Was here 9 years ago, 4 years ago. And back again today. This is hands down. still the best fkn jam on RUclips. Hope all is well with you and I hope your still slinging tunes.
Dude, that was hands down the best demonstration of those styles I've ever heard. Best part is that you weren't even remotely copying anyone (that I've ever heard anyway), and each riff and riff combination was very catchy and melodically expressed the style you were demonstrating, PLUS, you proved without a shadow of a doubt that NO metal style needs to have the gain cranked to 11 to sound good. Keep it up brotha. /m/,
10 years... That's the first video made me a Metalhead. I recall that after watching this video I searched for Folk Metal on RUclips. Suddenly I came across with Eluveitie. Since then, I'm a Metalhead. I owe you countless thanks Raz Ben Ari. You've changed a young man's life 😉
I first watched this video 12 or 13 years ago. I picked out the genres I liked. Now the list is expanded. I must say, the genres are well represented. But I would say that the examples themselves are great, because when you try to listen to something in a certain genre, you don't immediately stumble upon something you definitely like. But now I like absolutely everything in the video. I rewatch it in its entirety at least once a year when I remember it. Thank you so much for it. It still delivers.
I used to watch this video a lot back in 2012 and 2013 when I was first starting out on guitar, it was huge influence for me to push myself to get better. Coming back to it years later it still holds up as a great video
AggresssivePerfector or maybe because these two genres are quite similar? Look at Shadows Fall. Did they rip themselves off after changing going from melodeath to metalcore?
The video frame rate is pretty low, and that causes it to be out of sync. Though it seems to be 25 fps, which might be enough, even if 30+ would be better for guitar videos. Either way, I see no reason whatsoever to think this is fake.
Ofcourse you can. This is RUclips, not 'merica where you can sue suersuerdesue eachothers butthole of. Apart of that it's surely not forbidden to post your own interpretation and it seems your using this as an excuse. Just diiIiggg it!

It's weird how a badly shot video from 2010 has some of my favorite music of all time, you're truly talented, I've been listening to this for years now and it always feels good Salute
My favs. 10.) Black Metal 9.) Power Metal 8.) Grunge 7.) Hard Rock 6.) Melodic Deathcore 5.) Melodic Metalcore 4.) Metalcore 3.) Nu Metal 2.) Blackened Death Metal 1.) Death Metal/Deathcore
That was fuckin SWEET. I've played for 20 yrs but never truley got into playing metal thoughI love listening. I've read that "deathcore" is the most hated subgenre?? That bands hate to be labled it?? I think Hatebreed or Acaia Strain is hardcore, mixed with Six Feet Under or Dying Fetus - death metal...yea, wouldn't sound good! Oceano is pretty fuckin good. They get labeled "deathcore"....IDK :-\
nah dude a lot of death core bands of crazy solo's. As someone who listens to all of those genre's I think I can say it's those "hardcore/beatdown" like Emmure that play nothing but breakdowns haha
Yeah, a lot of deathcore sounds the same, but you can find some--SOME-- real gems within the style. Another reason why it's hated is because the fan base is really young. But I don't see what that has to do with the music.
Heavy sounds like progressive. Actually it sounds exactly as Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime album that came out in 1988. And your "progressive part" sounds like metalcore.
Queensryche is a Heavy Metal band in the first place , not a progressive metal band , second if the progressive part sounded to you like metalcore , than you really have zero idea what metalcore is .
Shinichi Asakura Ok, prog metal part sounded sort of something like simplified prog death and metalcore. Early Queensryche was heavy metal, they became more of an old school progressive metal (like Fates Warning and Dream Theater) in late 80s/early 90s.
Excactly ive heard prog metal bands that are as heavy as death or black metal , and ive heard lighter prog metal bands that sound more like melodic heavy metal , also ive heard bands playing prog metal that sounded like jazz + power metal . Kiddos plz stop thinking that a genre has a flat description and each band of the genre can be compared to each other , most of genres have very light characteristics . the same goes with a genre like post hardcore , there are bands that play post hardcore as light as alt rock or post grunge and bands as heavy as metlacore where its hard to tell if they are still post hardcore or already metalcore . So next time when you start saying crap about something you dont know go and hit yourself with a hammer , there will be one less internet troll or even somehow you get smarter this way .
The whole composition together together is genius. The individual types capture exactly what the genres are about (even though the thrash and prog were a tad weak). Besides that it was pitch perfect.
I like it but you can't have a video like this without Doom Metal, come on man, one the first heavy metal bands to come into existence was early doom (Black Sabbath).
They were barely even Proto-Doom. They influenced bands what brought about Traditional Doom, but were never really a Doom Metal band. Just the odd slow riffs and slow tempos in a few songs of the first 3 albums.
Metalcore is NO Metal! :P (and I didn't like that Melo Death Part much... was too short and imho not representative enough... should be more of a combination of pagan/folk, death and a little power ^^) Despite that: Awesome Vid ^^

Great video! It was cool to see the different styles without anything vocal. I think the music is metal is so great that there's not so much need to focus all on vocals like most other genres do.

