    After reading all the comments I Googled vintage Chesterfield chairs. Though the color is not my "cup of tea" it's right on the money. The color is oxblood, not red. I can picture the chair in a library with a fireplace, silver tray with crystal decanters & glasses. Just like the old black & white movies. 🎥🎞📽. Beautiful job.

    • @221b-Maker-Street
      @221b-Maker-Street 7 месяцев назад

      To some extent I agree, although a _genuine_ Oxblood Chesterfield doesn't have such heavy-handed slathering of faux black patina.
      The colour shift should be *subtle,* not spraying black stripes on a red chair - more a deeper shade of Oxblood, emphasising the deep button work and mimicking the organic gradual build up of patina over decades from the naturally-occurring oils in our skin. The thing about quality antique furniture is that it never _tries too hard_ - like a stylish person, it's just effortlessly elegant. My (possibly unpopular!) opinion is that faux patina laid on with a trowel just reeks of cheap tackiness.

  • @TheDagonl0ver82

    That is literally how a Chesterfield chair SHOULD look, if you buy one brand new it's gonna have that real dark color and very sparse red (or whichever color you get) undertone. The person who had it before had worn away all of the darker color to it's red base, regardless of people complaining and saying "it looked better before" yall need to understand that they are craftsmen doing their job EXACTLY the way that they should.
    You want a bright red ass chair, then go to literally any furniture store in the world and you'll find one there, but don't tell a master craftsman that they did their job wrong.

    To everybody mad about the result: The black pigment looks overwhelming, but it will fade to show more of the red over time and last longer. You get a gorgeous goldilocks period in the middle instead of it being straight downhill. Think of it like cutting your hair slightly shorter than you actually want it so that you can wait longer before getting it cut again.

If they wanted an antique two tone finish on their chair, the company is going to do that. Because it’s not your chair, it’s not the company’s chair, it’s the customer’s. This is exactly how a leather Chesterfield should look when new. The red colour you see before is the worn patina that accumulates as a result of years and years of use.

    • @y.s2470
      @y.s2470 3 года назад +2

      What I don’t get about this is how could the black have worn down so evenly all over the chair?Wouldn’t the sides and back still have some of the original colouring? At the beginning the chair had an even red colour all over, which makes me doubt it was worn down from black to red.

    • @grimplays1825
      @grimplays1825 3 года назад

      @@y.s2470 The back does have some darker coloring if you pay a little closer attention when they apply the tear filler you can kinda tell. It probably is evenly covered in patina cause of the conditions of the house or where ever it was stored. Kinda like an old car in a barn the whole paint job can lighten or darken depending on lighting conditions, moisture, and dust. So that's probably why it's so even.

    What was used for a filler? I have a leather chair that has some scratches and want to fill. I have dyed a leather sofa using DIY paint watered down like a wash. It was like a red dye. It turned out beautiful.

    the black was suitable but only for the buttons. the cherry red chair with darkened buttons, i loved that.the lines just destroyed the chair and it was worse than before cleaning

      I had the exact same thought as you. People also say that the guy only painted over it and didn't restore it, which is objectively not true. It may not be everyone's perfect looking chair, which is fine ofc, but you don't have to be rude about it.

    Excellent job on the cleaning, conditioning and repairing. Tradition or not, the black is not attractive. Sometimes it's best to update/modernize antiques. The red chair was dreamy..

    When you get your own chair you do whatever you like with it
