- The ship revisits Vulcan, now renamed Ni'Var. In what we think will be a show about the current state of the Vulcan and Romulan people is in actuality all about Michael Burnham.

Your videos are some of the best Star Trek Discovery criticism on the internet.
Based on your superb analysis, this episode feels like one of the biggest tragedies to unfold during present-era Star Trek. It's a slap to face of the Federation's mission, Vulcan culture, and the legend that is Spock's character.
Next episode is even worse. Trust me.
ROFL, the Groundhog Day examples and jokes were on point! Kudos.
Lol, the Groundhog Day reference was great! Nice one!
Hehe, the Groundhog Day stuff was cool.
Oh no!!!
They took another big dump on Spock this episode
I still can't believe that they had the balls to call the episode "Unification III" even though the entire thing wasn't about the vulcans or the romulans but the validation of Burnham as the Space Trek Messiah once again.
Also why did they portray Burnham and her mom as if they always had a close relationship while in reality Burnham only saw her twice in her entire life? And how the hell did she survive the journey through the wormhole without the Iron Man suit?
Because Kurtzman Trek.
Unification was a plot point left dangling, just begging for a series or more episodes dedicated to it... And lo, STD came... And treated Unification like set dressing, so we could focus on Mikey Sue.
Its Unification 3, because Vulcans don't have Wars.. and we had WW2 and WW3.. so keeping up with the Humans. Vulcans just make nice and make up... oh so much make up... those ears.. the pain the pain. Isn't they Clever?
I love the show/tell dichotomy. I think it’s a talent that is missing the most in modern pop culture. Some shows have invented creative ways to “show” while others spend millions on one pivotal scene that seems to be the entire point of an episode. It’s the balance that is amazing. I’ve listened only to some of my favorite shows and I’ve watched only the same shows if either can bring the viewer in that’s great but when both work seamlessly that’s magic.
EXCELLENT REVIEW !! Icould not have explained it better.
How come everyone in the future knows who MB is? Talking her name was paramount to Treason.
Exactly.. I thought she was removed from all the records??..Duh!
@@manthroat Its the ultimate narcissistic projection of the shows creator. They just waved their hand over the inconvenient situational elements and proceeded with the daily twitter storm via the tweet instead of actually writing a script.
Looking forward to your views on episode 8 🤣
P. S. Happy to see you on Midnight's edge!
I also thought it was err, "funny" that Burnham tried for one full year to figure out the reason for the burn and in all that time no one told her that story about the Vulcans thinking they caused it. Considering they also learn about the romulans here for the first time I also find it interesting that again in this year she apparently never ran into a romulan.
Tilly's promotion is Star Trek teaching us that nepotism is ok. I guess that's how STD writers got their jobs and now they simply "write about what they know".
Something I've noticed about STD. It claims to hail having 'firsts' in representation... But, it only gives representation a few minutes before it's told to go back in the corner so the rest of the episode can focus on Mikey Sue.
Member when characters overlapped each others story arcs? STD writers don't.
The first black female starship captain appeared in TNG season 1. Just as a fun fact on the side.
@@georger64 Nope. Madge Sinclair Captain of the Saratoga in Star Trek IV was before that.
One was a movie Captain, the other was a TV Captain if we want to split hairs.
First to answer your question. The moon you see orbits Vulcan's sister planet T'Kuht. The moon is called T'Rukhemai. Now Vulcan and T'Kuht could exist but it would be IMPOSSIBLE for the moon to exist because the two planets would tear it apart. So Vulcan's are correct when they say they have no moon, just as some say our EARTH-MOON configuration could also be considered a Trojan planetary setup. Also within Star Trek Romulus and Remus are Trojan Planets just like home!
“Everybody has their own logic“. Sounds like Vulcan had a postmodern philosopher, maybe his name was Vu‘Kolt?
Script Doctor if your planning on writing a new science function i'll be the first to enlist for vfx shots and ship designs :D

Nail on the head! Discovery isn't about Star Trek. It's about Burnham, a totally unlikeable and utterly contrived character. It has nothing of what attracted people to all preceding series, and what it offers in its place isn't entertaining or inspiring or... anything, really. It's like Gordon Ramsey served up a raw Mullet covered in Vegemite for our incredibly expensive meal, and we should enjoy it (and be bloody grateful) because Gordon Ramsey made it.
Hey, Script Doctor, your description says, "...where the ship resists Vulcan..." I think you mean visits Vulcan...? You're probably thinking how the writers resist making sense, lol. "Different kinds of logic," wtf. Great review of this convoluted show.
That's no moon...it's a space station! The Vulcan Science Council thought it a good idea to built a huge Battlestation in orbit. just in case!
I can't even imagine where this is all going with respect to a season finale or a series finale, if those rumors have any traction. The only thing I can imagine is Mikey waking up in an insane asylum (or maybe prison) at the end of the season, realizing that the last three seasons were nothing but a dream of her own delusions of grandeur. I mean, what else but insanity would make this morass of self-indulgent B.S. make any kind of sense when all is said and done?
So, at what point will Script Officially name these recaps as "Script Doctor, CSI" ... as it'd appear that he's always wading into an unholy, bloody mess and trying to calmly and rationally explain how a crime against sanity (and good writing) occurred? (Also great video as always, Script!)
Saru: *Promotes Tilly to Commander*
I like how this show tries so hard to be progressive and is, at times, anti American Capitalism yet Saru just committed the very thing that Progressivism is against and American Capitalism supports and commits daily...Cronyism...
