- A trip to RAF Fairford to Catch a pair of United States Air Force supersonic Rockwell B-1 Lancer Bombers was a real treat. I've been fortunate to catch some pretty Loud aircraft over the years but these where off the scale!.
This pair are in RAF Fairford along with another pair to assist in NATO air policing and various Air Shielding Missions in the baltic region. As part of this mission they took part in a fly over along with a Finnish Air Force F18 hornet at Turku Air show in Finland and also another fly past in Estonia. Any youtube footage of these fly pasts would be great to see if you have a link to place in the comments.
Enjoy the take off and recovery,,, Volume up!!

In 1993 I was driving across western Utah on US 50, when out of nowhere a B-1 about 400 feet off the ground crossed the highway about 1 mile ahead of me. At a high rate of speed. About the time my mind grasped what I was seeing, a second one crossed a short distance behind the first. Needless to say, that was the highlight of my long trip from California back home that year. 😲
Totally envy
That must of been awesome👌
@@DafyddPhillips First there was disbelief, then awesome quickly followed. Even from a mile away, they looked huge, and seeing something that size going that fast, that close to the ground was hard for my brain to process. I was used to seeing light planes bopping along at 125 mph at that height, but not something the size of a freakin' airliner going 400 mph!
And then they were gone.
@@rinardman Same thing happened to me in Missouri, but it was flying deep in the valley of two huge mountains. I was driving down one of them, and the shock of it flying that fast, really fast between two mountains gripped me, next the impossible maneuvering to avoid hitting either mountain. 4 years later, I got a job working with them and all other military aircraft at Edwards Air Force base in flight testing and still can't believe how well they can maneuver at such high speeds.
I was driving past my local airport in northern Australia. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the silhouette of two about to takeoff (holding on the taxiway).
I witnessed two taking off with full afterburner and because the end of the runway has an area where you can view them up close I got to see them about 50m off the ground with full afterburner.
My ear drums nearly exploded and the ground shook. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience granted they won't be back at my local airport for a long time.
It's scary how underrated the performance of that thing is.
The sight and sound of those engines on afterburner is one of the most amazing experiences in aviation! I especially like the close shot of it rocking back and forth bit on the suspension when they spool up to takeoff power. Just like when the old Space Shuttle would rock on the pad, just after the engines came up, and just before it jumped off the pad.
Even after universal and everlasting peace comes to planet Earth then the Americans are never allowed to retire this plane. Ever. So many sublime engineering masterpieces in the 🇺🇸 air-wing inventory 👍🗽🌞😎

Simply awesome 👌 sounds like they're tearing a hole in the sky to fly through. Thankyou for sharing.
Thanks for watching Stephen. They are so Great to see in the flesh 👍
“… a hole in the fabric of reality …” was what came to mind for me 😊
Now that is one beautiful jet. Living in LB Ca years past this baby would come in for service and air shows. One time a day after the airshow we all knew when it would take off and headed ( rode our bicycles since I lived 5 blocks from the airport) to the end of the runway. When it flew over our heads the unbelievable crackle from the engines rocked your insides. Then the pilot flew around and did a fly by rocking his wings pulled up and hit the afterburner. That was so loud and powerful I had a new home address when I left the airport.😅 Superb video again, however I wish all your viewers could experience the roar of the "Bone" Happy Father's Day!
That must of been fun! Hope your ears are ok? 🤠
Thanks for watching
Absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome, thanks for watching
Take it from me, standing near to the runway at Fairford with a B-1B takeoff, is a nerve shattering experience. Let alone waiting for it to go, with the sound of those engines is an awesome experience!
Indeed it is. ✈️🚀
Everything about this plane is so cool and good looking.
Bad to the B-ONE!
Stunning jets, awesome footage. What a treat! Those landings were so smooth 😎
Thanks Ben, great that the day went to plan 🎓👍
🤩👍 First Flight December 23, 1974 and still the most beautiful Bomber! 😁
Agreed 👍
Totally agree

Your military aviation photography is outstanding - thanks for sharing!
Many thanks, appreciated.
I saw some finnish politician tweeting about some B1's flying through their airspace the other day. So that was these 2? Sweet.
These where them. 👍
I had the opportunity to stand at the end of a runway when a BONE took off. It passed just a few hundred feet over me. It was incredibly loud - probably the loudest noise I've ever heard. And it was AWESOME!
Fantastic close-ups Dafydd, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching Steve, appreciated.
LOUD and PROUD 🇺🇸 🛩️
INCREDIBLE footage, Dafydd. I thought you were actually on the tarmac 🧐😆
Beautiful videography of this plane and I’m so grateful that it’s JET NOISE, not music we hear in these videos ✅
Thanks Tim. Happy you enjoyed it. 👍
I miss my RAF years for sure, I was pre- B1, mine were the 81st TFW Bentwaters/Woodbridge F4s ruled way back then. Thanks for the awesome videos.
