Unexpected - and rapid - laughter yoga benefits (spoiler alert: bye bye Monkey Mind!)

    'Who knew that laughing could calm the noisiest of monkey minds?! I have been practicing yoga, meditation, mindfulness and breath work for many years now but still my monkey mind often races away swinging from tree to tree before I notice and am able to reel it back.
    So imagine my surprise when, having taken part in some laughter yoga exercises, I was guided to sit in stillness only to find that my monkey mind was quiet! QUIET! No rapid chatter. No racing thoughts. Just stillness. When the occasional thought slowly arrived in my mind I was able to notice it and gently bring it back into this new-found stillness.
    I was astonished.
    It was not only the quietening of the mind that amazed me but also how expansive my breath had become in such a short space of time. As I mentioned, I have practiced breath work for a couple of years now and my breath pattern has significantly changed in that time. However, it wasn’t until Joe’s weekend workshop was I finally able to breathe into my back body! Hurrah!
    For me, what differentiates the practice of laughter yoga from any other wellness practice is the embodiment of slow purposeful movements combined with the use of the breath to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. If that wasn’t enough, the laughter itself releases dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins. I mean, what is not to love!'
