not artillery.
      Perhaps you should confine your comments in life to things you actually have experience at and understand how they work, like burping babies or washing the dishes instead of trying to cast shade on someone like him that lived through the things he did, they don't have him on this podcast because he wasn't actually there.

      Second hand through a radio / on the ground in a separate portion of the valley while supporting the main assault with timely on call indirect fires and on the receiving end of enemy fire. Mortars were on the main push with 60mm I was supporting battalion from an offset position but still in the valley with a 120mm and 81mm. Rest assure, we were the first ones in that valley and the last ones out.

      @@Nemesisofmore Can back up everything you said, from the "kill tv" perspective back on Alpha. I don't see it even mentioned here but the two EAGLES down that day and how they actually died. Whole day was a shitshow, black on water before they took off to go into the valley.