Must of been great times David. Thanks for watching.
Telecompression made it look like Bone 2 was going to climb right up Bone 1’s nozzles! More great footage, Daf, thank you! 🤙🏼🌹
Thank you.
YEAH BOI. been waiting for this upload. Thank you sir. Killer shots man.
Thanks John.
Watch these aircraft take off is an awesome sight...and ear splitting! Seen one at RIAT some years ago go past low and fast with wings swept back, what an aircraft!
It’s surprising they don’t have to re tarmac the runway after each takeoff. 🤯
Ahh.. It's sad the BONE never saw it's full potential of it's B-1R proposal.
I guess acting as a airborne missile silo is an okay alternative. 24 LRASMs is one hell of a payload..
I had the chance to see a B-1 combat demo at an airshow, it's one insane machine. Full afterburn aileron roll was incredible.
The landing shots are just so powerful. It really does look pretty monstrous landing like it’s there to do business that won’t be pleasant. Superb filming 👍
Trying to stay sain and say it's a killing machine
Thanks Paul, it has an intimidating presence but fortunately I’m not the enemy.
I can hear this from my house 3 miles away. You can see RAF Fairford in the distance from the end of my road.
100, 000 pounds with afterburners. Badass.
Awesome footage mate! It was great meeting you yesterday
Thank you, likewise 👍
Nice to see some B1s knowing that they're to be phased out once the B21 rolls out.
About 15 years ago, I was standing outside my church which was in the Dale City, Virginia area. A pair of B-1s in close formation flew about 2,000 feet over my head going north towards Washington DC, probably towards Joint Base Andrews. What a magnificent sight and sound that was!
I'm extremely fortunate to have witnessed this very thing. I was in my early teens and our cadet squadron selected a handful of us go to Cold Lake RCAF base. The timing worked that we were there for Maple Flag. We got to sit about 200m from the runway when they sent over 100 aircraft of various types out for an exercise. Among them were two of these extraordinarily gorgeous bombers. They took off in full burner, one after the other about a minute apart. It was one of the most moving and awe-inspiring experiences of my life. All-in-all, we saw those 100+ aircraft go out from the same runway in about an hour, many of the fighters taking off in formation.
That must of been incredible, would love to see something on that scale ✈️✈️👍
@Dafydd Phillips it's something I will remember until my last breath. B-1s, CF-18s, Tornados, F-15s, F-16s, Jaguars (pretty sure), among others!
It was spectacular!
Thank you so much for all of your work and amazing content!
@@newman977 appreciate you watching ✈️👍
Wonderful video, but unfortunately there is no way to adequately capture how loud these beasts are, it feels like your insides are shaking when they take off anywhere close to you.
My first duty station was Dyess afb. Sleeping on base the first few months was tough when they had night sorties!
I remember the first time I went to RIAT at Fairford and the B1 took off for its demo, I said to Rachel "boy these don't just hurt your ears when they take off, they hurt your chest."
That is super incredible and awesome for these B-1B Lancer 🤩😎👍
Absolutely cracking footage Daf 👍👌 the B1 is still one heck of a good looking beast 😎
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Andy, they’re loud 🤠
@@DafyddPhillips yup that they are Daf, I've invested in some ear defenders for my next encounter with them 🙉👍😂
😂 enjoy!
Awesome video !!!!!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Just glad there on our side!!!!👍👍
Same here👍
Saw them both here in Finland yesterday.
Excellent footage as usual 👏
Many thanks!
How cool are those! Thanks Dafyyd!
Glad you like them! Thanks for
Watching
What a beautiful aircraft!
Quite the bird, excellent camera work!. 3:14 I think that's called a stabilator? Cool using it to slow down... Cheers Dafydd, appreciate the share. ✌🇦🇺
I have watched many of these takeoff on video and a few times in person. I recently noticed that the upper wingroot section closes once in full burner right before takeoff. Not sure what this system is for and if its manual by aircrew or automatic. You can see it on the first aircraft. Great video. Thanks.
Fantastic stuff 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you! Cheers!
🇦🇺 Fantastic footage of the two AC landing in sequence!!!
Thank you.
Wowzers...!...aftr-brners-r-us...!...loved it thanks for sharing Dafydd...!...
Thanks for watching Fred 👍
Absolutely superb sound
❤❤❤ THIS IS KEN HOLLEY. THE BONE IS A WORK OF ART, IT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL JET IN THE WORLD. JUST LIKE MY FELICIA 💓💯 🌹
Stunning photography! Thanks.
Many thanks!
