A: 628. Off the top of my head.
UK - NWOBHM, Iron Maiden
Germany - Power Metal, Helloween
Canada - Thrash Metal, Annihilator
Brazil - Nu/Thrash Metal, Sepultura (Cavalera)
USA - Metalcore, every core band
Poland - Black/Death Metal, Behemoth
Sweden - Melodic Death Metal, At the Gates
Finland - Folk Metal, Ensiferum
Spain - Power/Folk Metal, Mägo de Oz
Italy - Power/Symphonic Metal, Rhapsody
Norway - Black Metal, Mayhem
Netherlands - Symphonic Metal, Epica
I love how this video is all yay and good fun, until the Norwegians come along and bring down the fucking sun...
won't you come
wash away the rain
Love how Norway is just 10 shades darker than the rest of 'em
Poland, where death and black metal love to mingle
It reminds me:
UK - Heavy - Iron Maiden
Germany - Europe style Power/Speed - Helloween
Canada - Technical
Brazil - [little exp]
USA - Metalcore scene
Poland - Psychedelic Progressive - Division by Zero, Riverside
Sweden - Gothenburg
Finland - Viking Pagan (Ensiferum)
Spain - Neoclassical (Dark Moor)
Italy - Doom/Gothic scene - Graveworm, Novembre
Norway - general a Black Metal scene
Netherlands - Melodic/Symphonic - Within Temptation
Brazil - groove metal, Sepultura.
Poland - imho blackened death. Vader. Behemoth
Finland - actually power folk, which Ensiferum is. Esentially folk-metal scene.
Netherlands - actually sounds more like Epica ;)
you got it better
Polish metal isn't psychedelic anything. The piece in the video reminds of typical Polish death metal in the style of Behemoth. About as far away from psychedelic as you can get.
Germany reminded me a lot of Hypocrisy, which isn't a German band :D
metal around the western world. Seriously, eastern country got so many metal bands too
post examples, in all likelihood they've been excluded due to ignorance, not malice
Colin Edmunds chthonic, myrath and maximum the hormone would be some examples
i think ive read it was about countries who have made a contribution to the metal, and have created a unique sound for the metal scene. Im mexican and i know my country doesnt have an actual Major band as Sepultura for brazil.
Metal in the eastern world actually hasnt had that development as in the western countries named in the video (except for Japan with the Visual kei and X-japan or even Australia with Parkway Drive). i do know Metal exist in many eastern countries but the east hasnt got that development due to religious and political beliefs.(e.g. China, Russia, Israel, many muslim countries and so)
not at all, they cant even compare in numbers
you did the brazillian metal, cool
I loved it, but I was kind of crossing my fingers for Japan to show up, maybe something X Japan inspired. Amazing as always though!
Jao Leyon Wutep me too.
Maureen Davidson The thing with Japanese metal is that they take European genres and put Japanese melodies (and sometimes song structures as well) in there, so that's probably why they weren't mentioned (Japanese metal
Jao Leyon Wutep Well, scales are not enough to create new genres though, there's a lot more to it than that..
We could go back endlessly if you wish, but most metal genres today are mainly build around NWBHM, so that's why I say European.
Jao Leyon Wutep Alright :)
lol Annihilator thrash Canada. Nailed it!
Personally I’d have wanted some razor but beggars can’t be choosers.
holy shit im from germany and i like to play like he has shown just for the lolz, i dindnt even knew its like a common style/technique
xD
It sounds similar to "Iron Saviour - Tyranny of Steel"
Finland is the boss!
Finland is the best !!! :D
People hating on the USA are just mad they can't dj0nt.
Polish metal is awesome metal!
US was a little oversimplified, but great job nonetheless! I liked Brazil the best
UK - NWOBHM (Iron Maiden mostly), Germany - Helloween/Power Metal from Hamburg, Canada - Annihilator, Brazil - Sepultura, USA - Lamb of God?, Poland - Behemoth?, Sweden - Melodic Death Metal, Finland - Folk Metal/Kalmah, Spain - Mago de Oz?, Italy - Rhapsody? Fleshgod Apocalypse?, Norway - Black Metal (duh!), Netherlands - ?
Netherlands sounded like the work of Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He's released albums under his name, but also has a load of projects. This sounded like Ayreon/Guilt Machine.
Not entirely sure.
Norway, Black Metal, woo!
during the "italy" part u had to do a ultra-fast-super-epic solo in sweep picking but u are not turilli so...nevermind :)
Where's Japan? Dude, japonese Metal got some cool bands. Maximum The Hormone, X-japan, and much others.
Finnish melodeath is best!
