Polish metal isn't psychedelic anything. The piece in the video reminds of typical Polish death metal in the style of Behemoth. About as far away from psychedelic as you can get.

i think ive read it was about countries who have made a contribution to the metal, and have created a unique sound for the metal scene. Im mexican and i know my country doesnt have an actual Major band as Sepultura for brazil.
Metal in the eastern world actually hasnt had that development as in the western countries named in the video (except for Japan with the Visual kei and X-japan or even Australia with Parkway Drive). i do know Metal exist in many eastern countries but the east hasnt got that development due to religious and political beliefs.(e.g. China, Russia, Israel, many muslim countries and so)

Maureen Davidson The thing with Japanese metal is that they take European genres and put Japanese melodies (and sometimes song structures as well) in there, so that's probably why they weren't mentioned (Japanese metal

Jao Leyon Wutep Well, scales are not enough to create new genres though, there's a lot more to it than that..
We could go back endlessly if you wish, but most metal genres today are mainly build around NWBHM, so that's why I say European.

@hisvictimesty Well it really isn't, the heart is still Scandinavia, but the deepest root is Jimmy Hendrix whom is from the States. Those of the Scands pretty much made it into the more house-hold name of metal, even though yes the UK did help influence that. Also Japanese metal. . . Is more pop rock than metal, I hate Japanese music that isn't orchestrated and isn't from Video Games. J-Metal isn't grand, but metal is big over in Japan.

    UK - NWOBHM, Iron Maiden-y
Germany - 80's Hamburgesque Power Metal
Canada - Annihilator (it's my country, I know this for sure)
    Brazil - Sepultura
USA - Lamb of God, groove metal
    Poland - I actually don't know this :(
    Sweden - Melodic Death
    Finland - Folk Metal
Spain - hmm... Mago de Oz?
Italy - I'm going to go with Rhapsody, cuz that's the only band I know from there.
    Norway - black metal obviously
    Netherlands - I actually don't know

Metalcore may be only one of a large number of metal types that got their big start in America (Obviously thrash being the biggest one) but what's unique about metalcore as opposed to any of the others is that it's managed to stay pretty much entirely within the scope of American bands, at least when you consider what has and has not broken into the metal mainstream. Thrash has branched out, groove has too, others as well.

It was obviously based on rhapsody's songs like warrior of ice. Not that the songs are all like that but the long sustained notes are probably the one thing that makes them stand out. Sure, with no chorus, no organ no orchestral grandeur ... that's it.. a couple of long notes.
Compare with warrior of ice for the first 42 seconds

I'm not exactly sure what bands the Canadian and Brazil parts were influenced by, but I like the sound of both riffs. Perhaps Sepultura for the Brazil riff, but I'm not sure. Regardless, the rest sounded pretty accurate, although I would have preferred it if the States were represented a little better.. :(

You know, we got better bands out there, maybe they're just less famous or unkown to the player ( Strana Officina, Novembre, The Foreshadowing, Coram Lethe, Stormlord and Death SS. just to name a few).

While I agree that all of the riffs were awesome, I have to argue that simplicity does not equal laziness. Mingus said, "Anyone can make the simple complicated. Creativity is making the complicated simple." I have some bias being American, but you can even take that example to represent a band like Gojira, from France.

Although I agree that Europe has more bands and overall stronger metal scene, your list is no match for jeff Fisher's. Instead of recalling obscure bands, you could beat Savatage with Therion, Queensryche with Ayreon, Crimson Glory with Opeth, Manowar with Blind Guardian, Anthrax with Kreator, and Slayer with Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

Venom was a major influence on thrash metal and they were English, but what made thrash metal was the big four, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. Kill em all by Metallica can be seen as one of the first pure thrash albums. I would say that Cliff Burton, James Heitfield and Dave Mustaine are the fathers of thrash metal

No country has a definite metal scene or group, especially the US, UK, Germany, Sweden and Norway. There are soooooooooooooooooo many bands from these countries. Thrash and Death Metal both started in the US. I guess you could call Thrash Metalcore as it started from Hardcore Punk and Metal, and Death is most popular outside the US, but they both started in the US. Metalcore is currently the most popular in the US that is from the US.

This part was more harmonic and melodic instead of ''hard'', which is not pussy in my opinion, just a different style of Metal. Something I love about Metal is the fact that it has so much subgenres to explore.

Because almost all Nu Metal bands just dosen't sound like Heavy Metal in my ears. But everyone has different opinions and if you see it as metal I'll respect that rather than start a stupid argument in the comments.

Because when I think of metal and america in common the first thing that comes in mind is metalcore. I can understand it since well yeah most metalcore bands are from america.
    BTW nothing bets european metal

the Spain part reminded me of Dark Moor, who are from Spain, so spot on! The US part was core, which is sad :( I hate that my country created such an awful disgrace to metal. LOVED the Norway part. Hail Odin \m/

He didn't pick Black Metal for Sweden, he picked Melodic Black/Death Metal like Dissection style, Norway has the Black Metal genre in this video, but still Sweden has some very awesome Black Metal bands. :)

In my opinion, the UK riff look more like metalcore than NWOBHM, i didn't told my fav bands in this commentary =P (for me, my favorites are Infectious Grooves, Lofofora (french band), American Dog and Megadeth ;) )

Metalcore sucks. Simpliest riffs ever. Extremely fast bass drums. And screaming constantly in the microphone. Untalented people who wanna be good at playing metal but are to impatient learn the hard good stuff.

well i'm french and i have to admit France didn't pioneer shit in Metal... I mean, we got Gojira, Trepallium, Gorod, Dagoba or even Trust but we didn't "create" any genre of metal. (though Gorod, Gojira and Trepallium got a style of their own)

actually dude, your wrote a pretty good song. same with 10 genres in 3 minutes. i could care less about genres and geographic locations. get a band together and write a whole album like this.

Scandinavia as a whole the best by far imo, but listening to this made me think Poland sounds like Red Alert and Netherlands has awesome metal music to listen to while strolling through tulip fields.

Metal is pretty much from United Kingdom, not Scandinavia. And the best metal is arguably both from Scandinavia and far East. Millions of metal fans would argue that Japanese one is the best.

Well, that's what I mean. Nu Metal bands like Linkin Park and so on sound to much rap/hip hop to me. The only Nu Metal band I find kickass is Slipknot witch actually has some pretty awesome songs.

I'm only joking, dude. Just playing along to the British stereotype of not liking France. To be honest I've never heard any French Metal before. Any particularly good metal bands from France?

  • @viammortis
    @viammortis 12 лет назад

For me, it's hard to accurately characterize France's metal. They have great bands like Adagio, Maladaptive, and Fairyland, but then there's a band like Gojira that throws the whole scale off. Haha

Canada really helped the tech death scene with bands like Cryptopsy and Gorguts and later on with bands like Beneath the Massacre, Augury and Neuraxis.
But yeah Canada was poorly represented :P

USA gave birth to death and thrash metal (not so certain about the latter, but still, pioneered) and you chose a fucking metalcore breakdown to represent it? Genious, I must say. P.S. I'm not American.