I liked your vid... But why call it 'Glam Rock' instead of Glam METAL? Is it because Glam is not 'metal enough'? 🤘
Hell yeah some of that good old 2005 metalcore

Just a quick hello and a little reminder to come back and rewatch this glorious piece 😸
10 years later, and still no video has beaten this one.
that thrash metal riff tho
I FEEL SO FVKING NOSTALGIC MAN! THIS MASTERPIECE WAS 10 FVKING YEARS AGO!!!
12 years later still love the sequence!
And feel a bit nostalgic about old good days

That's just about the highest compliment that can be paid to a man or woman!
I first watched this video 12 or 13 years ago. I picked out the genres I liked. Now the list is expanded. I must say, the genres are well represented. Holy hell, this is awesome! The folk metal you did was amazing. Should most definitely do a full version of that
A standing ovation for this guy please!
Why melodic metal soo short? ;(
Still watching, after 13 years. Still coll AF. Thank you, man for this song and free tabs. I learned a lot from you
yep
The folk metal part is awesome. Oo
I can't pick a favorite riff they're all dope. Good work man.
Showing some love for power and Folk metal, my man \m/ \m/
i can't stop to hear this notes!!!! grat job!
How could anyone not like glam rock...that first riff he played was amazing!!!
David Marino totally agree m8
Amazing
Need tabs for that folk stuff..
Because of this video I started to be interested in Folk Metal.
Thank you Raz :D
I would have loved to see his take on southern metal in this video. Still incredible and one of my favorite videos for many years
That was fucking great man!! You performed all those genres very great!!
I absolutely love the transition from Progressive metal to metalcore.
That was really awesome!
P.s. The Folk Metal section totally reminded me of Frog's Theme in Chrono Trigger. And that was really awesome too haha.
MKtagteamer Even though this is an old comment but dude, u got it right hahah
These riffs are just so perfect, not a single one of the other "Many metal genre song" videos comes close.
2019 and I'm still listen to this
From 0:42 Power Metal. Does anybody know to which song this one is similar?
La leyenda del hada y el mago
almost every arch enemy song
dragon force
NO WAYS!! arch enemy is absolutely NOT Power metal
THIS IS INCREDIBLE \m/ HEAVY METAL FOR LIFE!!
This video never gets old, and hasn't to my mind been matched for sheer brilliance and brutality in the perfect mix.
the glam rock riff is fuckin sick
For sure! Reminds me of some Dokken or Ratt!
Please do an extended versions for each one like for the folk one .. amazing anyway am following u years ago .. Greetings from Cairo :)
0:59 - Im in love....
I used to watch this video a lot back in 2012 and 2013 when I was first starting out on guitar, it was huge influence for me to push myself to get better. Coming back to it years later it still holds up as a great video
Melodic death metal reminded me of All That Remains.
that's because most similar metalcore bands use riffs that melodeath bands were playing 10-15 years ago ;)
AggresssivePerfector or maybe because these two genres are quite similar? Look at Shadows Fall. Did they rip themselves off after changing going from melodeath to metalcore?
It’s funny how that sentence is actually makes sense lol
for me, it sounded like Suicide Silence - Destroy of a Statue
The glam rock part is like fucking amazing
its a bluez roots with rock