Wintersun ❤
Dude when you hit that Finland riff!!! And the strings in Netherlands I COULD CRY
believe me if u're reading this yourself, there are tons n tons of people in the rat race of speed, features, technique, heaviness and whatnot .. but sense of melody is what separates the real talent and it shows when a Signature is developed in any instrument one plays .. you have a good sense of melody and that matters, in your style and everything .. good work (=
Raz Ben Ari Please, please, please make a tab for this!!
all of those rule! dude you are one bad ass guitarist!!
Ever heard of thrash metal?
Norway!:D
Great vid, but no French a la Gojira?
i like the finnish and german part most...whole video rocks, good job man :)
I still come back to this. Think it's a great representation of regional metal styles!
That tone sounds terrible. Great playing though. Thumbs up, man
This is the most underrated chanel and video ever! Ever since you uploaded this video, I see it at least 5 times a year xD
everyone is busy watching jared dines nowadays.
Was it as epic on the 55th view as on the 33rd? XD
I loved the Finland part!
Netherlands and Norway are awesome but Italy is not so accurate...btw you're great :D
***** Well, in Italy we have a lot of very good prog rock bands...but some good metal bands are:
-Movimento d'Avanguardia Ermetico (Black Metal)
-Furor Gallico (Folk Metal)
-Cripple Bastards (Grindcore)
-Draugr (Folk Metal)
-Janvs (Progressive Black Metal)
-Kanseil (Folk Metal)
-Linea 77 (Nu Metal)
-Skasico (Rap Metal)
-Spite Extreme Wing (Black Metal)
-Folkstone (Folk Metal)

Winter of Sin (black/death)
The Netherland have a great metal scene you should check this list out but these bands are just from the top of my head there are loads more. cheers L.
@hisvictimesty Well it really isn't, the heart is still Scandinavia, but the deepest root is Jimmy Hendrix whom is from the States. Those of the Scands pretty much made it into the more house-hold name of metal, even though yes the UK did help influence that. Also Japanese metal. . . Is more pop rock than metal, I hate Japanese music that isn't orchestrated and isn't from Video Games. J-Metal isn't grand, but metal is big over in Japan.
I'm going to take a shot here:
Intro - Any metal riff
UK - NWOBHM, Iron Maiden-y
Germany - 80's Hamburgesque Power Metal
Canada - Annihilator (it's my country, I know this for sure)
Brazil - Sepultura
USA - Lamb of God, groove metal
Poland - I actually don't know this :(
Sweden - Melodic Death
Finland - Folk Metal
Spain - hmm... Mago de Oz?
Italy - I'm going to go with Rhapsody, cuz that's the only band I know from there.
Norway - black metal obviously
Netherlands - I actually don't know
Metalcore may be only one of a large number of metal types that got their big start in America (Obviously thrash being the biggest one) but what's unique about metalcore as opposed to any of the others is that it's managed to stay pretty much entirely within the scope of American bands, at least when you consider what has and has not broken into the metal mainstream. Thrash has branched out, groove has too, others as well.
Finland: Wintersun, Ensiferum, Turisas, Norther, Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Children of Bodom, Warmen, Sonata Arctica, Altaria, Cain's Offering, Stratovarius, Nightwish, Tarot, Sinergy
Spain: Dark Moor?
Itally:( not a good example to know what Italy has to offer)
Norway: About every 2nd Wave Black Metal Band there is (Emperor, Mayhem, Thorns, Burzum, Darkthrone, Enslaved, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Gorgoroth, Ulver, Satyricon, Taake, Isahn, Arcturus, etc...)
This is a great compilation of all metal of the world
He's straight on the money
These are all the bands he reminded me of in their respectful country
UK: Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath
Germany: Blind Guardian, Edguy, Christian Müenzner, Equilibrium
Canada: Protest The Hero, Unexpect
Brazil: Sepultura, Cavalera Conspiracy
US: TesseracT(mostly from UK)
Poland: (clean) Behemoth (lol)
Sweden: Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, Katatonia, Mastodon, (Old) In Flames, Meshuggah, Vildhjarta
It was obviously based on rhapsody's songs like warrior of ice. Not that the songs are all like that but the long sustained notes are probably the one thing that makes them stand out. Sure, with no chorus, no organ no orchestral grandeur ... that's it.. a couple of long notes.
Compare with warrior of ice for the first 42 seconds
I'm not exactly sure what bands the Canadian and Brazil parts were influenced by, but I like the sound of both riffs. Perhaps Sepultura for the Brazil riff, but I'm not sure. Regardless, the rest sounded pretty accurate, although I would have preferred it if the States were represented a little better.. :(
You know, we got better bands out there, maybe they're just less famous or unkown to the player ( Strana Officina, Novembre, The Foreshadowing, Coram Lethe, Stormlord and Death SS. just to name a few).
Very sad that "rhapsody of fire" is a very well known band associated to italy, and they don't even do metal.
