What are “ natural soap flakes” my Grandmother used to make soap using lye. I don’t think it would be good for leather as it eats the crap out of your skin.
You should never use lye in leather cleaning chemicals Lye aka - Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) is also known as Lye, Caustic Soda So as you can imagine it’s not any good on leather
Best method is fogging or put a few bowls of bicarbonate of soda under then item abs cover in plastic fully this can absorb the smell into the soda in the bowls Never place side into the leather

Alcohol and ammonium dry out the leather so avoid if poss