Wow it's been like 3 years since I watched this video for the first time. And still think Glam Rock rules!
First saw this about 9 years ago. Had been searching for some time for it again. Extremely well done. One of my RUclips Faves
Epic guitar player
Maybe there's a delay.
Must of been some software for his guitar maybe just add in the drums to make it run smoother either that or it's just a delay/out of sync
The video frame rate is pretty low, and that causes it to be out of sync. Though it seems to be 25 fps, which might be enough, even if 30+ would be better for guitar videos. Either way, I see no reason whatsoever to think this is fake.
It's obviously not fake. Anyone who plays knows it's not fake. If you knew how to play, you'd know it's not fake.
It's not fake, it just confused me with the drums added in :P
2:35 He is excited!
I wanna do my own version of this but extended with more solos....problem is, I can't do someone else's idea.
Ofcourse you can. This is RUclips, not 'merica where you can sue suersuerdesue eachothers butthole of. Apart of that it's surely not forbidden to post your own interpretation and it seems your using this as an excuse. Just diiIiggg it!
Man, that metalcore section at the end is so good. I wish it were a full song, I've been rewinding over and over.
I miss the Doom and the Gothic, but great job
Great Job.
Power Metal Mastergenre.
One of my favourite videos I've been back and forth for the last decade
\m/ As the saying goes "Metal is like an apple, everything is good except the core"
Disagree with you there...
Hahaha, I don't have a scathing hatred for core, nor do I listen to it but that's a pretty cool saying.
When I eat an apple, I eat the core. You know what's in apple cores? Apple seeds. Do you know what's in apple seeds? Cyanide. So every time I eat an apple, I absorb poison into my being and live!
***** true that..
Except for Mathcore and early metalcore. Converge and TDEP are absolutely amazing

Afrobomination It's not deathcore bands that are known for the 000-000-0 etc.

Folk Metal = win
Really liked this and your "Rock vs Metal" video, really helped me understand differences in a genre I'm looking into.
Haha, at the Trash Metal part, I always have to head bang so hard.
Melodic Death Metal is the best!!!!!
Thrash and melodic death FTW
+Malkhaz Jokhadze yeah but only in this video sound better
+Metalhead4life\m/ DeaThrash! DeaThrash Legions!
Thrash, thrash, thrash!!!
progressive metal part was the best
but it wasn't on an 8string so it wasn't progressive enough
Wulf Ison lol true that
Eric Ison that's djent. Or technical metal
You don't really need an 8-string to play prog :)
that really did take the cake.
of course I'm biased because I love the stuff, but it was a great transition.
Unbeatable riffs man. I remember watching this video back in 2011, it still amazes me.
Add doom metal !
where is the fucking Doom Metal
Heavy sounds like progressive. Actually it sounds exactly as Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime album that came out in 1988.

Penguin772 I agree with Penguin about the prog metal part. None of this sounded much like prog metal. Not even the heavy metal section.
C.J. Hayes
That's because every prog metal band has its own style... I don't know two progressive metal bands, that sounds any similar!

Metalcore is NO Metal! :P

After 12 years, remains the best!
Glam Rock is not Metal.
The Hylian Metalhead glam metal ,glam rock its a different thing, fuck you if you don't consider it as metal
More metal than metalcore at least
metalcore, ha gayyyyyyyyy
Still cannot tell the difference between rock and metal
Is there a difference between Guns 'n' Roses and Metallica? Is there a difference between AC/DC and Slayer?
Listen to a GNR song, then a Metallica song,
Do the same with AC/DC and Slayer,
You'll see the difference.
AUGamerTV There sure is! But then come some people and claim that Metallica is rock!
If Metal is a subgenre, then what is Death Metal, Power Metal, etc..?
Is it a sub-sub-Genre?
IMHO, every sub(sub(sub(..))) genre of metal should be attributed to a single band, or a few at most
rebghb There's a ton of metal Genres, that tons of bands combine, to make new and shiny genres. But most genres are attritubed to a handfull of bands. For Example Metal Core, which is represented best by Killswitch Engage and As i Lay Dying.
What is most amazing about this is how great the track itself is. The riffs man. You fucking know your stuff. Respect!
8 years and 4 days later and still this video is my reference to metal genres.. master piece!!
coming back to it after all these years (probably around 8 years really), still very cool
it's been years and i keep coming back this video and still like it :)
13 years and still on point, great video
yeah baby
Wow, I watched this video in 2010, remembered and searched for it right now. Very impressive stuff, love it.
I like how you made clear the similarities between your work and the soundalikes (inspiration maybe ? ;) ) - great playing man, love it
that folk metal riff you played was really awesome !
listened to this in Uni 8 years ago...cold december nights...loved it then love it now.
I keep coming back every year to watch this video again and again.
it's not just the individual parts of the song but the way he fits them together to one successfull piece that makes this so good imho
Great video! It was cool to see the different styles without anything vocal. I think the music is metal is so great that there's not so much need to focus all on vocals like most other genres do.
Coming back to this awesome song almost a decade later. The "progressive metal" -> "metalcore"-part still makes my spine chill!