While I agree that all of the riffs were awesome, I have to argue that simplicity does not equal laziness. Mingus said, "Anyone can make the simple complicated. Creativity is making the complicated simple." I have some bias being American, but you can even take that example to represent a band like Gojira, from France.
Although I agree that Europe has more bands and overall stronger metal scene, your list is no match for jeff Fisher's. Instead of recalling obscure bands, you could beat Savatage with Therion, Queensryche with Ayreon, Crimson Glory with Opeth, Manowar with Blind Guardian, Anthrax with Kreator, and Slayer with Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.
Um, I'm pretty sure niteliniN was naming the songs in the video. I did not see any songs from Bolivia, Ecuador or any other country you named. And one must admit that there are not many world famous metal bands from Latin America, at least compared to the countries in the video. Which is a pity, I suppose. :/
Venom was a major influence on thrash metal and they were English, but what made thrash metal was the big four, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. Kill em all by Metallica can be seen as one of the first pure thrash albums. I would say that Cliff Burton, James Heitfield and Dave Mustaine are the fathers of thrash metal
I think you used for models :
UK = Bullet For My Valentine
Germany = Helloween
Canada = Rush
Brazil = Sepultura
USA = Trivium
Poland = Behemoth
Sweden = Amon Amarth
Finland = Nightwish (without symphony)
Spain = ???
Italy = Rhapsody of Fire
Norway = Immortal
Netherlands = Within Temptation
Am I right ? (so sad there's no France :( )
i know right! have you heard of skull fist. there this new band from toronto and they kill! they play heavy metal with a fun a fun speedy thing to it! and they are amazing live. they play on each others shoulders half the time =D and all the bands you mntioned are awesome. you from canada too or are you just jelous of how awesome are music is =D
Rammstein is one band, and it's shit combared to Helloween, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Avantasia, Heavens Gate and Stratovarius, which all are from Germany. And Norway and Sweden's scenes are definite alright? Black metal in Norway, melodic death metal in Sweden.
No country has a definite metal scene or group, especially the US, UK, Germany, Sweden and Norway. There are soooooooooooooooooo many bands from these countries. I do think Germany's metal scene could more properly be represented by Rammstein though, simply because it's the most popular post-Accept.
Thrash and Death Metal both started in the US. I guess you could call Thrash Metalcore as it started from Hardcore Punk and Metal, and Death is most popular outside the US, but they both started in the US. Metalcore is currently the most popular in the US that is from the US.
Are you kidding me? I was expecting Japan too, but they're more punk rock then anything else... and if you're trying to relate what you're saying to the recent works of Dir en grey, then you have an issue. Dir en grey is practically Metal from the United States, which is unfortunate.
Yeah, I guess you're right. I just hope Agalloch put another album out. The only thing that's been put out this year that I really enjoy is Alice in Chains's new album. Megadeth's SuperCollider was awful and totally disappointed me. Other than that, Dream Theater are releasing their new self-titled album this fall. That's something to look forward to right?
Dude, if you've never heard about Loudness, Anthem, Bow Wow, Outrage, Sex Machineguns, Galneryus or Sigh, don't dare you say such a thing about Japanese metal scene! Most of these "homo visualkai or glam rock" that you mentioned, almost no one know it in japan itself, only among weeaboos who know nothing about Japanese metal.
for me personally its the drums that are more exciting for norway
I fucking hate all the generic metalcore and deathcore bands in the US! There is some good ones, but most are just so generic! Atleast we still have good bands like Revocation, The Black Dahlia Nurder, Son of Aurelius and several others!
Not all American bands are shitty Metalcore bands. For example I see that your picture is of an Agalloch album cover. That's a phenomenal band from right here in the states. I do agree that 90% of American bands suck though. It's unfortunate /:
There's no denying that those Scandinavian countries have the best Metal. I'm American and I'll admit it. My favorite riffs in this video were actually Brazil, Canada, UK, and Finland, however. The Finland one was especially accurate.
Megadeth, Machine Head, Five Finger Death Punch, Mastodon, Slipknot WHO I DON'T CARE WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK THEY'RE METAL...Of course there's also metal in places he didn't mention like Iraq and Russia. Acrassicauda, anyone? Ария (Arya)?
UK: Classic Metal
Germany: Power Metal
Canada: Thrash?
Brazil: Prog?
US: Metalcore
Poland: Black Metal
Sweden: Melodeth
Finland: Bodom :P
Spain: Another form of Power
Italy: Neoclassical
Norway: Death Metal
Netherlands: Symphonic Metal
Am I close?
Well, for me it sounds kinda like Behemoth, it's probably the most known polish band everywhere else. There is also a great polish band called Vader, which is different then what You heard in this video, but those guys are worth checking them out.
Funny how some people are commenting how US metal sucks you seem to forget bands like Death,Exodus,Iced Earth and Cynic from their respective genres the metalcore breakdowns suck though i will agree on that.
