It is fitting that one of the first violinists to be featured on this channel is Gitlis. They are obviously different in many regards, but I have always thought of Gitlis and Shafran as each others counterparts for their respective instruments. Would have been really cool to have heard them playing something like this or Brahms Double Concerto together.

I had the luck to be very close to Ivry during some years and he had in great appreciation Shafran and yes, in some way they are close

@@Shafrancollector Wow, lucky you! Gitlis seemed like a gem of a person. Did he say anything in particular about Shafran?

I just listened to the Brahms Double Concerto with Gitlis/Gendron/ Tabachnik. I had the exact same thought - such a pity Gitlis and Shafran never collaborated. It would’ve been a wild experience of two true equals. Gitlis and Shafran - they belong in the same category together for their own instruments.

Hi Shafrancollector: I was at the Mondsee-Festival this year and vividly remember this concert. Do you have by any chance videos of the other concerts? Gitlis-Leschenko played Introduction and Polonaise brilliante by Chopin and this was the first and only time that I heard this piece in a way where the cellist had not to force and fight to be heard, Leschenko playing with delicacy and at the same time utmost clarity and power. And then also unforgettable the Franck Sonata: Gitlis reinvented this piece on the spot, utterly convincing. If you know if there are and where to find these videos it would be marvellous.
