  • How usable will a decade-old Android smartphone be in 2024? let's answer this question with the Xperia Z Ultra, Sony's flagship Android Smartphone from 2013, running Android Lollipop.
    We will see what works, and what does not, app compatibility and general usability of the phone, and also look at some of the features not there on modern Android flagships, like the SD card slot and the headphone jack.

      Agreed, 800$ was a LOT back then. But what a time it was, every phone was unique in terms of features and design.

      I love Xperia too! Sadly Sony discontinued them in my country, or else would love to get my hands on new ones.

    Recently got a z5 premium and it's honestly usable for the most part. Biggest issues are probably battery life and slow internet

      It was one of the best phones back in the day! but that 4k screen is a power hog!

    It's been a while... 2013 was 11 years ago LOL :D
    The smartphones have gone a long way since then, I'm so glad that pretty much even entry phones are snappy and fast, are supported for longer and generally offer more - lagging and heating during app updates is not that common anymore. CPUs went a long way too.

      Time flies!! and I agree, entry level smartphones have become really good, Samsung's M series is a great example, Android itself is more optimized.

    Good. But I wouldn't give up my s24 Ultra for this

      Ofcourse not, no one in their right mind would use a decade old phone for a brand new one.

    Those old Android versions were really crappy compared to today's Android. This phone would probably perform better with a custom rom that's got Android 9 or up because they use less resources and are more optimized

    • @TechGuyCharlie
      @TechGuyCharlie  Месяц назад +2

      Agreed! I was really tempted to flash a custom rom on this phone, but I want to keep this phone as it is, its more of a collectors item now.
      I had Google Play Services crash once while updating the apps (happened off camera, so could not catch it), but after that everything just worked, which is surprising because of how badly optimized Android used to be.

      @@TechGuyCharlie Had the same experience. It takes it sweet time to update.

      Impossible in India because of import restrictions and website bans, but outside you can grab one easily on eBay or Aliexpress, which is super cheap too.