❤❤❤ AMAZING ENGINEERING
These have flown over my house recently in cambridgeshire
Don’t know what I prefer, either flying them or just watching fly away. That’s a hard choice for me.
Fantastic shooting with great sound!
Many thanks
Brilliant videos Dave 😮
Many thanks Martha Xxxx
Do you think that the hot weather has caused them to require more power on takeoff or was the increased sound just due to the wind direction.
They route over where I live in East Northants and they have a couple of KC 135's from Mildenhall rendezvous with them over the North Sea.
Quite possible Jeremy. Sometimes they are louder than others, yesterday set the new record for me. 😂
Thanks for watching
Nice work!!
Thanks Douglas
The B-1 always reminds me of the days when former president Jimmy Carter cancelled the program and then former president Ronald Reagan reinstated it. I think it's safe to say President Reagan made the wiser decision. 40+ years later, the aircraft is still sleek, powerful and effective.
Can't imagine what it must have been like being a JTAC reading off 9-lines to a BONE, then seeing the results
Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Are these actually louder than the old Vulcans? Those suckers were earth-shaking!
With after burner, the B-1B is louder than the Vulcan, and I heard both during my years in SAC.
With then wings in take-off / landing configuration, the Lancer looks kinda like a turkey, but when they come back, she transforms into one of the most sleek and beautiful looking birds ever ❤
It is
Beautifully
Awesome and Technical eDeadjly😮
Magnificent, thank you
Thanks for Watching.
What awesome aircraft.
Well, that lifted the Starlings
Excellent 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow.
Không quân Mỹ quá mạnh mẽ và vững chắc. Không có đối thủ sánh kịp...🇺🇸👍
Truly awesome 👌
Very nice.
Many thanks
Awesome!
Thanks!
Máy bay ném bom chiến lược hạng nặng B1 của không quân Mỹ rất mạnh mẽ tối tân 🇺🇸
Just, Awesome just like the RAFs, retired Vulcan bombers Awesome if only they could both take off tegether WOW,
That’s would of been an awesome sight
Two of these flew over Plymouth the other evening. I wonder if they were the same ones.
Possible these two, there are four there in total.
Thanks for watching
@@DafyddPhillips 🤲
Thank you, @Dafydd Phillips. I have not seen eighty six one O five since me and my lead had her back in February of 1999 for PDM so we could install the new mods. So, the entire world could see her do really big things on a Good Friday next Monday and in between. We both got that rare letter of "Tenacity" from our commander the "Full Bird" on April 15. Thanks 🤝Dafydd Phillips, I enjoyed seeing Her.💪( ͡👁 ͜ʖ ͡👁)👍"We Still Live"!
Happy you enjoyed,
Thanks for watching !
👍
That’s LOUD!
Yet they’re very quiet while taxiing!
Serious question, is a B-1 ever allowed to takeoff without afterburner? If so, how long would its takeoff roll be? 😳
I’ve only ever seen it take off with afterburner. Maybe someone on here will know ?? 🎓
@@DafyddPhillips I always hear them take off and I'm three miles away from Fairford. If they take off over Faringdon, which isn't the norm ,then they usually still have the afterburner on.
I see Peter Griffin's truck is queued up to take-off next.
Looks like 2nd to takeoff got into some wake.
Wow!!
👍😁
4:25 I know the lens foreshortens, but I was holding my breath as the first one made that right 90° with the second on the floor behind 😮

Hello from Ukraine
Какая красивая летающая махина! Один хвост чего стоит! Да и крылья тоже! Если б ещё бомбами не кидался,цены ему бы не было!!😊
Sadly didn't do a fly past over Estonia
Thanks for the update, I was unable to find any evidence of it although told they would be heading there
I just love seeing a few hundred million of my tax dollars at work!!!🇺🇸😅🔥
And to think…
As we may have marveled at live video footage of the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk…😎
So our great grandchildren will marvel at what we created in our time!!🔥💀😈
Woowww!
Great footage!
Can a B1 fly through the Mach Loop?
Hasn’t done but be nice to think so 🤞😁👍
Epic!!
Thank you.
ruclips.net/video/bIhmQipJgzY/видео.html. Link for the fly past at Turku Air Show!
Many thanks 👌
Красава!
Thank you.
Merica!!
Dyess ?
Yes 🇺🇸👍
Meno carico cherosene meno peso e meno scarico che sensi a pieno poi scaricarlo?
Why is this the loudest take off yet?
Because it was very loud where I was standing. I’ve seen a few.
Hope you enjoyed the upload.
Impressive stuff. Unfortunately, like the IRS, the US Marines and jury duty it’s sad that stuff like this is necessary. But it is. I long for the day none of it is needed. Not in my lifetime.
By the look of it, this bird should drop the next A-Bomb!
