Good question Before you start the car and after the test drive. Make sure no one has deleted the drive history before your drive and after you drive make sure all the inspection monitors are set.

After resetting the codes it will come up red on some things like EGR, CAT or OS2 etc but that means you have to drive your car enough to get a run a test on those parts, driving a little bit wont work, if you check in the live scan or freeze frame you will see under the parts that came up with a red cross that they say INC, this means you need to drive it more
thanks for the video! I reset my code (P0431) a couple of days ago and the drive cycle for CAT and AIR hasn't been completed yet (after 120mls!). The red LED came on (like you showed), but in my manual it says the yellow LED should (which is obviously wrong).

You missed the entire dialog as he was explaining it…..they will clear after driving it enough, but if you go to buy a used car and u see those red “x” that means they tried to clear the codes right before selling it to you, which could be a red flag

At his search bar just type in your car problem or symptom and try to find a video on it that he has covered in the past. Excellent auto mechanical help channel. way gill , yes if your state requires a emissions test with the obd2 port connected. I'm not sure what state your in, for example currently in California as of today you want to have all monitors ready ( evap monitor is the only exception currently) .

I don't know about other regions but I'm run across this a few times and I just try another obd2 reader it bam it starts to work or scan another car with this.

Mr Bill Purcell, yes it will appear like the scantool is not able to reset the codes if they are permanent codes such a open loop or closed loop fault. What 2 codes are present after you attempt to clear the codes?

If i use the scanner on checking a used car, should it be done with the car on only, or should i drive it a few miles and then plug the scanner?

Not possible. If all codes are cleared but the I/M isn’t ready that means the owner cleared the codes
You can read erased codes. When they’re erased they’re gone.

Try a different scan tool. Don't risk failing again as it shows on carfax and can lower your vehicles value.
i find that there has many other obd2 scanner on amazon,it is more expensive ,i bought the AM3011 ,it is more cheaper ,works great on my husband car.

Try a different scan tool..I've seem this.happen with lots of OBD2 readers.

why do you need to register it, this is super simple reader, I have never updated it.
