Don't know what I like better. the REAL review of actual knife use or the narration. Keep up the good work! I personally don't like horizontal carry because of my toothpick waist either. But I'm working on it.
One thing to know with Scout / small of the back carry is that is you ever fall on your back or are thown to your back, you can suffer a catastrophic spinal injury. As a retired Tac medic, I always taught that no gear should be directly over the spine for this reason.
That's a good tip. Generally when we scout carry the knife ends up more to one side than the other just because of belt loop placement, but spinal injury is definitely a good danger to keep in mind when gearing up.
Thank you for pointing out that legitimate risk. I recently suggested that caution on a different knife channel, and I got a bunch of folks calling me an idiot.
@@TrilobitesRTasty It's not a legitimate risk. Show me multiple incidents of this happening with a knife in scout carry. You're more likely to crack your head open and get a TBI than to have a catastrophic spine injury.

I love that I found this video. I've read this exact article Le 2 twice in the last 6 years or so and have thought about scout edc for quite awhile. Esee don't do it for me, because I don't want a knife I have to oil to preserve, but I was damn. Lose to pulling the trigger on a gaurdian here recently.
We've probably recommended the Guardian 3 more than anything in this video (or the article). It's weird. The Izula 2 is one of the few designs ESEE doesn't make a stainless steel version of yet. It's a shame. We'd love to see it in S35VN.
I’m going to read the full article. I’m old enough to enjoy reading. It is my preferred way of getting information. You don’t waste your time as this video pointed me to your article. Thank you!

I'm surprised there isn't a Tkell knife in this video as in my opinion he makes amazing knives with wonderful horizontal carry sheaths. I love the Nickel Boron finish on his knives. If you haven't already check out Tkell knives!
I carry a CKRT Minimalist Wharncliffe up side down making it super fast and easy too grab by the braid. I also carry a pocket knife and a multi tool that will do whatever the minimalist won’t do, their just slower to get out.
I have carried this way for over 30yrs. Everybody I have seen make the same mistake and so quite carrying scout. The knife must be above the beltline 1 to 2 inches. You can do this with a TekLok belt clip or make your own out of 16 gauge sheet metal. I have done both. It simply works. Mount the sheath to the inside so it is up close to your back. I have been searched several times while carrying a 4" blade with a standard T-Shirt and they didn't notice the knife. This works for me.
LOL, great video (even though you'd rather write) ...an informative, and entertaining, review of 6 knives in 7 minutes instead of 1 knife in 30 minutes! I have the Guardian 3.2 which is an improved version of the 3
@@nothingbutknives2286 Yup. No complaints with the kydex upgrade. In fact they fit perfectly. I just love the profile of the knife itself. You should try my Esee 3, you can scout, hang, or put it on your backpack it's my favorite fixed to date. I also have the Esee 5 for batoning and bigger work, that I hang from the right side belt.
I’m a huge fan of horizontal carry for fixed blades. Although I don’t buy knives or sheaths as I make my own. I actually prefer horizontal scout carry for large field knives for a couple reasons. 1. Puts the knife in an easily accessible, out of the way spot. 2. In the field, the strong side position is taken up by a pistol, and having the knife weak side carry just isn’t as easy to get at. Great video 👍🏻
@@nothingbutknives2286 to me, weak side vertical carry is, for the most part one of the most inconvenient field carry methods out there. Much like with a D/A automatic knife, (which is absolutely the most useful pocket knife out there) the scout carry is awesome because you can be holding something with your weak hand, be able to get your blade out, do the cutting, and be able to put it back ONE HANDED. What is the best Actual Belt to wear with most EDC horizontal knife systems??. I just bought my first Fixed Blade - it’s a Kizer Smolt . I picked it because it looked small and Dependable for Horizontal EDC .

My favorite scout carry EDC knives are my Bradford G3 Sheepsfoot and my Esee 3. Both with Kydex sheaths with soft loops. I'm a bigger guy, so the Esee 3 doesnt bother me.
