My school chechen friend Dalihan Payzulaeva (Далихан Пайзулаева) went back with her family from Odesa, Ukraine to Grozny. my friends and I lost touch with her. I am a Chechen, and most things that goes on in Chechnya especially oppression against women come from our backwards culture and traditions, a few years back Islam was not even practiced in that region as it is today(and it’s still not practiced fully). Chechnya being Sunni is bound to be influenced by theological concepts from a more conservative perspective. It’s the same in most countries in the region. I used to question Islam, the religion i was born into, cause of my family. They'd force me to be religious and I'd follow happily but as i started to get influenced by the Non Muslims on the internet, i started to see it all upsidedown, and at one point, became an atheist. I am sorry to see how the Human Rights of women and men are violated every day in Chechnya. Chechens adopted Islam not long ago, then they were defeated by the Tsarist Russians. Their country is very isolated and during the Communist years many Chechens were forced in to exile (Siberia) and many were killed. During the Communist times they had almost no access to moderate Islamic leaders and learning. During the wars of independence with Russia almost all Chechnya was destroyed. Then Putin made the deal with the current leader's father that Chechens can have autonomy but within Russia. The Chechens have been brutalized over and over in he last 500 years and they have experienced a lot of violence. After the independence, Saudis and UAE poured money and funded Salafi / Wahabi Islam teachers and the so they were brainwashed in to the restrict and violent interpretation of the so called religion of peace. I am very proud of these brave women who are coming forward and sharing their stories. In my opinion, Chechnya needs massive political and religious reforms for becoming a secular state to allow human beings exercising their natural rights. But with the current corrupt mafia like state, the people of Chechnya will have a huge struggle ahead of them but freedom is achievable.

I'm a muslim from Uzbekistan. Those watching this please do not blame my religion for what happened in Chechnya. In our religious book Quran, we are never taught to beat women or treat them violently. Instead, the book asks us to respect women and beating them is considered as a sin. When it comes to having multiple wives, it is possible but not recommended. Even if a man gets married to 2-3 wives beacuse of understandable reasons, one has to treat all of his wives equally and this is almost impossible so majority of men in our society do not even think about it. Whatever bad happens in countries like Chechnya, Afganistan or Iran, it's all because of the new traditions created by people there, I think Islam is the only religion that teaches to respect every living creature fairly.

Whenever you want to judge the morality of a group or doctrine, remember to always check how said group/doctrine treats the members who decide to leave/abandon said doctrine. So yeah the blame in the republic of Chechnya is not religion but the men who worship their forefathers and their “honor”

Chechnya was always like this and if Russia was trying to strictly impose its laws in Chechnya then we’d have another war.. and frankly speaking, if Chechnya was a separate republic and had a different leader, it would probably be even more religious and worse for women. I am sorry to see how the Human Rights of women and men are violated every day in Chechnya. Chechens adopted Islam not long ago, then they were defeated by the Tsarist Russians. Their country is very isolated and during the Communist years many Chechens were forced in to exile (Siberia) and many were killed. During the Communist times they had almost no access to moderate Islamic leaders and learning. During the wars of independence with Russia almost all Chechnya was destroyed. Then Putin made the deal with the current leader's father that Chechens can have autonomy but within Russia. The Chechens have been brutalized over and over in he last 500 years and they have experienced a lot of violence. After the independence, Saudis and UAE poured money and funded Salafi / Wahabi Islam teachers and the so they were brainwashed in to the restrict and violent interpretation of the so called religion of peace. I am very proud of these brave women who are coming forward and sharing their stories. In my opinion, Chechnya needs massive political and religious reforms for becoming a secular state to allow human beings exercising their natural rights. But with the current corrupt mafia like state, the people of Chechnya will have a huge struggle ahead of them but freedom is achievable.

Very typical when (some part) chechens try to deny ethnic chechens by calling them : "they are only chechen speaking peoples but not real chechens", "they are not ethnicaly chechen", "they are ethnicaly russians, armenians, tatars"..... "they were adopted by ethnic chechens" etc. All these typical negations are known. You know clearly and very well that this is ENFORCED and IMPOSED adat alongside with Islam. You know that . You can't freely quite Islam or say I don't follow adat . Because this would mean ostrasation(if you understand the word).Today Islam is imposed so is adat. Keep denying but the majority of the surrounding people are aware of the situation.

I'm a muslim from Uzbekistan. Those watching this please do not blame my religion for what happened in Chechnya. In our religious book Quran, we are never taught to beat women or treat them violently. Instead, the book asks us to respect women and beating them is considered as a sin. When it comes to having multiple wives, it is possible but not recommended. Even if a man gets married to 2-3 wives beacuse of understandable reasons, one has to treat all of his wives equally and this is almost impossible so majority of men in our society do not even think about it. Whatever bad happens in countries like Chechnya, Afganistan or Iran, it's all because of the new traditions created by people there, I think Islam is the only religion that teaches to respect every living creature fairly.

Whenever you want to judge the morality of a group or doctrine, remember to always check how said group/doctrine treats the members who decide to leave/abandon said doctrine.