There are many symphonic Metal bands from Netherlands, but not many who sound like that. I'd say Epica come closest, but there's also Delain, Within Temptation, Imperia... though none of them do really sound like that.
they where best knowed as Hogwarts, they only releases 1 Lp, "Rise from the knees" in metal archives says they are something like
Folk/Symphonic/Melodic Death Metal, their lyrical themes are all about harry potter
UK iron maiden
Germany Helloween
Canada Annihilator
Brasil Sepultura
US some gay emo band
Poland - Vader
Sweden - At the gates
Finland - Ensiferum
Spain - Dark Moor
Italy - Rhapsody
Norway - Darkthrone
Netherlands - Epica
This part was more harmonic and melodic instead of ''hard'', which is not pussy in my opinion, just a different style of Metal. Something I love about Metal is the fact that it has so much subgenres to explore.
Because almost all Nu Metal bands just dosen't sound like Heavy Metal in my ears. But everyone has different opinions and if you see it as metal I'll respect that rather than start a stupid argument in the comments.
Because when I think of metal and america in common the first thing that comes in mind is metalcore. I can understand it since well yeah most metalcore bands are from america.
BTW nothing bets european metal
the Spain part reminded me of Dark Moor, who are from Spain, so spot on! The US part was core, which is sad :( I hate that my country created such an awful disgrace to metal. LOVED the Norway part. Hail Odin \m/
He didn't pick Black Metal for Sweden, he picked Melodic Black/Death Metal like Dissection style, Norway has the Black Metal genre in this video, but still Sweden has some very awesome Black Metal bands. :)
In my opinion, the UK riff look more like metalcore than NWOBHM, i didn't told my fav bands in this commentary =P (for me, my favorites are Infectious Grooves, Lofofora (french band), American Dog and Megadeth ;) )
Metalcore sucks. Simpliest riffs ever. Extremely fast bass drums. And screaming constantly in the microphone. Untalented people who wanna be good at playing metal but are to impatient learn the hard good stuff.
well i'm french and i have to admit France didn't pioneer shit in Metal... I mean, we got Gojira, Trepallium, Gorod, Dagoba or even Trust but we didn't "create" any genre of metal. (though Gorod, Gojira and Trepallium got a style of their own)
i think this guy was too generous with spain. they don't have one single decent metal band.
actually dude, your wrote a pretty good song. same with 10 genres in 3 minutes. i could care less about genres and geographic locations. get a band together and write a whole album like this.
Scandinavia as a whole the best by far imo, but listening to this made me think Poland sounds like Red Alert and Netherlands has awesome metal music to listen to while strolling through tulip fields.
-Pathfinder (Poland)
-Insania (Sweden)
-Elzevir (Russia)
-Dark moor (España)
-Yuhkinen (Japan)
-wintersun (Finland)
-Battelsoul (Canada)
-Pörtness (Switzerlan)
-Equilibrium (Germany)
shall i go on?
Metal is pretty much from United Kingdom, not Scandinavia. And the best metal is arguably both from Scandinavia and far East. Millions of metal fans would argue that Japanese one is the best.
no offense to anyone but spain and italy killed most rock or any modern music.. they just dont know what theyre doing... they trin mixing shit.... and damm finland came out awesome here xD
Well, that's what I mean. Nu Metal bands like Linkin Park and so on sound to much rap/hip hop to me. The only Nu Metal band I find kickass is Slipknot witch actually has some pretty awesome songs.
I'm only joking, dude. Just playing along to the British stereotype of not liking France. To be honest I've never heard any French Metal before. Any particularly good metal bands from France?
For me, it's hard to accurately characterize France's metal. They have great bands like Adagio, Maladaptive, and Fairyland, but then there's a band like Gojira that throws the whole scale off. Haha
Im from canada and I love skull fist. They're really good they sound like old school power/speed metal to me. I live in the US but im canadian (moving back to canada though in about 4 weeks :D)
Canada really helped the tech death scene with bands like Cryptopsy and Gorguts and later on with bands like Beneath the Massacre, Augury and Neuraxis.
But yeah Canada was poorly represented :P
USA gave birth to death and thrash metal (not so certain about the latter, but still, pioneered) and you chose a fucking metalcore breakdown to represent it? Genious, I must say. P.S. I'm not American.
Of course the Big Four i just didn't want to list them because everyone lists them i wanted to give examples of bands from other genres as well like from Death Metal,Power Metal etc
ARIA of course :) and yes haha Poland does sound like C&C "Hell March". Is it in the style of modern Behemoth perhaps?(I do not know their work past ...From the Pagan Vastlands)
Pff... I'm an American who has never stepped foot in Europe - but I could talk to you about Swedish melodeath or German thrash all day. And I don't write shitty lazy breakdown riffs.
I think he was going for a groove metal sound if you ask me.
