    They’re good quality, unfortunately modern Puma needs to get with the times. That old German steel is budget steel by today’s standards. They’re still nice collector knives.

    As I recall now the Puma brand is now under the Frost brand umbrella. I only hope they don’t fall victim to the same fate as other brands have once Frost acquires them and tries to cheapen them into the kind of crap that shows up on their Cutlery Corner shows.

    • @CuttingEdgetools
      @CuttingEdgetools  3 месяца назад

      I agree. That would be a bummer. The best Puma quality is around 1985’ on back. The quality on this knife is awesome, but I probably wouldn’t have bought it new at full price. Thanks for sharing

    I think they have been making knives since 1769. I own several of them. All of mine are folding knives and they are older, newest is 1984 and the oldest is 1968. All but one is stainless and I love them. The ones to buy, if you like stainless like I do, this is what is on the blade, new stainless super keen cutting steel. I've been carrying a 1978 puma duke since 1992. I'm a hunter and in my opinion, Puma is the best. The reason that I love the stainless it will hold a edge and when it finally gets dull, I can have them shaving hair off of my arm in about 10 minutes using my Lansky diamond sharpener. My 68 is a Plainsman, same knife as the gamewarden. Also I have 2 gamewardens, deer hunter and other older pumas. You have nice ones too.

    • @CuttingEdgetools
      @CuttingEdgetools  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for sharing. Appreciate the info on that stainless 👍 I will keep an eye out . After little research on this little drop point. Apparently the Blade is manufactured in Solingen plant the handles are assembled in China! This model sells new for $100 w/o tax. I’ll carry this one hunting this year. You’re right about good stainless. Using Diamond sharpener is the ticket to maintain them. They do hold good edge

      @@CuttingEdgetools You're welcome Sir. Your 2 game wardens that you showed are stainless, which I am sure that you already know that. I just love the Pumas, especially the older ones. I have some cases and have had Bucks and many different brands but I got rid of them except a few Cases. Like I said in my opinion, Puma Knives are the best, that's why I love them.

    The SGB line is Pumas economy line that uses non-hardness tested blades that are shipped to China and assembled there.(I actually think they are seconds)%. .not the same quality as actual Puma branded German made and assembled line....you could get the same knife today for about $70 on sale...

I that I was going to get arrested but was told to go put it in my car. I replied that I walked there and asked him if I could just give it to the bartender until I was ready to leave and he said alright. When he left I asked the bartender to give it back to me. I have one of the bowies. Honestly I don't understand why they made the grip wider than it is high. For me the ergonomics are terrible; wish it was more like the mule deer hunter. It was a gift from a dear friend before he passed. Its a beautiful knife to look at and has great sentimental value, but I just can't get past the way it feels in the hand.

    • @CuttingEdgetools
      @CuttingEdgetools  3 месяца назад

      The stag on those Puma Bowies were all different because of the individual variations of each piece. Some could be more blocky than others maybe? The Stag scales on mine are a little thick, but not too bad. Not noticeable to me. It would be interesting back in the day to compare a dozen out of the box and choose the one you like. I’m 6’2” with medium hands. . But for sure the uniformity of Cut Bone scales have that going for them. Thanks for watching and sharing

      Yes sir. Puma’ Werk’ very old cutlery. I remember seeing the White Hunters’ in early-mid 1970’s -they were pricey at the time compared to Buck’s,Case and other Quality F-Blades so most folks didn’t buy them! Puma knives are not abundant in the States. Not sure if they were imported before WW-2. Kinda doubt it. They made German military knives for WW-1 & WW-2. Old friend’s Dad was WW-2 and brought home a captured WW-2 Puma fighting knife. It was cool. Saw one sell on eBay for $600 recently