I made the comment about the the fourth episode "Tell Me Not", that it should have been called, "Show Me Not, Tell Me Alot". That could be said of every episode. When will we see an end to this?
These writers violate the most basic elements of good storytelling a multitude of times in every episode. They show no ability to create anything interesting or original, of their own. The things they would claim to be original are derivative of ideas already presented in Star Trek or of some other modern franchise. They show no ability to coherently hold together an episode without fundamentally contradicting a point of fact that occurred in previously established canon (I know, they don't know and don't care that they don't know it), establish in a previous STD episode or established within the episode.
Yes, previous Star Trek had inconsistencies. Those inconsistencies were not fundamental to premise of the storytelling and certainly not nearly as plentiful as what you see in STD.
I again commend you on your analysis. Really good stuff.
Two things to ask:
1. Do you think this will go beyond a fourth season?
2. I caught you on MEAD with Robert Meyer Burnett. Is there any chance you two could get together and do something? I think you two would be a hit!
Do you think that you can “Help me Rewrite the Entire Sequel Trilogy of the Skywalker Saga in the Star Wars Franchise” Script Doctor?
Making Tilly the acting first officer was a purely creative decision. There is no other logic explanation for that. They needed a reason to keep Mary Wiseman on the show. For some reason they still believe Tilly is a beloved character. But Tilly has "evolved" into an utterly pointless main character, since Adira has taken over her former position as Stemets assistant. Tillys only contribution to the season so far, was just always being there when they needed to reflect their own creative decisions. Nothing would change, if you remove Tilly from the season entirely. Except maybe she was pissed and her husband wouldn't play the even more pointless "Andorian" side character. What a loss...🙄
I mean before that she was also mostly annoying, but at least they gave her a purpose. Like when she precisely, faster than a quantum computer, without relying on any aid, needing no time to think about it, did four dimensional tensor analysis, in order to calculate how she can properly use a dark matter asteriod to save Terralysium. What a Mary Sue. And of course she was there to make a blunder whenever possible. Which in contrast to Mikey Spock, gave her at least a less inhuman appearance.
In fact Tilly is that irrelevant to the show right now, they had to force in scenes centered around Tilly. Like the one, when she's looking at all the badges for herself alone, or when Saru needed to ask the lowest ranking officer on the ship, if he should do his job and get Mikey Spock punished for her repeated disobedience. Tilly on season three is just a waste of space.
*incoming ranting*
Wow. This is the only show that I watch reviews but skip watching the episode prior because I can't stomach it (and I watch Batwoman for the luls) but just by watching this review the whole logic stuff really hurted me to the bone more than anything on STD before, spores and terrorists logic extremists vulcans included.
I have a degree in physics and since I was a kid I always considered the pursue of truth through logic and reason the most sacred things humans have, a vision that was cultivated in me by my love of science AND science fiction stories. I have no doubt this ridiculous stuff about different vulcans having their own logic is based on this idiotic thesis that there are different types of logic that depends on the point of view of a person, that logic is relative, subjective, and a product of culture, that the logic that science follows was "created by the patriarchy, created by white men, created by collonizers" and that "marginalized people need to create their own logic and their own science, Independent of the colonizers' logic and science", which to me is one of the main roots of this cultural cancer that is known as Identity Politics, which is running rampant and destroying every single cultural artifact which holds any kind of value never created.
Yes, that may sound a little hiperbolic but every single day more evidences shows up pointing towards that. People need to wake the frak up and cut the bullshit before we all eat ourselves like mouses inside an overpopulated cage. That is the only way for a true unification.
Idiots... 😠
This show isn't made for Scientist and Engineers.. its made by people (Who don't want to be called Geeks and Nerds) this is Revenge of the Jocks and Revenge of the Socials.. that's why they're so Preachy about how the old Star Trek did everything wrong.. and they're doing it right.. and for the first time.. because.. Old people, Geeks and Nerds don't count.
@@joey_after_midnight Indeed. Parasites condemned to survive by leeching on the corpse of those whom they hate. Maybe that's why there are so much crying on their stories.
So what exactly are they 'Discovering'? That's what the show has in it's title and yet, none of that actually happens.
Another great and frank review of a show that is increasingly barely coherent.
Great review. Terrible show. It sucks to hear that things are only getting worse.
Oh for god sake. TMP directors cut went out of its way in correcting the moon continuity mistake. And Discovery screws this up again.
The one good thing about Alex Burnham, and Mikey Kurtzman being attached to this show.. is the writing is so bad.. no one in the Future will ever believe it.
Just like every Terminator after part 2, will go down in history as not part of the main canon. Time will decide these trash reboots fates.
I wonder why they never bring up Sybok in this hug & cry fest of a show?
Thanks for another great critical video of this extraordinarily poorly and hideously written show. It grows more and more evident that the writing team behind STD were clearly intent on transforming the 'Star Trek' brand into something substantially different to anything prior to 2005. The writers have evidently proven they show absolutely no interest in paying respect or basic literary acknowledgement to stories told by previous writers. Your review made me think of a humous sci-fi a analogy that Star Trek is being 'terraformed' . Keep up the critical Star Trek attacks. That is until you get tired of subjecting your mind to dulling for 48 minutes. Thanks for doing it so we don't have to.
This was by far the most boring Star Trek epsiode.
